ALDUB Music of Love: Playing Out Loud

[Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] The ALDUB Music of Love episode opens with the Kalye’s Angels sitting on a bench. A man plays guitar nearby. They sang an old song entitled “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (May You Remember). Yes, the same soundtrack used by one of ABS-CBN’s longest running drama anthologies of the same title. A song that listeners often forget to be sung as a duet with lines sung by the man and the woman respectively. Later, they shifted to the song “Magpakailanman” (Forever). It was the song used in the GMA drama anthology of the same title and a direct competitor of “Maalaala Mo Kaya”.

Lola Nidora was then asked by Divina at the ALDUB Music of Love episode if her suitors sung any song to her. “Lola, magaling po ba mag-gitara mga manliligaw nyo noon?” (Granny, do your suitors play the guitar well?) Lola Nidora said yes. She ended up singing a sample of a native Bicolano song that was once sung to her. Obviously they’ve been old enough to know if some songs sound a little similar to contemporary tunes. It resulted in a default mashup of “Diana” and “Baby”. Once it’s Donya Tinidora’s turn to share which song did her suitors sing to her, she gave a little hint. “Ang kinanta sa ‘kin yung pan-disco talaga. Santa Clara.” (They sang to me the “disco” tunes. Like Santa Clara.)

Bossing Vic then verified if it’s the same song that starts with “Ang sabi ng iba” (Other people said). Donya Tinidora confirmed it at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. She then started singing a sample. “Ang sabi ng iba. Maganda raw ako. Ang sabi ko naman. Hindi ko ‘to gusto.” (Other people said. That I am beautiful. But I said. I didn’t want this.) It’s only the chorus whose lyrics stay the same. “Santa Clarang pinong-pino. Kami po ay bigyan nyo. Ng asawa, labingtatlo. Na ang gusto walang reklamo.” (Very refined Saint Clare. Please grant us. 13 spouses. [Preferably] Those who don’t complain.)

The rest of the lyrics are interchangeable depending on how the singer(s) would like to tweak the lyrics. In short, a perfect OPM song for improv performances. Hence Allan K found ways to tweak this song at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ang sabi ng iba. Parang tao raw ako. Ang sabi ko naman. Baka totoong tao. Kasi nagsasalita. Pero ang mga totoong tao. Ito palang mga nasa tabi ko.” (Other people said. I look human. But I said. Maybe I am really human. Because I talk. But the real humans. Are these men beside me.)

Alden was seen at the other monitor practicing the ukulele. Allan K revealed who was teaching Alden at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Tinuturuan ni Pat.” (Pat is teaching him.) He was one of the crew that the Kalye’s Angels immediately recognized. Lola Nidora then asked how his lessons have been doing. Alden politely admitted. “Medyo mahirap po, lola.” (It’s a little hard, granny.)

Divina herself asked Alden. “Kaya mo pa ba, Alden?” (Can you still hang on?) Alden’s resilience then showed in his reply. “Walang ayawan. Kahit kailan, di kita aayawan.” (No giving up. I will never give up on you ever.) He then tried to play some tunes. Lola Nidora wasn’t so impressed at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Yan lang? Yan lang ang naituro sa yo ng very big mong tutor?” (That’s it? That’s the only thing taught by your very big tutor?)

Alden tried to play “Thinking Out Loud”. Donya Tinidora wasn’t so convinced either. “Parang nagli-lipsynch ka, Alden. Di sumasayad ang kamay mo.” (It’s like you’re lip-synching. Your hand is not strumming.) Alden’s hand is strumming. But the sound is not loud enough for the grannies to hear at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Medyo di pa po gamay, lola.” (I haven’t mastered it yet, granny.) Lola Nidora shared a sensible tip for Alden to remember. “Parang patay na yung kuko mo sa hinlalaki.” ([It should be] As if your thumbnail is dead.)

ALDUB Music of Love

Alden then revealed that he has another teacher at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. It’s Baste that helps him play the keyboard. He would point out if Alden is not following certain plays. Since Baste is not heard well by the grannies. Alden would relay some things that Baste said at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Mali raw po.” (He said that I did it wrong.) Donya Tinidora’s sarcasm wasn’t so harsh though. “Lahat ng natutunan mo, mali.” (Everything that you learned is wrong.)

Baste then told him to play at least the chorus. Alden then played the chorus part of “Locked Away” by R City featuring Adam Levine. “If I got locked away. And we lost it all today. Tell me honestly. Would you still love me the same?” Baste was pleased with what he heard. “Perfect!” Donya Tinidora found Baste’s comment at the ALDUB Music of Love a little too gratuitous. “Pano naging perfect yun?” (How could that be perfect?)

Lola Nidora then remembered their Sugod Bahay duties at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. She reminded Divina. “Iwan muna natin si Alden at yung malalaki niyang tutor.” (Let’s leave Alden and his very big tutors for the meantime.) Donya Tidora remembered to leave a motivational tip for Alden. “Hijo, good luck!” Lola Nidora left some advice too. “Pag pagod na, iyak mo lang.” (If you’re tired, just cry it out.)

ALDUB Music of Love

Alden took the opportunity to send one more message to Divina before they go to their Sugod Bahay errand at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Sana presyo na lang ako.” (I wish I’m just a price tag.) Divina then asked why. Alden replied. “Para matawag mo akong MAHAL.” (So that you can call me “MAHAL”.) [The Tagalog word “MAHAL” has 2 translations in English depending on usage. “MAHAL” that means “expensive”. And “MAHAL” that means “love”. That’s when “MAHAL” becomes a term of endearment.]

Divina then dished out a pickup line of her own. “Mahal, este, Alden, super bass ka ba?” (Are you a super bass?) Alden thought he heard something pleasant at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ano yun? Ano yun? Ano yung sabi mo?” (What? What? What did you say?) Divina repeated what she said. “Alden.” Alden insisted that Divina said something else. “Hindi. Naguumpisa sa M?” (No. It starts with the letter M.) Divina played it coy. “MAlden?” Anyway, Alden asked why. Divina replied. “Kasi you make my heartbeat running away.” Lola Nidora didn’t get the Nicki Minaj reference though.

As Divina and the Kalye’s Angels waited for Bossing Vic to pick the next winner. Alden tried playing a few notes from John Legend’s “All of Me” on the keyboard. Baste just looked on as Alden tapped the keys at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. He listened with the rest of the folks looking at him. If ever he played it wrong, he has enough room for improvement.

While Lola Nidora and the rest of the De Explorer entourage walked to their next Sugod Bahay winner. Boss Joey composed another potential Tough Hits’ ditty on the fly. He then started singing while playing the ukulele at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “May isang babae nagu-ukulele. At ang gamit niya, kanyang kilikili. Nang matapos na ang tugtog ng bastos na ale. Ang ginamit niya ay pabebe.” (There was a young lady playing ukulele. And she used her armpit. When the rude lady is done with playing her instrument. She used the “pabebe”.)

The grannies were almost done with their Sugod Bahay errand at the ALDUB Music of Love episode when they checked Alden’s practice. Divina herself asked Alden. Alden was halfway frustrated in his answer. “Eto na nga. Dami dami ko nang inaaral.” (Here I go. I’ve been studying so many of them.) Donya Tinidora was expecting Alden to quit at this point in the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ayawan na.” Alden had a decent alibi though. “Wala ngang melody eh. Gusto ko kasi yung tinutugtog ko, perfect.” (I can’t come up with any melody. I want the tunes that I play to be perfect.)

Divina had to remind him to take it easy. “Isa isa lang kasi.” (Do it one by one.) Alden appreciated the reminder. “Pero alam mo kung ano ang perfect sa kin? Yung tibok ng puso mo.” (But you know what’s perfect for me? It’s your heartbeat.) Divina’s heart fluttered again if her facial expressions at the ALDUB Music of Love episode would be used as basis.

Alden’s optimism hasn’t died though. “Don’t worry. Kagaya ng nasabi ko na dati, marami na tayong napagdaanan.” (Like what I have said before, we have endured so much now.) Divina liked it. “’Yan ang fighting spirit.” (That’s the fighting spirit.) That’s when Divina dished out some pickup line again. “Alden, marunong ka bang magbilang?” (Do you know how to count?) Alden said yes. Divina had threw her followup question at this point in the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Anong kasunod ng I LOVE YOU ONE?” (What comes after I LOVE YOU ONE?) Alden answered. “E di I LOVE YOU TWO.” It took awhile for Alden to realize what he said.

Alden liked Divina’s line. “May baon ka pala.” (You came prepared.) Divina found it helpful for Alden. “Siempre para ganahan ka lalo.” (Of course so that you would be motivated more.) Alden then test-played the instruments simultaneously from ukulele to the keyboard. He used keys from Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”. Mostly intros. It made Donya Tinidora comment. “INTROVOYZ ka ba?” (Are you one of the INTROVOYZ?) [INTROVOYZ is actually a name of a Philippine alternative band. In time, it’s definition evolved into a slang term for musical instrument enthusiasts whose repertoire is limited to the intro notes of a song. So far, Alden is one of the INTROVOYZ. His improvement has yet to be seen though. Otherwise, he’d be stuck in INTROVOYZ mode.]

Divina liked the tunes that Alden learned playing on the instruments. “Okay naman eh. Kaya mo naman eh.” (It sounds okay. You can do it.) Lola Nidora appreciated the improvement as of the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ang pagmamahal, may kaakibat na sakripisyo. Kung wala ka nito, mahina ang pundasyon.” (Love comes with sacrifice. If you don’t have this, the foundation will be weak.)

Alden took the opportunity to tell Divina and her grannies some events in store for the next day. “Di muna ako magpa-practice bukad. Natatandaan mo kung ano bukas?” (I won’t practice for the meantime tomorrow. Do you remember what occasion is tomorrow?) Divina’s eyes lit up. “Oo nga pala. Bukas na po yung January 21.” (Oh yes. Tomorrow is January 21.) Donya Tinidora found Divina a little too excited at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. Lola Nidora had a slight guess about that Thursday. “No Practice Day.” Alden then reminded everyone about the ALDUB 27th Weeksary.

Divina then shared what she discussed with Alden at their ALDUB 6th Monthsary date. “Kasi po may napag-usapan po kami ni Alden nung may date kami last week. Balak po namin kayo isama.” (We discussed something of Alden during our date. We would like to include you.) Lola Nidora remembered something that made her say no. “Nung huli mo kaming sinama, di mo kami pinakain. Sabi mo manonood lang tayo ng mga bibi tapos binagsak tayo.” (The last time you tagged us along, you didn’t feed us. You said that we would just watch some swans only for you to drop us [literally].)

At the ALDUB Music of Love episode. Lola Nidora then remembered that she was referring to the Log Jam ride at the Enchanted Kingdom. It happened at the ALDUB Rendezvous episode. But Lola Nidora wasn’t shown on the camera because Dora was there. Just when Alden was about to reveal what is in store for the ALDUB 27th Weeksary, the truck horn sounded off. The ALDUB Music of Love episode ended on a cliffhanger again.

Could the ALDUB 27th Weeksary episode be any unique? Tune in to Eat Bulaga. Monday to Saturday at noontime. Like Eat Bulaga’s official Facebook page to catch the ALDUB Music of Love episode replay.

Outside the KalyeSerye universe, learning to play instruments is seen as a career improvement on Alden’s part. With newly-discovered singers marketing themselves as musicians too. Alden should invest in improving himself even more. What else then can be expected of him after the ALDUB Music of Love episode then? The episode recaps are mostly found here on our website. ALDUB First Condition: Tune Up

[ALDUB First Condition Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] The ALDUB First Condition episode opened with a big band. Donya Tidora was playing the trumpet. Donya Tinidora was twirling the baton like a majorette beside Donya Tidora. The Cuando Cuando Cuando played the rest of the instruments while dancing. In front of the marching band was Lola Nidora. She didn’t know whether to be the other majorette or be the orchestra conductor by default.

ALDUB First Condition

Donya Tidora is very happy with the theme at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Bongga! Puro musical instruments ang peg natin today.” (Awesome! We’re all into musical instruments today.) Lola Nidora then wondered what are all of these instruments for again. “Mangangaroling ba tayo?” (Are we caroling?) Donya Tinidora reminded Lola Nidora the reason behind the intro. “Hindi. Yan yung dahil sa mga naisip ni Maine. Nakakaloka yang apo mo. May pa-condition pang nalalaman.” (No. This is because of Maine’s idea. You’re grand-child is nuts. She gives conditions now.)

Upon closer look, the Cuando Cuando Cuando’s instruments were pots and pans. And they’re wearing their barongs again. Bossing Vic openly wondered about their presence at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Buhay pa ba ang mga yan?” (Are they still alive?) Donya Tinidora can’t give a straight answer. “Kami nga rin, Bossing, nagtataka. Pero iba ang amoy ha? Amoy formalin.” (Bossing, we wonder about it too. But they smelled different. They smelled like formalin.) Donya Tidora can get by with the smell. “At least hindi amoy patay.” (At least they don’t smell like corpses.)

Donya Tidora also found this to be helpful to Alden’s personal improvement. “On a positive note, may bagong matututunan si Alden.” (Alden will learn something new.) Donya Tinidora can also see Divina’s reason behind the condition. “Puede silang mag-jamming ni Yaya. Alam mo naman si Yaya. Tumugtog yan. Nag-drum na yan.” (They of nanny can jam together. You know nanny. She has played drums before.) Donya Tinidora was referring to Maine Mendoza’s performance at the EB Dabarkads Pa More episode and the wildcard battle she had against Alden Richards himself.

ALDUB First Condition

As expected in the ALDUB First Condition episode. Lola Nidora was skeptical. “Eh ang tanong. Matuto kaya si Alden?” (The question is this. Will Alden learn?) Donya Tidora believed that Alden can. “Naku, ate. Sana naman kakayanin niya yun. Maganda gagawin niyang inspiration ang apo nating si Divina.” (Please, elder sister. I hope he would endure it. It would be great for him to be inspired of Divina.) Donya Tidora can’t help but be overly excited again at the ALDUB First Condition episode. Lola Nidora partly hoped about it too. “Sana nga. Sana matuto.” (I hope so. I hope he learns.)

Donya Tinidora thought that the easiest instrument for Alden would be the trumpet. It can be played without the instrument itself. That’s when Bossing Vic himsel started playing the invisible trumpet several times at the ALDUB First Condition episode. Donya Tinidora stood up several times to prepare for the dance. Only for Bossing Vic to stop the trumpeting in time. Soon Donya Tinidora’s knees betrayed her. “Ano ba yan? Ipapaopera ko na yung isang tuhod ko.” (Oh dear! I have to get my knee operated on.) Allan K thought what injury it could be. “Torn ACL?”

Later, an SUV horn was then heard on the background. It was followed by Divna a.k.a. YayaDUB enterting the ALDUB First Condition episode to the tune of Owl City’s “Good Time”. She then paid her respects to the grannies. Lola Nidora thought of the music-accompanied entrances as a good thing. “Maganda. Dapat naimbento na yung ganyan. Pag may dumarating, sa halip na doorbell, tutugtog na lang.” (I think it’s a great idea to have such a tool invented. Whenever somebody arrives, instead of a doorbell, you’d hear music booming.)

ALDUB First Condition

Lola Nidora can see the happiness in Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB. “Divina, ang saya-saya mo ano?” (Divina, you look excited, aren’t you?) Divina replied. “Lola, excited lang po ako na malaman kung ano ang instrumentong tutugtugin ni Alden.” (Granny, I am just excited to know which instrument will Alden play.) Donya Tinidora didn’t like it that Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB is starting to act like Lola Nidora at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Ano ka ba naman, Yaya? Tinalo mo pa tong si ate. Me pa-challenge-challenge ka din. Ano ngayon ang pagaaralan ni Alden na mga instrumento? Alam mo namang walang alam na tugtugin yun. Ang alam nun, kumanta.” (What are you thinking, nanny? You’re getting worse than elder sister. You demand challenges now. What instrument will Alden play now? You know that he can’t play any. What he does good is singing.) Donya Tidora even mentioned Alden’s recent achievement. “Platinum nga yun eh.” (He just received a platinum award for his album.) Donya Tinidora corrected her. “Double platinum.”

Divina justified her condition demanded from Alden. “Eh, Lola, kasi naman po, kung gusto niyang makuha yung OO ko talaga, magtityaga siyang mag-aral.” (But, granny, if he really wanted to capture my YES, he would be diligent enough to learn.) Donya Tidora asked Divina at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Kapag natugtog na niya, ooo ka na?” (If he learned how to play, will you say yes?) Only Lola Nidora is pleased. “Divina, may nalalaman ka pang musical instruments ha? Ako nga pinatakbo ko lang sa EDSA. Tapos na agad. ” (Now you know some musical instruments too, huh? All I had to ask of him was to run at EDSA. Done.)

ALDUB First Condition
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Boss Joey had a little speculation at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Pagkatapos ng isang instrument, another instrument. Pagdating ng third condition, another instrument. Tapos papapuestuhin niya sa EDSA si Alden” (After learning one instrument, [Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB would ask Alden to learn] another instrument. Come the third condition, another instrument. Then she would put Alden along EDSA [to play beside the blind musicians begging for alms].) Donya Tinidora somewhat agreed on Boss Joey’s speculation at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Ganun din. EDSA pa rin ang bagsakan.” (Same thing. He ends up at EDSA.)

Donya Tidora then tested if Lola Nidora still remembered the things that she made Alden do to see Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB. Lola Nidora still remembers them. “Di ba? Pinasisid ko siya sa swimming pool. Maganda nakaligo pa siya.” (Isn’t it? I made him dive to the swimming pool [at the ALDUB MaiDen Heaven episode]. He even got refreshed with that.) Boss Joey had to ask Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB why this test. “Bakit yun ang pinasubok ni Yaya kay Alden?” (Why did you pick that challenge for Alden?) Divina stuck to her reason at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Para po masubok ang pasensya niya sa pagaaral ng instrumento. Napakahirap po nun.” (So that his patience will be tested. It’s very hard.)

Donya Tinidora then had to ask Divina’s point of view about learning how to play. “Nagawa mo na yun. Ibig sabihin puedeng maubos ang pasensiya mo.” (You have done it before. Meaning your patience can run out.) Divina said yes. Donya Tinidora asked again at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Sa tingin mo mahihirapan siya?” (You think he will have difficulty in this?) Divina thought of it as a possibility. Lola Nidora thought Alden should start with the basics. “Dapat mapag-aralan ni Alden yung mag-DO RE MI.” (Alden should learn DO RE MI first.)

ALDUB First Condition
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Since Lola Nidora mentioned basic notes at the ALDUB First Condition episode. Boss Joey then asked. “Itanong mo nga kay Tidora kung magaling siya sa nota.” (Will you ask Tidora if she’s good with notes.) Donya Tinidora asked Donya Tidora for a singing sample. Donya Tidora then said. “Woo! Magaling ako sa nota kasi choir ako.” (I’m good with notes since I’m with the choir.) She then sung an excerpt from Regine Velasquez’s cover of Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”

Alden Richards then appeared on the other monitor. When Divina asked him which instruments had he been trying to learn. Alden showed the tambourine, the maracas and the keyboard. Baste sat on the keyboard as his “instructor”. Since Divina has not mentioned any particular instrument as of the ALDUB First Condition episode. Alden tried learning as many as possible. “Ang dami kong pagpipilian. Di ko pa kasi alam ang gamay ko eh.” (I have so many to choose from. I don’t know yet which instrument works for me.)

Divina asked Alden. “Wala bang tambuli?” (Don’t you have a water buffalo horn there?) She saw the bongo drum and the guitar close to Alden’s den. Alden mentioned that he is expecting some help later at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Mamaya, darating yung mga dabarkads kasi full support daw sila.” (Later the dabarkads will come over for the full support.)

ALDUB First Condition
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Alden liked Divina’s hairstyle at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Kamusta naman yang pigtails mo?” (So how are your pigtails?) Divina used a 90’s reference to credit her look. “Judy Abbott. Hindi mo ba nagustuhan?” (Don’t you like it?) Alden liked it. “Maganda. Bagay sa iyo.” (Beautiful. Looks good on you.) Divina thought of something else. “Ako. Mas bagay ako sa yo.” (I look good with you.) Donya Tinidora had to interject in the sweetness. “Yun naman pala eh. Ba’t pinapahirapan mo pa?” (So there. Why are you making it hard for him?)

Alden then changed the topic “May tanong ako. Susi ka ba?” (I have a question. Are you a KEY?) Divina asked why. Alden asked again. “Puede ba kitang i-KEYS?” (May I KEYS you?) Lola Nidora heard Alden. So Alden had to backtrack here. “Lola, joke lang po.” (Granny, just kidding.) Lola Nidora’s facial expression at the ALDUB First Condition changed upon hearing “Joke lang po”.

Divina got a little worried upon seeing too many instruments. Alden might not choose easily in this point at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Kahit marami naman akong pagpilian, alam ko naman ang gusto ko kapag nakita ko na.” (Even if I have a lot of choices. I know what I want once I see it.) Alden switched to DUBsmash mode by using Ronnie Liang’s “Ngiti”. Divina replied by DUBsmashing Yeng Constantino’s “Chinito”. It was a cute DUBsmash exchange at the ALDUB First Condition episode.

ALDUB First Condition
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Alden then tested his memory. Donya Tinidora suggested that he play. “Happy birthday muna. Madali yan.” (Try playing happy birthday first. It’s easy.) Donya Tidora has a different suggestion at the ALDUB First Condition episode complete with key guide. “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. 1 1 5 5 6 6 5.” Divina recognized the keys that Donya Tidora mentioned. “Sa cellphone ata yun eh.” (They sound like cellphone keys.)

Bossing Vic Sotto had other ideas though. “Banatan mo ng isang Beethoven diyan. Yung Flight of the Bumblebee.” (Hit it with some Beethoven. [Or] Flight of the Bumblebee.) He ended up playing some notes from the intro “Love is All That Matters”. It was in tune as heard on the ALDUB First Condition episode.

Alden wasn’t giving any excuses that much. “Nagaaral pa po ako, lola, eh. Hinahanap ko pa po kung ano ang mas kaya kong gawin.” (I’m learning, granny. I’m still looking for what I really wanted to do.) Lola Nidora knew how Alden survived harsher conditions. “Kaya mo yan, Alden. Dapat sisiw na lang yang condition sa ‘yo ni Yaya.” (You can do it, Alden. Nanny’s condition should be chicken feed by now for you.)

ALDUB First Condition
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Divina’s moral support at the ALDUB First Condition was more forthcoming. “Isipin mo na lang na kapag nagawa mo na, sasagutin na kita.” (Just think that once you have done it, I will answer you.) Alden replied to Divina’s support. “Never ko pang nagawa. Pero para sa ‘yo, pipilitin ko. Kakayanin ko para sa ‘yo.” (I have never done this. But for you, I would push it. I would endure it for you.)

Lola Nidora felt weak. “Parang pinanghihinaan ako tuwing iniisip ko na si Yaya, magkakanobyo na.” (I feel weak every time I think that nanny is now having a boyfriend.) Donya Tinidora agitated Lola Nidora’s neuroses further at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Mas nerbyusin ka kapag si Yaya, magkakanobya na.” (Be nervous if nanny ended up having a girlfriend.) While Alden is thinking over which instrument to focus on, another DUBsmash exchange ensued. The playlist included Daniel Padilla’s “Nasa Yo Na Ang Lahat” (You Have Everything). The grannies then went to their Sugod Bahay errand to leave Alden to think about his choice.

The Sugod Bahay errand at the ALDUB First Condition episode served as an opportunity for soundtrip. Donya Tidora even played the guitar alternately with the winner’s son. She played “Banal Na Aso, Santong Kabayo” (Holy Dog, Saintly Horse) by Yano. They then let the grannies play the guitar after the Sugod Bahay errand for the remainder of the ALDUB First Condition episode.

ALDUB First Condition

Alden was then shown learning the keyboard according to Baste’s instructions. He later introduced the rest of the “instructors”. “Ms. Pauleen Luna. Ms. Pia Guanio. Ms. Ruby Rodriguez.” Each of them carried an instrument to help Alden learn at the ALDUB First Condition episode. They all agreed on using chords from Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” for the guitar and ukulele practice sessions. The other song used for the sessions was Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours”

Lola Nidora tried to be nice. But she had to be honest to Alden. “Alam mo, Alden, mukhang magkakaproblema ka diyan. Kay Marvic ka magpaturo. Balita ko magaling siya maggitara.” (You know what, Alden? I think you’d get into problems there. Ask Marvic [a.k.a. Bossing Vic Sotto] to teach you. I was told that he is great at playing the guitar.)

Bossing Vic was hesitant to teach Alden at the ALDUB First Condition episode. “Lola, mga classic ang mga alam ko. Mga Schubert, mga Chekhovsky.” (Granny, the tunes I know are the classics. Like Schubert and Chekhovsky.) Being the obedient young man that he is. Alden then approached the KalyeSerye commentary panel to personally ask Bossing Vic.

ALDUB First Condition

Bossing Vic checked his own memory once he gets handed his own guitar to play. Allan K let Alden sit beside Bossing Vic to copy his strumming at the ALDUB First Condition episode. Bossing Vic then remembered one of the songs of his time – Asin’s “Dukha” (Poor). “Ako ay isang anak mahirap. Lagi na lang akong nagsusumikap. Grade 1 lang ang inabot ko. No read no write pa ko. Paano na ngayon ang buhay ko?” (I am a poor man’s son. I always strive. I only finished Grade 1. I can’t read nor write. What will happen to my life?)

Boss Joey remembered this song too. It was one of the songs that the TVJ parodied in their Tough Hits’ compilation. And he still remembered the lyrics being one of the lyricists. [The lyrics that were used at the ALDUB First Condition were slightly paraphrased by now.] “Ako ay isang anak mayaman. Ako ay hindi nagsusumikap. Anim lahat ang kotse ko. Anim lahat ng bahay ko. Anim na buwan na lang ang buhay ko.” (I am rich man’s son. I don’t strive. I have 6 cars. I have 6 houses. I have 6 months left to live.)

ALDUB First Condition

Allan K then eventually joined in. He found it easy to come up with lyrics on the spot. “Ako ay isang anak ng unggoy. Lagi na lang sa puno lumalaboy. Saging lang ang kinain ko. Akala pa nila, tao ako. Kinain ko pati na ang buto.” (I am a monkey’s son. I always hang out by the tree. I only ate a banana. I got mistaken for a human being. I ate even the seeds.) Alden tried to reveal what he planned to sing once he has learned how to play. Too bad, the truck horn honked off. The ALDUB First Condition episode ended before Alden could pick a song.

How good can Alden learn the songs in time? Tune in to Eat Bulaga. Monday to Saturday at noontime. Like Eat Bulaga’s official Facebook page to catch the ALDUB First Condition episode.

ALDUB First Condition episode showed the potential for the improv approach to be given a musical spin. You’ve got lyricists like Boss Joey de Leon and improv veterans like Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola. And you can only imagine how many more songs can they parody. Alden and Maine can definitely absorb that kind of talent in no time. The succeeding episode recaps will then reveal how Ms. Jenny Ferre and the rest of the Eat Bulaga creative committee can capitalize on this. So follow us on our social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter while you can. We’d be expecting you.

ALDUB Serendipity: The First Condition

[ALDUB Serendipity Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] The ALDUB Serendipity episode opens with Donya Tidora sweeping. Donya Tinidora was atop a small table attaching the curtains. Lou Bega’s “Mambo No. 5” then played. But she can’t dance that much. “Dahan dahan lang ang sayaw. Umuuga ito.” (I have to dance carefully. This [narrow table] is shaky.) Donya Tidora wasn’t forgiving of the dirt she swept though. “Marami bang katipunero dito at ang daming punit na sedula?” (Are there Katipuneros in this house that tore their residence certificates here?)

ALDUB Serendipity

Lola Nidora descended the staircase seeing her sisters cleaning at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Anong meron at may general cleaning? May fiesta ba? Busy’ng busy kayo.” (Whaddup with the general cleaning? Is there a feast? You’re so busy.) Donya Tinidora replied. “Baka mamaya kasi. Mapadalas ang bisita mo rito.” (You might end up with a visitor as often as you expected.) Lola Nidora asked who could it be. Donya Tinidora had to state the obvious. “Sino pa? E di si Alden.” (Who else? Alden, of course.)

[Whether the house they are cleaning at the ALDUB Serendipity episode is “the same apartment” they found at the ALDUB Bagong Simula episode or not is left to the discretion of the audience.] Lola Nidora then told Donya Tinidora. “Wala namang nasambit sa ‘kin na pupunta siya.” (He didn’t tell me that he’d come over.) Donya Tinidora’s sarcasm attacked anew. “Pag sinagot na siya ni Yaya, di lang bisita. Baka dito pa tumira yan.” (Once nanny answers yes, not only will there be visits. He might end up living here.)

Lola Nidora’s paranoia strikes again. “Anong sasagutin? Hindi puedeng mangyari yan.” (What answer? That cannot happen.) Donya Tidora reminded her of her exaggerated reaction again. Lola Nidora then remembered Divina’s condition that has yet to be revealed at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Di ba tinanong siya ni Alden kung ano kelangang gawin?” (Didn’t Alden ask her what he needs to do?) Donya Tinidora didn’t feel like taking it longer. “Go. Oo agad. Ganun.” (Just say yes immediately. Easy.)

ALDUB Serendipity

As much as Lola Nidora’s neurosis is getting the better of her, she knew that she had to take it easy. “Di puede yun. Hayaan natin ang mga bata. Nagtitiwala ako sa decision niya. May tiwala ako sa kanya.” (That cannot be. Let the kids be. I trust in her decision. I trust her.) That’s when everyone remembered Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB. As soon as they started asking for her. Divina entered the scene and paid respects to the grannies at the ALDUB Serendipity episode.

Donya Tinidora felt like Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB is starting to learn the wrong lessons from Lola Nidora. “Puro condition. Luma na yan. Sagot na agad. Gumagaya ka dito sa lola mo, puro condition.” (Always with a condition. That’s outdated stuff. Answer yes quickly. You’re imitating your granny, always with a condition.) Lola Nidora interrupted Donya Tinidora at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Alam nyo, may dahilan ako noon. Kung wala yun, hindi natin malalaman ang kayang gawin ni Alden para sa kanya. Hayaan nyo si Divina sa kanyang paraan.” (I have reasons then. Without them, we will never know what Alden can do for her. Let Divina be with her way.)

Divina disagreed with Donya Tinidora’s assumption. “Ayaw ko lang naman po siyang madaliin. Saka ayaw ko naman po siyang pahirapan gaya ng pag-igib, ng pagtakbo sa EDSA, ng paglangoy sa swimming pool.” (I just don’t want to rush him. And I don’t want to make it hard for him like fetching water, running along EDSA [Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue], swimming by the pool.)

ALDUB Serendipity

Divina almost enumerated the slave-driving tasks that Lola Nidora told Alden to do. Lola Nidora mentioned what Divina forgot. “E di banggitin nyo na rin yung plywood.” (Include the plywood.) Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora agreed about Divina not making it that hard for Alden at the ALDUB Serendipity episode.

Alden then appeared with a DUBSmash track at the other monitor. It led to a DUBsmash exchange that included new tracks. An effort to be contemporary at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. [Let’s face it. There aren’t that many good songs as of late. So it’s quite a futile effort to be very new and current.] Since the DUBsmash exchange was brought back, so was the clipboard conversations. Lola Nidora had to remind them to use their microphones at the ALDUB Serendipity episode since writing took more time than expected.

Alden emphasized that he’s serious as shown on the clipboard exchanges. Donya Tinidora quipped. “Seryoso pala. Ba’t di kayo magpa-ICU?” (So it’s serious. Why not take it to the intensive care unit?) Divina went straight to asking Alden’s condition then. “Kumusta ka na? Nakatulog ka naman ba ng mahimbing?” (How are you? Did you sleep well?) Alden said yes at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. He then asked Divina. “Anong oras ka nagising?” (What time did you wake up?)

ALDUB Serendipity
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Divina replied. “Hindi ko maalala. Ikaw?” (I don’t remember. How about you?) Alden said that he woke up at 4am. Divina pried further. “Anong oras ka nakauwi?” (What time did you get home?) Alden said that it’s at 2am. The discussion then went to Alden’s pet. [It was obvious that they had another ad in the bag once the pet was discussed at the ALDUB Serendipity episode.] Alden shared a pet with her ad partner without mentioning which brand will it be.

Alden then asked if Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB had new jokes in store. Divina had to explain. “Wala nga akong jokes kasi busy ako sa pagaaral.” (I didn’t have any jokes since I was busy with my studies.) Alden came prepared at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Electricity ka ba?” (Are you electricity?) Divina asked why. Alden replied. “Kasi binibigyan mo ng spark ang buhay ko.” (Because you give sparks to my life.)

Lola Nidora then was asked again about the pet. Only she can ask both Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB and Alden about the alleged pet. Divina replied. “May pet po kasi kami kagabi. Ayun po. Inalagaan niya yung pet.” (We have a pet last night. So there. He was taking care of his pet.) Alden had to clarify what pet before the green jokes take hold into the ALDUB Serendipity dialogues. “Nagdala po kasi ako ng dog sa set.” (I brought a dog to the set.) Speaking of green jokes, Boss Joey de Leon can’t help himself again. “May balahibo ba yung pet mo? Kasi walang kwenta kung walang balahibo.” (Is your pet hairy? Because it’s useless when it’s not hairy.)

ALDUB Serendipity
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Lola Nidora then asked Donya Tidora. “Tidora, wala ka bang tanong sa pet niya?” (Don’t you have any questions about his pet?) Donya Tidora can’t think of any. “Tingnan ko na lang.” (I’ll just check it out.) Donya Tidora once brought her chou chou at the KalyeSerye. Lola Nidora hoped it would lessen raunchy rumors. “Naniniwala kayo sa chismis eh.” (You believe the rumors too much.) The DUBsmash exchange was inevitable since Alden used a line from his cover version of The Itchyworms’ original “Akin Ka Na Lang” (Be Mine Instead).

Divina replied with a DUBsmash track too. Maja Salvador’s “Dahan Dahan Lang”. Alden then switched to a rather risque pickup line at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Puede bang lumayas ka na sa harapan ko?” (Will you please get out of my face?) Divina didn’t ask why. She just stood up and left. Alden then tried to stop her though. “Sandali. Di pa ko tapos.” (Wait. I’m not done yet.) He even tried to coach her what to say. “Sabihin mo ‘Bakit po?’” (Say “Why, granny?”)

Divina did as she was told. “Bakit po, Lola?” (Why, granny?) Alden realized that Divina was taking the instructions a little too literally. So there’s Take 2 and Take 3 that occurred at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. Divina was a little light-headed in the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Bakit? Linawin mo. Magulo pa utak ko.” (Why? Make it clear. My head is a little hazy.)

ALDUB Serendipity
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Alden then repeated it. He was patient enough with Divina to say the pickup line again. “Puede bang lumayas ka na sa harapan ko?” ([Alternate loose translation.] Will you get away in front of me?) Divina replied by Take 6 at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Bakit?” (Why?) Alden then answered. “Para dito ka na sa tabi ko.” (So that you would be by my side.)

Bossing Vic was quick to parody Alden’s pickup line to Allan K. “Puede bang lumayas ka na sa harapan ko?” (Will you get out of my face?) Allan K asked why. Bossing Vic replied. “Naalibadbaran ako sa mukha mo eh.” (I get grossed out with your face.) Alden then told Divina that he’s ready. Divina asked him. “Ready saan?” (Ready for what?) Alden replied. “Sa condition mo.” (For your condition.) Lola Nidora had to tone down Alden and Divina for the meantime. “Mamaya na yung condition. Mag-Sugod-Bahay muna tayo.” (Later with the condition. Let’s take the Sugod-Bahay errand for the meantime.)

Donya Tinidora is worried that Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB might end up acting like Lola Nidora. “Yaya, baka pahirapan mo pa si Alden. Baka ipako mo pa sa krus.” (Nanny, you might make it hard for Alden. You might even crucify him.)Divina denied such evil thoughts. Lola Nidora just repeated to Donya Tinidora what she said earlier at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Hayaan nyo ngang mag-decision itong si Divina.” (Let Divina decide for herself.) They were slightly bickering among themselves when their Sugod Bahay winner finally arrived courtesy of Bossing Vic Sotto’s son, Vico.

ALDUB Serendipity
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

After the Sugod Bahay errand. Alden was shown at the other monitor warming up on the treadmill. He was with Baste. The treadmill was slow to accommodate Baste’s speed. [Or lack of it.] Alden explained the warm-up routines at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Baka po kasi ka-level ng challenge ni Lola. Mabuti na pong makapag-ready.” (It might be in the same level of difficulty as that of granny. Might as well be ready.) Lola Nidora told her sisters to go back to cleaning the house. Knowing that Divina is still shy to say what the condition may be.

Divina took awhile to muster enough courage to tell Alden. “Ang totoo niyan, nasorpresa mo ko nung Sabado. Siempre dun sa tanong.” (The truth is you really surprised me last Saturday [at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode]. I was surprised with the question.) Alden made sure that he didn’t want to pressure Divina at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Sana malaman mo na hindi naman kita minamadali. Kaya gaya ng sinabi ko sa video, mahirap man, balewala yun.” (I hope [that I have made myself clear] that I am not rushing you. Like what I said in the [montage] video, even if it’s hard, it’s nothing.)

Alden was referring to the time he’d end up spending with Divina as the sweet fruit of his labors. “Kung papalarin, pati taon, madali kong haharapin yun. Basta andyan ka.” (If we last even years, I can face [your conditions] easily. As long as you’re there.) Divina promised that it won’t be that hard. “Habaan mo pasensya mo. Di kita pahihirapan.” (Be patient even more. I won’t make it that hard for you.)

ALDUB Serendipity
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Divina had apprehensions. But there’s no turning back at the ALDUB Serendipity episode. “Gusto ko sana, seryosong sagot. Pinag-isipan ko talaga itong mabuti. Ang gusto ko kasi sa lalaki, mahaba ang pasensya. Kaya ayun, ang unang pagsubok, masusubok natin ang pasensiya mo. Gusto ko sanang matuto kang maglaro ng instrumento.” (I would like a serious answer. I thought about it really well. I would like in a man to have a long patience. So there, for the first test will test your patience. I would like you to learn how to play an instrument.) Alden was quick to reply. “Kaya ko yun.” (I can do it.) Before Divina could finish her sentence, the truck horn honked off. Leaving the ALDUB Serendipity episode on a cliffhanger.

Which musical instrument can it be? Does Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB plan to be particular about it? Tune in to Eat Bulaga. Monday to Saturday at noontime. Like Eat Bulaga’s official Facebook page to catch the ALDUB Serendipity episode replay.

Suggestions have chimed in. The biggest concern then is that Alden might end up not choosing only one instrument from the ALDUB Serendipity episode. Would he even focus just in case he picks one? ALDUB Plateau? Response to Mr. Josiah Go

[ALDUB Plateau Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] Writing a response to Mr. Josiah go’s ALDUB Plateau article is admittedly daunting. But I know that it would be tough to do so when you are trying to be objective about points that you would like to stress out. But in this day and age where marketing has become content-reliant. I should give what I deserve is worth by using Mr. Josiah Go’s own pointers in this ALDUB Plateau article. In short, an effort to balance the artistic need to create and the entrepreneurial need to cater to customer demands.

ALDUB Plateau
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Before reading the ALDUB Plateau article on social media and on Mr. Josiah Go’s website. I have read the printed version on Philippine Daily Inquirer’s Business Friday section. Also I am familiar with his articles years ago with Entrepreneur Philippines magazine. In other words, I know that he meant well upon writing the ALDUB Plateau article. Hence the terms that stuck to my head are “market-driven strategy” and “market-driving strategy”.

I may not like it that the reference he used in his ALDUB Plateau article is from Kantar Media. Kantar Media is not the only agency out there handling data used for measuring ratings and viewership. No mention of AGB Nielsen. Then again, the obvious focal points are the above-mentioned strategies. I may not be a marketer or an agency person. But it’s worth my 2 cents worth to analyze what he wrote. Could there be points where we can agree with at the ALDUB Plateau article?

What does he mean by mentioning “market-driven strategy” at the ALDUB Plateau article? It refers to steps taken to keep the customer-base earned happy. He may not have mentioned in the ALDUB Plateau article what particular steps kept the “customer base” (ALDUB Nation, ALDENATICS, MAINENATICS, etc.) coming back for more. It is consistent with what Joe Polizzi of the Content Marketing Institute mentioned in his Marketo webinar dated 20 August 2015 (Manila time).

ALDUB Plateau
Screenshot from the Marketo Webinar featuring excerpts from Content Inc.

I made some screenshots knowing that Pulizzi’s Marketo webinar will only be available on a limited time. He talked about establishing a base first before learning to sell anything. It was consistent to what happened to Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza through her KalyeSerye character YayaDUB. Both talents are now flooded with endorsements either as a love team or individually. It was an effort to still distinguish them from each other.

Now what does Mr. Josiah Go mean by mentioning “market-driving strategy” at the ALDUB Plateau article? It refers to efforts to win new customers. It can be done on a daily basis anyway. But right now, the main angle that first comes to mind is the Jake angle. Mr. Josiah Go may not have asked if fans need another third wheel in the story. Personally how many third wheels does the KalyeSerye need to keep the interest going? Because right now, it has started to run its course. And it is becoming a lame excuse to extend this trope called “Tamang Panahon” (Right Time). 2 aborted weddings and the threat of emotional cheating and you’re still not in a relationship? You’re stretching yourselves too thin.

Mr. Josiah Go could have used data other than the Kantar Media-provided information to emphasize the inconvenient truth behind the ALDUB Plateau. Data mentioned in the ALDUB Plateau article refer to the months of November and December in the year 2015. In other words, post-Philippine Arena era. Some casual fans were like “Alden and Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB have finally been allowed to see each. Now I can move on with my life.” That is the quickest explanation behind the drop.

ALDUB Plateau
Screenshot from Inquirer Business

Ratings are not yet that low. But the ads keep on coming as Mr. Josiah Go’s article about the ALDUB Plateau are published in print and online through Philippine Daily Inquirer and his website affiliated with his agency. So the ALDUB Plateau is not that bad as he claims it to be. I disagree though that the mystique surrounding the character Divina Ursula Bocbocoba Smash has diminished simply because the Tuviera Empire through Eat Bulaga has started packaging Maine Mendoza as a celebrity. If fans viewed YayaDUB talking as a good thing, it meant progress in terms of character development. Cliche as it may seem, it was the literal equivalent of finding her voice in a crazy world.

Maine Mendoza finally being given hosting duties is part of her evolution as a talent in Eat Bulaga. It would be unfair for Mr. Josiah Go to blame the ALDUB Plateau on the loss of the cloud of mystery surrounding the actress playing YayaDUB. Fans are happy to see her develop new talents apart from the DUBsmashing skills that she has mastered on her own. Besides, to rephrase what Ms. Jenny Ferre once said, what good is trending if there are no ratings?

When Mr. Josiah Go then said “All these things simply please the existing fans”, so what? Several actors and actresses have come and go and they have never established a fan base as massive as that of ALDUB. Why worry about viewers that have moved on from being fans of ALDUB when there is already a loyal base that would keep the fire burning? The loyal fans that were mentioned at the ALDUB Plateau article were, without them realizing it, advocates of the ALDUB fandom. Then again, the ALDUB Plateau chose to focus on what Eat Bulaga should be doing instead.

ALDUB Plateau
Screenshot by @TheFilipinoSpec

The ALDUB Plateau article is more about business and less about the creativity involved in running a successful segment like the KalyeSerye. This is why he mentioned on another point at the ALDUB Plateau article. “The problem with that is that it may become a dissatisfier if you remove or change it”. This might slightly explain why sometimes the story tends to focus more on YayaDUB. How can the story move forward if Alden’s commitments outside Eat Bulaga cause him to be absent on several episodes? That is where Mr. Josiah Go’s dissatisfier claim sets in.

The other dissatisfier is the presence of Jake. [Yes. I can see that having 2 Jakes in the same class that Divina attends felt like an effort to appease the once livid fan base.] Alden is not around. And the angle gets shoved further into the audience before Alden leaves for Dubai. As much as fans didn’t want to over-analyze things that would further feed their collective neuroses, it really ended looking like the attempted change that ended up becoming a dissatisfier in the KalyeSerye. It is commendable for the writing team of Ms. Jenny Ferre to shake things up to further buffer the ALDUB Plateau. But it shook things up in the wrong direction.

Surely, some requests were granted to spice up the story. Like giving Alden Richards a fictional grandmother because it’s always YayaDUB having her folks interfere in the love story. Also, some fans suggested giving ALDUB a third wheel too after seeing how cute Alden looked like whenever he’s jealous. He got jealous of Dr. Tan-Ning, of Bossing Vic Sotto’s son Vico and of Jake before it was revealed that Divina had 2 classmates named Jake. But what went wrong in that angle that slightly worsened the ALDUB Plateau? Divina’s reaction every time Jake called as opposed to when Alden called at the ALDUB 25th Weeksary episode.

ALDUB Plateau
Screenshot from @TheFilipinoSpec

I understand Eat Bulaga’s need to defend Maine Mendoza by giving her some acting challenges through the Jake angle. But this is not the change that the ALDUB fan base needed. The market-driving strategy, if we are going to analyze this business-wise, is not working.

Not because a third wheel is the quickest way to get the fans riling up, it will work the way they envisioned it. No. It even alienated some fans that still believed in forever. And it struck a raw nerve among overseas Filipino workers too. Most of them have been working hard to earn for their family’s future only for their spouses to start looking around. Or so their paranoia tells them. Furthermore, it disrupted the character development of Divina. It fueled the ALDUB Plateau.

Before the ALDUB Plateau article was published. Lola Nidora delivered a sermon to the disillusioned fans. It may have turned her into Ms. Jenny Ferre’s mouthpiece. But the frustration with some fans is obvious. Is that an acceptable excuse for snapping at the fan base? Of course not. But it seems like Mr. Josiah Go has found the best answer against that sermon. “Innovation is about two elements – offering something new, but being commercially successful.”

ALDUB Plateau
Screenshot from Inquirer Business

In short, know how to fit your creativity with what the fans wanted and keep the consistency. The sitcom potential of ALDUB was already proven with episodes like the ALDUB Bagong Simula and the ALDUB Pagbangon episodes. The teleserye elements of a villain, a conflict and a breath-taking cliffhanger at the end of every episode is still essential to keep the market’s interest up. At the same time, it doesn’t have to imitate reality a little too closely. What does the market want? Escapist entertainment.

The ALDUB Plateau can still be thwarted as long as the crew behind the phenomenal KalyeSerye are reminded why people still watch Eat Bulaga. Despite the elitist view on Eat Bulaga as one of the reasons behind the “dumbing down” of the masses, people still watch it. They need a respite from the horrible reality called life. That if forever still existed, at least it should stay in the stories that unfold right before our eyes. And no other quote had ever been more appropriate now, than from Professor Snape himself, Alan Rickman. That interview he gave to IFC.com produced one of the best quotes behind the need for stories.

ALDUB Plateau
Quote taken from IFC.com’s Interview with Alan Rickman

I may not be a marketer like Mr. Josiah Go. But my interests are also on art and marketing. While Mr. Josiah Go’s article addressed more of the business side of the cause of the ALDUB Plateau. I had to try and balance the artistic need to create and the marketing need to keep the customer base happy. 41 million tweets are still 41 million tweets after all. 6.2 million vs. 2.6 million could have been more believable if Mr. Josiah Go did not rely on Kantar Media alone.

What innovations are in store for the phenomenal KalyeSerye after Mr. Josiah Go’s ALDUB Plateau article? Tune in to Eat Bulaga. Monday to Saturday at noontime. Like their official Facebook page to catch the Kalyeserye episode replays. Ever realized how difficult it can get to write stories? It’s still the selling point of various entertainment programs like Eat Bulaga after all. And the ALDUB Plateau won’t be long. How? The best way is by keeping tab of our episode recaps as posted on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. You should be following us on both accounts now. We’d be expecting you then.

ALDUB 6th Monthsary: Pop The Serious Question

[ALDUB 6th Monthsary Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] Since the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode fell on a Saturday. Lola Nidora and Donya Tinidora arrived at the Broadway Centrum studio ahead of Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB. Donya Tidora is expected to follow. [Eat Bulaga viewers already knew why.] Expectations are already high at this point. Several third wheels, forced and organic, have come along. Yet the only thing that is not yet official here is the relationship itself.ALDUB 6th Monthsary

What was celebrated at the ALDUB EB Tamang Panahon special episode then? It was only the beginning of Alden finally getting allowed to see Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB with less to almost no interruption from Lola Nidora. She still snaps at Alden’s sneak attempts at getting extra closer to her grand-niece, of course. But if this is an employment contract, something’s gotta give now at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode.

For the meantime at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. Lola Nidora and Donya Tinidora reminisced what occurred upon seeing the backstage. Lola Nidora remembered how she turned the backstage into a “torture chamber” for Alden Richards without mentioning any episode in particular. “Muli kong nakita ang lugar na ito. Anim na buwan na ang nakakaraan.” (I saw this place once more. It’s been 6 months that has passed.)

Donya Tinidora has a contrasting memoir. “Naku! PA pa lang ako dito. Dami ko nang naaalala dito.” (Oh dear! I was still a production assistant here when I remember what has transpired.) Lola Nidora noted Donya Tinidora’s comment at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode as a little off. “Iba naman yun.” (That’s something else.) [Jose Manalo was once part of the crew of Eat Bulaga before getting discovered for his comic skills on live telecast episodes of Eat Bulaga. Eat Bulaga was already on GMA Network when it happened.]

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Soon the resident hosts of Eat Bulaga welcomed Lola Nidora and Donya Tinidora onstage. When they asked where is Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB. Lola Nidora replied. “Kasama nung isang lola.” (She’s with the other granny.) While waiting for her at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. Eat Bulaga went through with their Bulaga Pa More Battle of the Champions. Later, Alden was shown on TV arranging the bouquet that he’s about to give to Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB.

Once Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB arrived. Alden gave the flowers. “Hi, Maine. Happy Monthsary.” Divina happily replied. “Happy Monthsary. Salamat sa pabulaklak.” (Thanks for the flowers.) Donya Tinidora’s observant eye strikes again. “Terno kayo?” (Couple outfits?) Divina tried to clarify the same shade of blue on the long-sleeved clothes that she and Alden wore at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “Di po namain napag-usapan.” (We did not discussed it over.)

Alden exchanged a promise of “Walang iwanan” (No one left behind) with Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB. It seemed like a reaction to that brutally honest article by Josiah Go. [I plan to rebut that article in due time.] Alden then revealed one of the first surprises that he prepared for the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “Maine, pinaghandaan ko itong monthsary eh. May gusto sana akong sabihin sa yo.” (Maine, I prepared for our monthsary. I’d like to tell you something.) Alden then proceeded to sing some lines from his cover version of The Itchyworms’ “Akin Ka Na Lang” (Be Mine Instead) Close to the end of the song. Divina ended up sitting on Alden’s lap. Lola Nidora glared at them again.

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB had a simple answer to Alden’s song excerpt. “Simula pa lang, alam mo nang sa ‘yo na ko.” (From the very beginning, you already knew that I’m yours.) Alden reiterated what he said in the song outside the song number at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “Please. Akin ka na lang.” (Be mine instead.) Divina a.k.a YayaDUB had to see if Alden is for real. “Seryoso ka talaga?” (Are you serious?) Another DUBsmash exchange ensued at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode.

Lola Nidora tried catching the couple’s attention though. “Baka gusto nyo kaming pansinin.” (Maybe you’d like to pay attention to us.) Donya Tidora had to remind Lola Nidora though. “Hayaan mo na. Nagmo-moments yung dalawa.” (Let them. They’re having their moments.) Lola Nidora waited for the next DUBsmash exchange to end before throwing in another complaint. “Akala ko ba monthsary. Nasan na yung pagkain?” (I thought it’s the monthsary. Where’s the food?) Previous weeksary episodes and monthsary episodes would include generous servings of food.

The food is at the gazebo for Alden and Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB to share. Alden then asked permission from the grannies. “Puede po ba kaming mag-solo date, lola? Kakain lang po.” (May we have a date to ourselves, grannies? We will just eat.) Lola Nidora said they may. She even had to repeat herself to her sisters who failed to hear her say “Go!” Donya Tinidora then asked Alden to pack some food for the grannies too at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. Donya Tidora then just left a request for them. “Ipagbalot nyo kami ha?” (Pack some food for us [to take home], okay?) Alden agreed.

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

The “isaw” (grilled chicken intestines) is now a staple at their dates just like at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. Donya Tinidora then thought dating YayaDUB for Alden is economical. “Kaya gustong gusto niya si Yaya. Matipid. Isaw lang, okay na.” (No wonder he liked nanny so much. It’s affordable. Grilled chicken intestines served and she’s fine.) Lola Nidora thought that it might be some leftovers from the holiday dinner.

Since the Kalye’s Angels are at the Broadway Centrum. Sugod Broadway is up again. The chosen winner brought a gift for Alden Richards in behalf of the MAINEnatics QC Chapter. A Funko Iron Maine action figure. Her message at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary for a lasting relationship was simple but true. “Maipapayo ko po sa kanila, give-and-take lang. Yung mga maliliit na issue, wag nang palakihin.” (I would advice them to handle the relationship in a give-and-take manner. Any small issue should not be enlarged anymore.) She received applause for what she said.

After the Sugod-Broadway errand at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. Lola Nidora then noticed the table between Alden and Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB. “Napapansin ko. Umiksi na yung table nila.” (I noticed. Their table has gotten shorter.) Much of the conversation between the ALDUB couple is done off-air. Once they got back their microphones. Alden reminded Divina of what he told her. “Yung sinabi ko sa yo ha?” (Remember what I told you, okay?)

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB can’t give a definite answer yet at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “Sige. Pag-iisipan ko. Saka alam mo naman na iyong iyo na ako, Alden. Totoo. Seryoso yun.” (Okay. I would think about it. And you already knew that I am all yours, Alden. For real. Seriously.)

Alden had to push the idea that he’s serious too. “Parang wala ako sa mood mag-joke.” (I don’t think I’m in the mood for joking.) Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB stretched the idea on her end at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary too. “Kaya ngayon paggising ko, seryoso ako. Hindi ako ngumingiti. Pagkakita ko sa yo, nakangiti na ako.” (So upon waking up today, I am serious. I don’t smile. Upon seeing you, I smiled.)

Later, Alden and Divina were exchanging whispers. It got everyone excited. Senator Tito thought that it’s about something else. “May mga lumalabas na litrato nina Yaya at Alden. Photoshop yan. Wag nyong ginagamit si Alden at si YayaDUB.” (Several images of Nanny and Alden were circulating online. They were photoshopped. Don’t use Alden and Nanny.)

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Bossing strongly agreed by exclaiming. “Oo nga!” (Yes indeed!) Donya Tinidora repeated what she had been reiterating all along even at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “Kaya delikado yang papa-fan sign. Pinapalitan nila yung nakasulat.” (That’s why fan signs are dangerous. They change what’s written on them.)

Alden and Divina neither confirmed nor denied Senator Tito’s claim. But they promised a surprise underway at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. And since reminiscing is unavoidable at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora reminded Lola Nidora how she made life hell for Alden. “Ang may kagagawan ng lahat. Si Ate. Dami mong pinagawa sa mga bata. May plywood. May long table.” (All [travails] caused by one person. Our elder sister. You made these kids go through so much [hardships]. From the plywood to the long table.) It was almost a litany of the almost Herculean tasks that Lola Nidora subjected Alden to.

Lola Nidora was a little fed up of the blame game that her sisters often subjected her to. “Pumunta tayo para sa monthsary. Hindi sa sinisisi mo ko.” (We’re here for the monthsary. Not to be your scapegoat.) Donya Tidora found some justification in Lola Nidora’s explanation at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “Sabagay. Naging matatag sila sa mga pangaral mo.” (On the other hand. They were strengthened by your lessons.)

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Lola Nidora then remembered the same troubles that the House of De Explorer had gone through. “Madaling malampasan ang mga pagsubok kapag may mga mahal sa buhay.” (Trials are easily endured when you have your loved ones.) Alden and Divina assured her that they will always be close. “Andito lang po kami. Love na love po namin kayo at ng ALDUB Nation.” (We’re only here. We love you very much and so is the ALDUB Nation.)

Lola Nidora could only think of the stark differences between her time and now. “Sa panahon namin ni Miguel, anniversary lang. Ngayon, monthsary, tapos weeksary. Di magtatagal pati daysary at hoursary. (During our time of Miguel, we only celebrate anniversaries. Now there are monthsaries and weeksaries. Soon even daysaries and hoursaries will be celebrated.) The Kalye’s Angels then revealed their own surprise for ALDUB and the ALDUB Nation at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. They then performed a cover of Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive”. Donya Tidora went falsetto. Donya Tinidora ate her lyrics. And Lola Nidora managed to sing clearly.

A Q&A with the fans then followed at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. It was facilitated by Allan K himself. One of the questions that sparked everyone’s interest was “In real life ba, may nagaganap bang monthsary?” (Are there monthsary celebrations in real life?) Donya Tinidora’s answer was vague. “Araw-araw kasama namin siya. Napapansin ko. Araw-araw kasama namin siya.” (We are with her [Maine] everyday. I noticed that. Everyday we are with her.) Lola Nidora’s answer was a lot safer. “Iti-text ko na lang sa yo ang sagot.” (I’d just send you [Allan K] my answer through text.)

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Another question at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode went as “Ano feeling nyo kapag nagkikita kayo?” (How do you feel whenever you see each other?) Maine answered it first. “Pag alam kong magkikita kami, alam kong masaya ako.” (Every time I know that we will see each other, I know that I’m happy.) Alden then answered. “Kung ano ang nakikita nyo sa KalyeSerye, yun na yun.” (Whatever you see at the KalyeSerye, that’s it.)

Allan K accepts even questions thrown in from Twitter. He read one of them. “I want to ask A [for Alden] what inspired him [in his first DUBsmash clip].” Alden found a ready answer at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “Kasi naniniwala na ako sa forever. Yan yun unang DUBsmash na unang tumatak sa akin.” (Because I now believe in forever. That’s is the first DUBsmash track that made a mark on me.) There was also a question for Maine from Twitter. “If you could take Alden on a tour of New York, where?” Maine’s answer is easy. “Central Park. Kasi favorite movie ko yung Serendipity. Happy accident.” (Because my favorite movie is Serendipity.)

Alden and Maine then sent out a message to everyone that stayed through all those 6 months. “Meron talagang may magbababa. Hindi po kayo bumitaw. Anniversary. 5 years. Forever. Wag mawawalan ng tiwala sa Dios.” (There really are people that would try to drag you down. And you [ALDUB Nation and the rest of the fan clubs] never let go. Until the anniversary. 5 years. Until forever. Never lose faith in God.) Allan K took the time to send out a message to their detractors too at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. “At sa mga naninira at mga bashers, style nyo bulok.” (And to the detractors and bashers, you’re style is so rotten.)

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Alden then turned to his better half. “Magbabago ang lahat. Pero ang ALDUB hindi magbabago.” (Everything will change. But ALDUB will never change.) She asked him. “Promise?” He replied. “Promise.” Alden then reminded her of the surprise they prepared for the fans. But first. The ALDUB couple delivered their DUBsmash greatest hits. From the Malaysian DUBsmash to the pabebe girls version 1 and version 2. It served as the prologue to their dance number at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode.

The Kalye’s Angels had a simple feedback to them at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary dance number. “Kelan nyo ni-rehearse yan?” (When did you rehearse that?) Alden replied not so seriously. “Kanina lang po.” (Just awhile ago.) Divina’s answer didn’t help either. “Pinakiramdaman ko po.” (I just played it by ear.) Alden then tried to divert the topic back to his question to Divina. “Divina Ursula Bocbocoba Smash. Seryoso ako sa tanong kanina.” (I am serious about my question awhile ago.)

Divina looked like she’s at a loss for words. Alden continued. “Mas madali nang harapin dahil ikaw at ako. Tayong dalawa. Yung tanong ko sa yo kanina. Puede mo na bang sagutin? Puede bang akin ka na lang?” (It’s now easier to face [the future] because of you and me. The two of us. About my question awhile ago. May you please answer it now? Will you be mine?) Divina found it harder to speak at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode now that Alden has revealed. Alden has officially popped the question. Divina is still at a loss for words.

ALDUB 6th Monthsary

Alden pressed further. “Gusto ko lang linawin. Hindi na to joke. Para sagutin mo na ko.” (I want to be clear. It’s no longer a joke. So that you may answer me.) Divina looked at Lola Nidora. Earlier, Alden whispered the same question to Lola Nidora too. At least this would mean less shocks for Lola Nidora at the ALDUB 6th Monthsary episode. Lola Nidora then told Divina. “Divina, may tinatanong si Alden. Decision mo yan. Labas na ko diyan.” (Alden is asking you. It’s your decision. Count me out.) Divina then answered. “Pero sa tatlong condition.” (But on 3 conditions.) Just when she was about to blurt the first condition, the truck horn honked off. Closing the ALDUB 6th Monthsary on another cliffhanger.

ALDUB 26th Weeksary: Miss Barangay Pageant

[ALDUB 26th Weeksary Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] The ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode opened with Donya Tidora applying makeup on Divina. Divina can’t calm her nerves. And she voiced it out to her grand-aunt. “Itutuloy pa ba natin ito, Lola?” (Are we going to push through with this, granny?) Donya Tidora found it amusing for Divina to get nervous at this point.“Yang pagkakakulot ng buhok mo, kinabahan ka pa ha?” (To think that you have already curled your hair is when you get nervous?) Divina insisted on her unstable nerves. “Hindi po ako prepared eh.” (I am so not prepared.) Donya Tidora dismissed it to calm her down. “Hayaan mo na. Kaya mo yan. Basta tandaan mo mga tinuro namin sa yo.” (Never mind. You can do it. As long as you remember what we have taught you.)

Divina then started asking for her grannies. “Asan na nga po pala sina Lola?” (Where are the grannies?) Donya Tidora could only complain about the absences of Lola Nidora and Donya Tinidora. “Yung dalawa, naku.” (Oh! Those two!) Bossing Vic had a little speculation at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Baka naghahanap din ng pageant.” (They might be looking for a pageant too.) Who knows if there would be another pageant for them to join and win cash too?

Divina then practiced her smile in front of the mirror. Despite the Fall of the House of De Explorer. Donya Tidora kept a decent makeup kit. The mirror may not be full-length. But it was enough to help Divina view her smile. She asked Donya Tidora for some advice at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Dapat po may ngipin. Ano po mas maganda? Yung wala po o meron?” (I should smile with the teeth showing. Which looked better? With teeth or without teeth?) Donya Tidora checked first before picking a look for Divina. “Patingin … O yung may ngipin. Hindi. Yung ngipin sa ibaba. Ayan! Mas maganda yung 3-teeth. Yung tinuro ni Tinidora.” (Let me see …. Try smiling with teeth. No. Show your lower teeth. There you go. Tinidora’s 3-teeth smiling style looked better though.)

ALDUB 26th Weeksary

Divina then practiced the 3-teeth smile at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Nangangatog po ba dapat?” (Should it tremble?) Donya Tinidora can smile exposing only 3 teeth with quivering lips. Divina somewhat captured the look. But Donya Tidora wanted to be sure. “O sige. Mag-practice ka lang.” (Okay. Just go ahead and practice.) Donya Tidora continued on retouching Divina’s makeup. The camera then zoomed out from where they sat to show Lola Nidora and Donya Tinidora waiting by the balcony.

Donya Tinidora was trying to pacify Lola Nidora at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Ano ka ba naman, ate? Ang ganda-ganda na nga ng apo mo tapos ganyan ang mukha mo.” (What is with you? Your grand-niece is so beautiful and your face looks awful.) Lola Nidora justified her forlorn stance. “Ano ka ba naman? Nag-aalala lang ako kay Divina. Dapat yata hindi ko na lang siya pinayagan.” (What is with you? I am just worried for Divina. I shouldn’t have allowed her.) Donya Tinidora found Lola Nidora’s nerves grating on her own nerves. “Ikaw naman, ate. Para kang ano diyan. Alam mong ginagawa lahat ni Divina ito para sa yo. Nag-practice na ngang mabuti yung bata.” (Oh please, elder sister. As if you’re someone else. You know that Divina is doing all of this for you. The kid practiced rigorously.)

Lola Nidora justified her frantic silence. “Eh kaya nga ako ninenerbyos eh. Ganyan na ganyan siya nung sumali sa Little Miss Philippines. Isang buwan kaming nag-rehearse. Nag-practice. Nung dumating sa audition, hindi nagsalita. ‘What is your name’ lang, hindi nagsalita. Hindi na sumagot. Eh papano kung mangyari ulit yun?” (That’s why I’m nervous. That was exactly how she was when she joined Little Miss Philippines. We rehearsed for a month. We practiced. The moment we arrived on audition day, she can’t speak. She can’t even answer a question as simple as ‘What is your name?’ She can’t reply. What if it happens again?) Donya Tinidora just diverted the topic at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Yung high blood mo. Tumataas na naman niyan eh.” (Your high blood is shooting up again.)

Lola Nidora was bent on not coming with them to the pageant. “Kayo na lang ni Tidora ang sumama dun sa contest. Hindi ko yata kakayanin. Baka dun pa ko atakihin eh.” (You of Tidora should go with her to the contest. I might not take it. I might fall into a seizure there itself.) Donya Tinidora tried again to convince Lola Nidora at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Ate naman. Hahanapin ka ni Yaya. Alam mo namang sa yo humuhugot ng lakas ng loob yung bata. Masyado ka kasing nega. Ikaw na lang ang ganyan. Lagi ka na lang natatakot. Lagi ka na lang kinakabahan. Puro ka nerbyos. Sapakin kita diyan eh.” (Elder sister, please. Nanny would be looking for you. You know that she gets her confidence from you. You’re such a negative thinker. You’re the only one here who’s negative. You’re always afraid. You’re always panicky. You’re nothing but a bag of nerves. I’m gonna smack you.)

ALDUB 26th Weeksary
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Lola Nidora found Donya Tinidora’s sermon a little painful. “Ako lang? Ako lang?” (So it’s just me all along?) Donya Tinidora shoved the point further. “Oo. Puro kayo nerbyoso.” (Yes. You’re all frantic!) Lola Nidora believed that she is not the only person in the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode who’s shaking inside.“Tingnan ko lang kundi rin kayo nininerbyos.” (Let me see if you’re not nervous too.) Donya Tinidora then called out Donya Tidora. “Tidora, halika nga.” (Tidora, come over here.)

Donya Tidora came running to her sisters. She almost fell due to overflowing tension. She found herself begging Lola Nidora for strength. “Ate, ninenerbyos ako!” (Elder sister, I feel tense!) Lola Nidora reiterated what everyone else already knew at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Ako rin! Kanina pa!” (Me too! Since awhile ago!) Donya Tidora didn’t show this side of her to Divina. Just to her sisters since they would understand. “Kinakabahan ako, ate! Natatakot ako para kay Yaya!” (I feel edgy, elder sister! I am worried for nanny!)

ALDUB 26th Weeksary
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Lola Nidora then shoved this edgy feeling to Donya Tinidora. “O di ba? Ako lang ang takot di ba? Ako lang?” (See? I’m the only one who’s scared, right? Just me?) Donya Tidora let go of the strong facade. Divina is too preoccupied retouching her makeup. Donya Tidora continued in this part of the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Sa buong buhay ko, ate, ngayon ko lang naramdaman ang ganito. Excited ako. Pero parang natatakot ako para kay Yaya.” (In my whole life, I’ve never felt like this. I’m excited. But I’m anxious for nanny.)

Lola Nidora then had an idea at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Alam mo, kinakabahan ka rin? Kinakabahan din ako. I-cancel na natin ito.” (You know what? You’re nervous? I’m nervous too. Let’s cancel this.) Donya Tinidora protested. “Ano ba naman kayo? Anong cancel? Mga nerbyosa! Mga takot! Puro kayo ganyan! Puro kayo takot! Anong mangyayari dun sa bata?” (What is with you? What cancel? You frantic wretches! You’re always like that! You’re all worried! What will happen to the kid?)

As the sisters bickered among themselves. Alden was shown on the other monitor pacing in his den. He’s nervous too. “Lola, hello po.” (Granny, hello.) The Kalye’s Angels then ended up looking like bobbleheads on a dashboard when they greeted him back. “Hello.” As of the ALDUB 26th Weeksary. Alden is no longer a contender in the beauty pageant circuit. But he’s just as frantic. “Hindi ko po maipaliwanag. Pati po ako ninenerbyos eh.” (I can’t explain it. I feel nervous too.)

Lola Nidora acknowledged Alden’s presence at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Alden, nandyan ka pala.” (Alden, so you’re there.) Alden greeted her in reply. “Hello, Lola.” Donya Tinidora commented on how they looked at the monitor. “Para tayong mga puppet.” (We look like puppets.) Lola Nidora complained after seeing the monitor. “Bakit kayo, kita? Ako hindi.” (How come you are seen? Not me.) Donya Tidora told her what she did wrong. “Pano kasi, umupo ka pa.” (Well, you sat down.)

Alden cut to the chase. “Lola, kamusta na po si Yaya?” (Granny, how is nanny doing?) Lola Nidora still didn’t know. “Hindi ko alam. Kinakabahan ako. Di ko na nga tinitingnan eh.” (I don’t know. I’m anxious. I haven’t even checked her.) Alden felt nervous too. “Ako rin po eh.” (Me too.) Lola Nidora found kindred spirits in her tense mood at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Apat na tayong kinakabahan. Wag na nating ituloy ito.” (There are already four of us nervous. Let’s not push throught with this.) Donya Tinidora excluded herself from the anxious folks. “Tatlo lang kayo. Anong apat? Wag nyo kong isali. Mga nerbyoso kayo!” (You’re just three. What four? Count me out. You bag of nerves!)

Alden tried to justify the anxiety in the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Siempre. Gusto naman natin si Yaya yung manalo. E siguro kaya ganito ang nararamdaman natin #IFeelThePressure.” (Of course. We only wanted nanny to win. The main reason perhaps is [hashtag] #IFeelThePressure.) Donya Tinidora ended up scolding Alden too. “Naku, wag kayong ganyan, Alden, ha? Lakasan nyo ang loob nyo. Naku, eto ngang si Yaya. Lahat ng ginagawa niya, ganyan kayo eh. Puro kayo kaba. Kayo lang yung mga kabado.” (Don’t do that, okay? Be strong. Here is nanny. She is doing everything and you act that way. You’re the only ones who’s frantic.) Lola Nidora found Donya Tinidora a little annoying at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Ah kami lang ang ganito? E di kami lang.” (So we’re the only ones who feel this way? So be it.)

ALDUB 26th Weeksary
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Donya Tinidora had to remind them again of Divina’s efforts at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Kayo lang ang inaasahan ng bata tapos kinakabahan pa kayo?” (You’re the only ones she’s counting on and you’re all anxious?) Lola Nidora’s next suggestion didn’t help either. “Alam mo, gapangin ko na kaya yung mga judges?” (What is I just talk it over with the judges?)

Donya Tinidora only stopped Lola Nidora fro realizing her plan. “Wag nyong gawin yan. Kaya ni Yaya yan. Tayo ang inaasahan ni Yaya.” (Don’t do that. Nanny can handle this. We are the only ones that she’s counting on this time.) Donya Tidora agreed. But she managed to justify the anxiety on her part in the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Siguro nga. Pero excited lang kami. Kaya kami kinakabahan para sa kanya.” (Maybe we are. But we’re just excited. That’s why we’re nervous for her.)

Alden tried to calm down the bickering grannies. “Kasi kahit ano naman po ang mangyari, andito naman po tayo para suportahan siya. Relax na po tayo.” (No matter what happens, we are here to support her. Let’s all relax.) Donya Tinidora agreed. “Yun naman pala eh. Smile na tayong lahat. Dapat ganyan tayo. Nakangiti tayo. Dapat malakas ang loob natin. Hindi yung kinakabahan tayo.” (So there. Let’s all smile now. We should be doing this. We should smile. We should be strong. Not nervous.) Everyone tried to be calm at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. Still Lola Nidora can’t bring herself to go to the pageant.

Donya Tinidora asked Lola Nidora again. “Ano, ate? Sasali ka na ba sa competition?” (Are you coming with us to the competition.) Lola Nidora replied. “Hindi pa rin.” (Still not.) Donya Tidora now is confused. “Akala ko, susuportahan natin si Yaya?” (I thought we’d be supporting nanny.) Lola Nidora’s support at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary is guaranteed though. “Susuportahan ko siya. Pero hindi maganda ang pakiramdam ko. Baka dun pa ko atakihin. Magkagulo. Mawala sa concentration yang si Divina. Dito na lang ako. Ayoko ng ganun. Pinaghandaan pa naman niya. Basta ikwento nyo na lang sa akin anong mangyayari dun ha?” (I will support her. But I am not feeling well. I might get into panic attacks there. There might be a commotion. Divina might lose her concentration. I will just stay here. I don’t want any trouble. She prepared for this. Just tell me what will happen there, alright?)

Alden reminded Lola Nidora. “Lola, dapat andun kayo.” (Granny, you should be there.) Bossing Vic himself can’t help but agree with the folks pushing Lola Nidora. “Baka mawalan ng inspiration yung bata.” (The kid might lose inspiration.) Donya Tinidora agreed with Bossing Vic at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Yun nga. Para sa kanya yung ginagawa ni Yaya, bossing. Saka kung puede bang mag-request Puede yung ilaw, ilayo nyo nang konti. Ang init naman. Dun ako kinakabahan eh.” (That’s the point, bossing. What nanny is trying to do is for her. I just have one request. Can you please turn that light further away from me? It’s so hot. That’s what I am anxious about.) Donya Tinidora feared that she might burn her face at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode.

Donya Tidora checked back at Divina. “Yaya, tapos ka ba na magbihis?” (Nanny, are you done getting dressed?) Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB answered behind the door. “Lola, natatakot po ako at saka ninenerbyos. Baka di ko po kayanin.” (Granny, I’m scared and nervous. I might not take it.) Alden assured Divina that he’s only close by at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Kakayanin mo lahat. Andito lang naman ako eh. Kaya mo yan. Tama na yung kaba.” (You will endure everything. I am only here. You can handle this. Enough with the nerves.)

Donya Tinidora was skeptical of Alden’s claim. “Andyan ka na naman. Tapos aalis ka na naman? Kaya kinakabahan si Yaya. Baka umalis ka na naman.” (You’re there. Then you’re leaving again? No wonder nanny is nervous. You might go again.) Alden’s out-of-town trips have become a source os insider joke at the KalyeSerye like the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. Alden replied to Donya Tinidora. “Di na po ako aalis, lola.” (I’m no longer leaving, granny.) Donya Tinidora in turn, scolded Lola Nidora. “Tingnan mo. Pati si Alden, nahahawa sa yo.” (Look at Alden. He’s becoming nervous too because of you.)

Lola Nidora took on taking Divina to the pageant venue. “Kinakalma ko na nga ang sarili ko. Sige na. Hindi na ko magnenega. Mag-uusap na lang kami ni Yaya. Ako na lang maghaatid kay Yaya sa covered court. Mamigay na lang muna kayo ng papremyo dito sa barangay. Tapos susunod na lang kami.” (I’m just trying to calm myself. Go ahead. I won’t be thinking negative anymore. We’d talk of nanny about this. I’d take nanny to the covered court. You, in turn, distribute prizes in the barangay.) Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora then went to the Sugod Bahay errand for the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode.

In the middle of the Sugod Bahay errand. Divina was shown at the other monitor dancing for the talent portion. Once the Sugod Bahay errand is done at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora arrived at the venue in time for the announcement of the Magic 3. They felt a little more confident that Divina would win this upon seeing Barbara Sastre (huh?) as the pageant host.

Donya Tinidora cheered with Donya Tidora for Divina. “Larga! Larga!” Donya Tidora then realized what the hell had Donya Tinidora been cheering for. “Ano ba? Ginawa mong sabong!” (What the heck! This is not a cockfight derby!) Barbara Sastre called the pageant for a break for the sake of score tabulation at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. Donya Tinidora is confident that Divina will win this. “Kaya natin yan. Hindi sila nagkulot.” (We can win this. They didn’t curl their hair.)

ALDUB 26th Weeksary

Divina then went down the stage to talk to her grannies. “Lola, parang wala po akong sinabi.” (Granny, I have nothing to say.) Donya Tinidora downplayed Divina’s tension. “Ano ka ba? Wala pa namang tinatanong sa ‘yo.” (What are you talking about? They haven’t asked you anything yet.) Divina then informed her of what transpired while they were away. “Tapos na po yung question and answer portion.” (The Q&A is done while you were away.) The grannies felt bad at missing this part in the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode.

Donya Tinidora then asked her. “Ano ba tinanong sa yo?” (What did they ask you?) Divina replied. “Kung ano pong pangalan ko.” (They asked for my name.) Donya Tinidora pressed further. “Anong sinabi mo?” (What did you say?) Divina informed them. “Wala po.” (Nothing.) Donya Tinidora suppressed her anger. “Hindi ka sumagot?” (You didn’t reply?) Divina had to admit how badly nervous she got. “Kinabahan po ako, lola.” (I got nervous, granny.) Donya Tinidora found it unacceptable at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Pangalan lang. Kinabahan ka pa.” (They were just asking for your name. And you got nervous.) Divina then revealed. ”May stage fright po kasi ako eh.” (I have stage fright.)

Donya Tidora then thought that the pageant should have been done elsewhere. “Dapat ginawa na lang natin ito sa kalsada.” (We should have done this on the street instead.) It was the KalyeSerye after all. [Kalye means “street”. Serye means “series”.] But Divina had some optimism left at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. ”Pero feeling ko po, sa rampa po, me laban po tayo. Saka sa buhok at saka sa pitik.” (But I can feel that when it comes to the catwalk, we have an advantage. From the hair to the head toss.) Donya Tinidora just reminded Divina to tone down the head toss. “Baka mauntog ka naman niyan kakapitik mo diyan.” (You might bump your head with tossing it too much.)

Bossing Vic then asked for Lola Nidora. Divina spoke in behalf of Lola Nidora at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary. “Nasa bahay po. Kasi kinakabahan daw po siya. Baka po atakihin kapag andito. Nagpaiwan na daw po. Pero kasi naiintindihan ko naman po. May moral support naman po siya sa akin.” (She’s at home. She said that she’s nervous. She might get into a panic attack. So she asked to be left at home. But I understand her. She sent some moral support for me.)

Donya Tinidora then asked. “Naka-telecast ba itong pageant? Sabihin mo, wag siyang manood. Baka atakihin.” (Is this pageant telecast live? Tell her not to watch. She might get a panic attack.) Donya Tidora then noticed Divina looking around again. “Ano ba yang hinahanap mo?” (What are you looking for?) She was looking for Alden. Alden appeared on the other monitor again DUBsmashing “When I See You Smile”. Divina DUBsmashed back with Regine’s song “Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka”.

Alden expressed his thoughts at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode upon seeing Divina. “Alam mo grabe ka. Pag ganyan kasi ayos mo, parang pinapahirapan mo ako eh.” (You’re too much. Whenever you looked like that, you’re making it hard for me.) Divina asked why. Alden replied. “Pinapahirapan mo akong hindi tumitig sa yo.” (You’re making it hard for me not to stare at you.) Divina then asked Alden. “Gusto mo araw araw akong ganito?” (You want me to look like this everyday?) Alden found Divina beautiful just the same. “Actually, araw-araw naman eh. You’re beautiful in my eyes. Galing mo. Kanina pa ko nanonood ha?” (You are beautiful everyday. You’re great. Been watching you since awhile ago.)

ALDUB 26th Weeksary

Divina felt delighted upon learning this at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. “Talaga ba? Ano masasabi mo?” (Really? What can you say about it?) Alden gave his feedback at what he saw at the pageant. “Ibang-iba ka. Congratulations.” (You were unique.) Divina then asked about her dance. “Nakita mo yung sa talent portion? Yung sumayaw ako?” (Did you see the talent portion? The part where I danced?) Donya Tinidora’s sarcasm attacked again. “Kinakabahan ka niyan ha?” (You’re nervous, huh?)

Alden gave his feedback. “Tapos yung lakad mo? Alam mo yan oh.” (Well your walk? You know how to strut it.) Divina then walked to show off the strut that Alden liked at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. Donya Tinidora went back to her reminder though. “Konti lang, hija. Meow. Meow. Meow.” (Not too hard [on the head toss].) The meowing is how Donya Tinidora is reminded of cat bobbleheads with Divina’s head toss. But still, Divina is not appeased. “Alden, okay ba ko?” (Alden, do I look okay?) Alden then assured Divina that she looks great. “Well, actually, bago i-announce ang winner, may ia-announce pala ako. Para sa ‘kin, ikaw ang winner.” (Before the winner gets announced, I have my own announcement. For me, you’re the winner.)

Alden then brought out the bouquet that he could have sent to Divina. But the riding-in-tandem is seen nowhere at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary. So no idea if ever it gets delivered to Divina in time. It let to a decent DUBsmash exchange between Alden and Divina. Alden then waited for the DUBsmash exchange to finish before talking again. “Di ba sa mga contest, mahilig tayo magsabi ng good luck. Eto good luck ko.” (Isn’t it that we like saying good luck when it comes to contests? Here’s my good luck.) Alden then kissed Divina on the monitor.

Divina reminded Alden. “Baka nanonood si Lola.” (Granny might be watching.) Alden then apologized despite Lola Nidora’s absence. Later, Alden then proceeded to promise to Divina. “Kahit anong mangyari, andito ako para sa yo. Di man tayo magkasama ngayon, maramdaman mong special ka sa kin.” (Whatever happens, I’m here for you. We may not be together now, but you may feel that you’re special to me.) Alden and Divina then greeted each other a Happy Weeksary. [Apparently at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. The DUBsmash exchange is back.]

They then greeted the ALDUB Nation a Happy Weeksary too. Divina mentioned how far this relationship can still go. “Malayo pa ang lalakbayin natin.” (We still have a long way to go.) Alden agreed. “Malayo pa. Simula pa lang ito.” (It’s still far ahead. We’ve only just begun.) Barbara Sastre arrived in time before Divina gets carried away with the flying kisses at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary. Donya Tinidora then cracked under pressure.

Bossing Vic then tried to boost Divina’s hopes up. “Manalo matalo, taya ulit.” (Win or lose, bet again.) Boss Joey seconded the motion. “Mabuhay ang jueteng!” (Long live jueteng!) [The winner at the Sugod-Bahay errand had a Freudian slip and revealed her job as a jueteng bet collector. Jueteng is a numbers game still declared as illegal in the Philippines. Having Philippine Senator Tito present at the KalyeSerye commentary panel just made the situation a little worse for the poor winner.]

In case you see the twist coming at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode. Barbara Sastre made it possible. Bossing Vic’s comment on the pageant’s production value definitely doesn’t help. “Anong klaseng pageant yan? Iisa ang tao.” (What kind of a pageant is this? You have an audience of one.) Donya Tidora mentioned the obvious. “Kami rin ang nag-award.” (We gave the awards too.) Bossing Vic asked further. “May mga judge ba diyan?” (Do you even have judges?) Paolo didn’t break character though as Donya Tidora. “Kami rin.” (Us too.)

Cash prize for the first runner up is at Php3000 awarded by Donya Tinidora. Cash prize for the winner is at Php5000. Enough money to buy medicine. Barbara Sastre even raised the envelope for the viewers of the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode to see. There was someone dressed in a tux on standby though. And … Divina did not win. It stunned everyone else. But not as much as Divina did. Divina was visibly hurt. But she congratulated the winner anyway.

Bossing Vic reminded Divina. “Manalo matalo. Smile. Kahit pilit.” (Win or lose. Force a smile.) Donya Tinidora tried to comfort Divina too. “Okay lang yan, hija. At least nakatulong ka sa lola mo.” (It’s okay, dear. You helped your granny anyway.) Bossing Vic had to comment about the loss though at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary. “Kayo kayo na lang ang nag-award, first runner up pa?” (It’s just awarding among yourselves and she got first runner up?) Donya Tinidora even had the gall to say to the winner’s face. “Eto. Dinaan lang sa puti nito.” (Her. She just won due to her fair skin.)

A beaming voice then spoke from behind. “Excuse me.” Almost everyone fell off their seats while watching the ALDUB 26th Weeksary. Divina was so excited at seeing the Steve Harvey doppleganger. “Lola, napanood ko na ito.” (Granny, I already saw it.) Unfortunately, he only repeated what Barbara Sastre read. No mistake occurred except that of the Steve Harvey doppleganger. “Don’t take it against the ladies. It’s my mistake.” Senator Tito was half-livid, half-laughing. “Pinaasa mo pa kami.” (You made us expect.)

Divina was confused. Donya Tinidora then explained the situation to her grand-niece. “Galing pa ng Las Vegas yan. Pumunta siya rito para magkamali siya.” (He came all the way from Las Vegas. He came over just to commit a mistake.) The doppleganger went closer to the camera. It only annoyed Donya Tinidora further. “Alisin nyo nga yung kalbo diyan. Baka magulpi ko pa yan.” (Get that bald man away [from the camera]. I might get him beat up.) The bald guy spoke further. “I’m sorry. I feel badly.” [Nice parody done at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary.]

Donya Tinidora consoled Divina. “Yung tulong na ginawa mo? Yung effort na ginawa mo para sa lola mo? Malaking bagay yun.” (The help you contributed? The effort you exerted for your granny? That’s a big thing.) Donya Tinidora asked Divina to smile even just for Alden. Alden then agreed with Donya Tinidora. “Marami ka nang nasalihang contest. Pero sa lahat ng contest, isa yung winner na winner ka. Sa contest sa puso ko. Wag ka nang malungkot. Smile ka na.” (You have joined several contests already. But among all of the contests that you have joined, you are a sure winner in one. The contest to my heart. Don’t be sad. Smile now.)

Divina’s concern is Lola Nidora’s medicine since Php5000 is the cash prize. “Sana po sapat na yun para pambili ng gamot ni Lola.” (I hope it’s enough money [Php3000] to buy medicine for granny.) Donya Tinidora confirmed that it’s enough though. “Sobra sobra na yun.” (It’s actually too much.) She then prodded Steve Harvey’s doppelganger to stay to explain to Lola Nidora himself what happened at the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode’s pageant.

Overall, a cute episode that explored the sitcom potential of the KalyeSerye. What other concepts could be possibly thrown in for good measure? Tune in to Eat Bulaga. Monday to Saturday at noontime. Like Eat Bulaga’s official Facebook page to catch the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode replay.

As of the ALDUB 26th Weeksary episode, ratings are still decent. But for how long? It’s a comedy segment after all. So perhaps it meant less risque storylines like Jake and more skits like the beauty pageant parody of the 2015 Miss Universe coronation night. ALDUB The BAE is BACK [Song Tracks Included]

[ALDUB The BAE is Back Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] Earlier at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. Lola Nidora was trying to convince Donya Tinidora that she’s okay. “Ayos naman ako.” (I am okay.) Donya Tinidora is not convinced. “Akala mo lang yun.” (That’s what you thought.) She was taken to the hospital at the previous episode, ALDUB Cares. With her medication supply running out. Divina has decided to join a nearby beauty pageant to win enough cash to replenish Lola Nidora’s medicine kit.

Donya Tidora arrived with some clothes for Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB to choose for her pageant gig. Much of what she walked wasn’t seen on camera. “Naglalakad ako, walang camera.” (Been walking only to find no camera.) She was a little late claiming that she attended the premiere of Paolo Ballesteros’ latest film “Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin” (Go Further Away From Me). It is a parody of Philippine mainstream cinema.

In mentioning “Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin” at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode, she felt bad for Paolo. “Hirap na hirap si Paolo dun.” (Paolo had difficulty [shooting that movie].) Allan K then asked why. Donya Tidora explained. “Lalaki siya dun.” (He played a straight male [in the film].) Allan K then openly wondered. “Lalaki naman si Paolo di ba?” (But Paolo is male, right?) Donya Tidora was blunt enough to voice her concerns. “Ewan ko ba sa baklang yun.” (I don’t know to that confused person.)

[Note: “Bakla” is originally translated as “confused” in English. In old Filipino literature, texts that contain the line “Nababakla ako” gets translated as “I am getting confused”. With the evolution of language, “bakla” has evolved into “gay”. The word “bakla” got used in ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode because until now, everyone is still speculating whether Paolo Ballesteros is gay or not. It has also become a source of inside jokes for the KalyeSerye episodes like ALDUB The BAE is Back episode.]

Donya Tidora’s taste in clothes is impeccable. Too bad she had to source them from some funeral. It included a piece of clothing that she can’t tell if it’s a skirt or a dress. [A tube dress, maybe.] Donya Tinidora was blunt enough to complain. “Kaya pala ganyan ang amoy.” (No wonder it smelled strange.) Lola Nidora is more concerned if Donya Tidora just stole it from some random pile of clothes. “Baka mamaya, kung saan mo nakuha yan. Me humabol na pulis sa ‘yo.” (You might have gotten it from somewhere. The cops might chase you.) One of the clothes that Donya Tidora brought at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode is an outfit she called the Black Poodle.

Lola Nidora is nervous about Divina again. “Kinakabahan ako kay Divina kung nasaan na. Pag yan ninerbyos, hindi gagalaw.” (I am nervous at where Divina had been. Whenever she’s nervous, she freezes.) Donya Tidora is trying to look for an exit. Senator Tito tried to stop her. “Wala pa yung beauty queen natin.” (Our beauty queen hasn’t arrived yet.)

[Sometimes this worsened state of health mirrored Alden Richards’ real-life grandfather’s hospitalization. The ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode served as its opportunity to mirror said real-life circumstance in Alden’s life.] Lola Nidora’s words somewhat confirmed it. “Hindi na makaisip si Divina kung anong gagawin para may pambili tayo ng gamot.” (Divina is at her wits’ end on what to do just to buy some medicine.)

Donya Tidora had the clothes sorted for Divina for the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. Donya Tinidora and Lola Nidora then went to their Sugod Bahay errand. In between conversation with their latest Sugod Bahay winner. Donya Tidora is shown fixing Divina’s hair. Donya Tinidora spotted them. “Ayun! Inaayusan ng bakla.” (There [is Divina]! Getting her hair and makeup done by the gay guy.) Donya Tidora was seen chuckling without letting go of Divina’s hair.

Allan K came to Paolo’s defense. “Hindi bakla yun. Makeup artist yun.” (That’s not gay. That’s a makeup artist.) A snippet of Divina’s look at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode got everyone else excited. For now, the Kalye’s Angels have a sack of Maharlika rice courtesy of their Sugod Bahay winner’s employer. Donya Tinidora could not hold back her tears of joy.

Senator Tito then went back to Donya Tidora and Divina. “Konting ingat lang sa pagme-makeup. Baka iba maka-mukha niyan.” (Easy on the makeup. She might end up looking like someone else.) And so after the Sugod-Bahay segment. Donya Tidora presented a dry run of the look she wanted Divina to sport. Donya Tinidora begged to delay as they of Lola Nidora hasn’t returned to their spot at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. Donya Tidora just chastised her sisters. “Bilisan nyo maglakad.” (Walk faster.) Donya Tinidora blamed Lola Nidora. “Eto nga! Nagmamadali yung matandang may sakit!” (Here we are! And the sickly old hag is in a hurry!)

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

And so Divina was shown wearing a gown with a black balloon skirt, flesh top and sequins to cover the “essentials”. It was the mock beauty pageant at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode after all. She just strutted down the ramp for a few seconds. Donya Tinidora reminded her of the important ramp tidbits. “Pumipitik ang ulo. Konti lang ang pitik. Baka humiwalay yan. Yan!” (Do the swift head turn. Not too swift. Your head might separate from your body. There you go!) She was enjoying her walk at ALDUB The BAE is BACK when Alden finally appeared on the other monitor. The Broadway Centrum crowd went wild.

Alden DUBsmashed “Ikaw ang Ms. Universe ng Buhay Ko” (You Are The Ms. Universe Of My Life). Divina continued walking and then went to the gate. Donya Tinidora stopped her after she realized what Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB was trying to do at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Hoy! Hoy! Hoy! San ka pupunta?” (Where are you going?) Divina admitted what she felt. “Tatakas po. Nahihiya ako eh.” (I want to escape. I feel embarrassed.) The grannies then scolded Divina for feeling embarrassment at this point in the preparations at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode.

Since both Alden and Divina were preoccupied with the DUBsmash exchange. Alden brought out his clipboard. “Ganda mo ngayon.” (You look beautiful today.) He was DUBsmashing James Blunt’s “You’re Beautiful”. Divina responded with her own clipboard message. “Ngayon lang?” (Just now?) Alden then corrected his statement. “Always.” He then DUBsmashed True Faith’s “Dahil Ikaw”. Divina replied through her clipboard at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Maliit na bagay.” (A little thing [to fuss over].)

Alden then reached to his microphone at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Hello, Ms. Universe.” Divina greeted back. “Hello. Kumusta ka na? Pumapayat ka na.” (How are you? You’re losing weight.) Everyone else then picked on Alden’s weight loss. Alden had a ready reply for that. “Nagpapaganda lang po ng katawan.” (I’m just trying to improve my physique.) Everyone then speculated if he’s in the pageant too. Alden said no. He then asked the grannies. “Kumain na po kayo?” (Have you eaten?) Donya Tinidora answered in behalf of the grannies. “Di pa luto ang bigas eh.” (The rice has yet to be cooked.)

Being a veteran in the pageant scene. Alden then threw a question for the aspiring beauty queen. “May tanong ako sa yo, Ms. Universe. Ako rin ba ang Mr. Universe ng buhay mo?” (I have a question, Ms. Universe. Am I the Mr. Universe in your life?) Divina then replied. “Siempre. Tagal kitang hinintay.” (Of course. I’ve waited for you for so long.) Alden had a minor tongue slip in this part of ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Parang di naman tayo nagkita kahapon.” (As if we didn’t see each other yesterday.) Divina then tried to remind Alden. “Wag kang maingay.” (Tone down your voice.) Lola Nidora heard that and glared her eyes at Alden. Alden tried to appease Lola Nidora by saying “Joke lang po”. (Just kidding.)

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Once appeased, Lola Nidora then agreed with Divina’s observation at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Tama nga si Divina. Pumapayat ka. Natutulog ka pa ba?” (Divina is right. You are losing weight. Do you even sleep?) Alden said yes. When asked if he even had time for workout, he displayed a few push-ups and ab crunches. Donya Tidora found it odd for Alden to workout at this time. “Naka-maong ka pag nagwo-workout?” (You’re wearing denims when working out?) Donya Tinidora asked what should be the right outfit. Donya Tidora said that it should be shorts. Alden stopped to express how much she missed the De Explorer entourage. “Iba pa rin po pag kasama kayo.” (It’s still different when I’m with you.)

Lola Nidora understood the need for Alden to work. “Gusto ko marami pa kayong maranasan. Kasi yung mga kapitbahay namin diyan. Andaming chismis.” (I want both of you to experience everything. The main problem is our neighbors. They gossip too much.) [As of ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode, Alden’s grandfather’s condition has stabilized.] Alden and Divina then made up for lost time. Though it’s back to split-screen mode. Alden managed to kiss Divina on the forehead. Divina then DUBsmashed Meghan Trainor’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”.

Lola Nidora saw the kisses exchanged. She glared at Alden again. Alden then again tried to appease Lola Nidora at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Lola, joke lang po. Kayo po talaga ang kini-kiss ko.” (Granny, just kidding. You’re really the one that I’m trying to kiss.) Lola Nidora just changed the topic instead. “Natatandaan mo ba yung size ko?” (Do you remember my [shoe] size?) Alden did. “8 and a half? Opo, lola.” Apparently, Lola Nidora had some requests to be bought at Dubai. That got Bossing Vic remembering his requests to Alden too.

After the pleasantries and the requests. Divina went back to polishing her catwalk. Donya Tinidora went back to her instructions. “Konti lang ang pitik. Baka magka-stiff neck ka, hija.” (Don’t turn too hard. You might get some stiff neck, dear.) Donya Tidora took the aggressive route though. “Lakasan mo para tamaan ang kalaban mo.” (Turn your head hard enough to hit your competitor.) Donya Tidora’s fierce approach to beauty pageants surfaced at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode.

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Donya Tidora wanted to make sure that Divina gets trained at the question-and-answer portion. Alden is willing to role-play as pageant judge, being a veteran of the beauty pageant circuit himself as revealed in the Alden Richards Birthday Bash episode. But first, he went to the dressing room to wear a blazer. He’d like to look the part at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode.

Senator Tito thought Alden might take it easy on Divina at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Baka world peace lang ang itanong mo ha?” (You might just ask her about world peace.) Alden then went into role play mode. “Candidate number 1. How do you feel?” Divina answered in one of Maine’s DUBsmash hits. “I don’t feel any pressure right now.”

Now comes the “contest proper”. The mock Q&A at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode started with Alden’s question. “Candidate number 1. Here’s my question. There’s been various discussions about the pros and cons of social media and how it affects today’s youth. Here’s my question, candidate number 1. Makinig ka. Na-miss mo ba ako?” (Listen up. Did you miss me?)

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Divina was taken aback with the question that she wasn’t oriented for. “Bakit ganun yung tanong?” (Why is that the question?) Alden repeated the question to show that he’s serious. “You have 30 seconds to answer the question. Na-miss mo ba ako?” (Did you miss me?) Donya Tinidora had another concern though. “Magagalit yung mga kalaban. Baka sabihin, luto agad.” (The other competitors might get angry. They might say there are some shenanigans.) The pressure for Divina just increased tenfold at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode.

Divina took awhile to recover from the unexpected question. Upon mustering enough breath and guts, she answered the question at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Thank you for that very wonderful question. I do believe that social media can be an effective tool in teaching today’s youth. As long as we know it’s dangers and limitations. Pero yes, Mr. Richards. I missed you. I thank you.”

Donya Tidora was seen cheering behind Divina for her great answer. “Very good.” Alden himself was very satisfied. “Very good. Very nice.” Donya Tidora reminded Divina about her posture at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Chest out! Chest out!” Divina obeyed albeit it looked awkward for her. Donya Tinidora can’t help but notice it. “Ampanget naman. Naka-chest out.” (Chest out looks bad [on her].) Donya Tidora justified her teachings to Divina. “Ganun talaga sa beauty pageant.” (That’s really how it goes at the beauty pageant.) Donya Tinidora insisted that it doesn’t look good. “Para namang pato.” (She looked like a duck.)

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Lola Nidora thought more of Divina’s smile. “Dapat mag-practice ka, Divina. Dapat yung smile mo, hindi yung nanginginig na ganyan.”(You should practice, Divina. Your smile should be something that doesn’t look shaky like that.) She even found the strength at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode to stand up and remind Divina to fix it.

Alden then shifted his next question. He’s the only judge at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. So he ends up facilitating the next questions too. “Okay, candidate number 1. After talking about social media, let’s talk about national issues. What is your ideal man?” Divina tried to laugh off her nerves while grasping for answers. “Oh my God. I will fall for a man not just for his good looks. But for his good heart. I like a man who can make me feel special. Who will spend time with me. Who will make me his number 1 priority. Someone who cries when he’s sad. Someone who can make me smile. Someone who can dream with me. Someone who will hold my hand when I’m happy or sad.”

Divina then tried to cut to the chase. “But of course, my ideal man is 5’10 in height. Maputi tapos may dimple sa kaliwang pisngi. Yung nakarating ng Dubai. At yung nakarating na sa Japan. Ganun. May pangalan ding Richards. Ganun.” (He’s fair-skinned with a dimple on his left cheek. Someone who’s been to Dubai. And to Japan too. Like that. He has “Richards” on his name too.) Donya Tinidora criticized her grand-niece’s inability to be direct at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Ba’t di nyo pa dinirechong siya yung gusto mo? Ang dami mo pang sinabi.” (Why didn’t you tell him directly that you like him? You talked too much.)

ALDUB The BAE is BACK

Lola Nidora kept standing the moment she sensed the direction that the mock Q&A is going. Alden then went for his follow-up question. [Because he’s the only one anyway that can do the mock Q&A at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode.] “Sasagutin mo na ba ako?” (Are you going to answer me now?) Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora had to remind Lola Nidora to stay calm. Divina glanced at Lola Nidora. “That is a very hard question. Oh my God. My family … My family …” Lola Nidora finished Divina’s sentence. “…will get mad.” Divina then echoed Lola Nidora. “My family will get mad.”

Donya Tinidora asked the obvious in case Alden can vouch for himself. “Question and answer ba ito o ligawan?” (Is this Q&A or courtship?) Alden then DUBsmashed Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud”. Divina then DUBsmashed Donna Cruz’s “Isang Tanong Isang Sagot”. [By this time, it’s a little obvious how OPM songs are usually from Viva Records. Usually. There are some exceptions that you will notice once you watch the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode replay.]

Lola Nidora then took the opportunity to interrupt by addressing him by his other name. “Richard, para-paraan ka.” (Richard, you find ways.) Alden then backtracked. “Joke lang po, lola.” (Just kidding, granny.) Lola Nidora emphasized her authority over Divina at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Di puedeng joke yun. Gawin mo yan dito sa tahanan namin.” (You don’t kid around with something like that. Do it here in our house.) Donya Tinidora had to remind Lola Nidora. “Problema, wala tayong bahay. Palipat-lipat tayo.” (The problem is we don’t have a house.) Lola Nidora then remembered that painful truth.

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Lola Nidora then talked to Divina. “Para-paraan si Richard sa iyo ano?” (Richard finds ways towards you, doesn’t he?) Divina agreed. Alden went “Luh luh luh luh luh” upon hearing this. Donya Tinidora didn’t take it lightly though. “Kala nagbibiro ka, ate.” (He must have thought you’re kidding around.) Lola Nidora then stood her ground. “Hindi ako nagbibiro.” (I am not kidding around.) She had to shut up for awhile to capture Alden’s attention. Donya Tinidora walked away for awhile in the middle of Lola Nidora’s awkward silence. “Aalis muna ako. Kinakabahan ako kay Lola.” (I need to leave first. I’m nervous about granny.)

One Alden has sat still, Lola Nidora answered the question away from Divina. Alden then behaved. But kept on his other follow up question. “Puede po ba kaming mag-date sa Saturday?” (May I take her out on a date on Saturday?) “Ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for that wonderful question. I believe the children are our future. If you are asking for a date on Saturday …” Because it took awhile for Lola Nidora to answer the question at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. Donya Tidora finished her sentence. “I don’t have any problem with that at all. Thank you. Ganun! Ganun ang sagot!” (That’s how you should answer!)

Lola Nidora snapped back at Donya Tidora. “Tinapos mo naman yung question! Gusto mo na namang sumama eh.” (You finished the question abruptly! You just want to tag along!) Lola Nidora turned her attention back to Alden. “Pag-iisipan ko.” (I’d think about it.) Divina then begged her. “Lola, monthsary po namin.” (Granny, that’s our monthsary.)

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

Alden seconded the motion at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. “Opo, lola. Sige na po.” (Yes, granny. Please let us.) Lola Nidora didn’t like both Alden and Divina asking simultaneously. “Sige. Pagtulungan nyo ako. Kahit monthsary, pagiisipan ko. That’s all. Ayoko ng joke-joke.” (Go ahead. Conspire against me. Even if it’s your monthsary, I’d think about it. No more jokes about it.)

Donya Tinidora agreed with Lola Nidora. Later she asked Alden. “Anong oras kayo aalis sa Sabado?” (What time will you leave by Saturday?) Lola Nidora, already sitting down, stood up upon hearing Donya Tinidora. “Pumayag na ba ako?” (Did I allow them already?) It was Donya Tinidora’s turn to sit down. Lola Nidora then went back to business at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. She mentioned Divina’s decision to join the Miss Barangay pageant. “Puede naman sigurong wala nang talent portion. Baka matalo tayo eh.” (I think we can forego the talent portion. We might lose.)

Donya Tidora disagreed. “Talented kaya yang si YayaDUB.” (Nanny DUB is talented.) They then prompted her to sing. Donya Tinidora advised her. “Dapat yung emotional ka. Yung dama mo.” (You have to be emotional. Feel it.) Divina was trying to sound like Jaya though. “Yung pang-platinum po, lola?” (The platinum record kind of song, granny?) The grannies egged her on. She then tried singing Regine Velasquez’s version of “On The Wings of Love”. [Primetime soaps from ABS-CBN ended up getting free “exposure” at the ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. 2 songs “Pangako Sa Yo” and “On The Wings of Love” ended up getting DUBsmashed and sung here.]

Divina then tried to switch back to her DUBsmash skits. One was the Busta Rhymes DUBsmash stint. The other was her DUBsmash of the Jim Carrey clip from the Hollywood film “Bruce Almighty”. Lola Nidora had another idea. “Gawin na lang niya yung pancit pancit.” (Let her do the pancit declamation piece instead.) She was referring to one of the signature skits in their other segment, Eat Bulaga’s Little Miss Philippines.

But since there is no plastic bag of pancit to use as props. Donya Tinidora went with letting her sack of rice used as substitute prop. Lola Nidora then lay on the wooden sofa onsite to play dead. This skit is almost a staple for contestants of Little Miss Philippines to show their dramatic prowess. Talent requirements would usually include singing, dancing or acting. Hence, Lola Nidora’s concern at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode.

ALDUB The BAE is BACK
Source: Eat Bulaga Facebook Page

And so Divina carried the sack of rice while wearing a gown at ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode. She already knew the lines having seen this skit several times on Eat Bulaga herself. “Lola, lola, eto na po yung bigas. Lola … Ano po nangyari sa inyo? Andito na po yung bigas?” (Granny, granny, the rice is here. Granny …. What happened to you? The rice is already here.) She was at the height of her skit when the truck horn already honked off. Signifying the end of ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode.

Characters are already in freeze mode. But Boss Joey suggested putting the sack of rice on top of Lola Nidora. Would these talents secure a win for Divina at Miss Barangay 2016? Tune in to Eat Bulaga. Monday to Saturday at noontime. Like Eat Bulaga’s official Facebook page to catch ALDUB The BAE is BACK episode replay.

ALDUB Nation Ready: Is the ALDUB Nation Ready?

[ALDUB Nation Ready Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] Is the ALDUB Nation Ready? Article delays, a flood of test papers and several editorials later, here I am with another editorial concerning ALDUB. Perhaps a way to voice out opinions. It may be another interruption with your stream of episode recaps that I constantly post here ar The Philippines Web. But soon enough I know that I need to share my insights regarding the next “civil war” that erupted online. [Also, being a home-writer meant being constantly “inuutusan ng magulang”. That is a sure time killer.]

ALDUB Nation Ready
Source: @johnaron14

Don’t worry. I still plan on making episode recaps on the episodes that involved “Jake”. Because I know someone needs to archive the memories and translate some of the transcribed dialogue for the non-Filipino inhabitants of the ALDUB Nation. So let’s take the time to discuss creativity involved in the recent KalyeSerye episodes. Despite knowing that KalyeSerye is originally intended to be a problem solving segment that mixed sarcasm and parodies of self-help advice columns, some viewers like Randy David wished less of the slapstick in the story. Almost everyone else followed suit. Forgetting that the KalyeSerye is a segment in a variety show whose content leaned heavily towards comedy. Is the ALDUB Nation ready to add some “realness” to the plot?

The other clout to add “realness” into the story was based on a joke on Alden Richards himself. Ever since that episode where Bossing Vic Sotto’s son, Vico, made a cameo. ADN has seen how “cute” Alden looked like whenever he’s jealous. Whether it’s just for kicks of if he’s genuinely jealous, the ALDUB Nation lapped it up and kept on chiding Alden on social media. Like imagine if Alden is jealous for real. It must have been a lot more difficult to keep it in. So fans got an idea what to suggest next to Ms. Jenny Ferre, head writer of the KalyeSerye? Is the ALDUB Nation ready for a third wheel that either YayaDUB or Alden genuinely liked?

Time to answer the question based on the Twitter wars that followed. No. I had to spend sometime muting certain individuals on Twitter again. They got too carried away with what they are watching. They ended up attacking even Maine Mendoza herself and her family. I haven’t seen any tweets of them attacking even her family. Either they are bots, paid attack dogs from the ALDUB Demolition Team or some cowards who only found courage by using alternate Twitter handles. Possibly all of the above. But is the ALDUB Nation Ready for a spicy third wheel angle if some inhabitants of the ALDUB Nation itself are immature to know reel from real?

ALDUB Nation Ready
Source: @DMITRYisaGOD

Surely, some of the netizens that complained about the events that transpired at the KalyeSerye are fans of Showtime. So what? It means that even if they are fans of Showtime, they watch Eat Bulaga too. I know some netizens on PinoyExchange.com who have started a “loyalty check” by using ALDUB as basis. That was the first thing that came to mind when a “loyalty check” occurred online too. Some netizens like @thefilipinospec ended up posting tweets that really started critiquing on some ADN citizens’ tendency to pounce at any available opportunity whether justified or not. Can’t people have opinions anymore regarding the current storyline?

Well I admit that I am partially responsible for the hypocritical view on Lola Nidora. Especially during her beast mode days before her worst nightmares in Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora arrived. Her sisters arrived obviously to drive Lola Nidora to paranoia and cure her clingy tendencies of YayaDUB. I know. I know. I’m still not totally buying the “tamang panahon” alibi. I still occasionally view her as some overprotective and possessive relative with trust issues. Sometimes the Jake angle is a ploy to disprove my hypothesis. Alden seeks friendship and more from YayaDUB. Lola Nidora loses her sh*t. Jake becomes a little too friendly for comfort for YayaDUB. And she’s fine. She even delivered that infamous speech at the ALDUB Trust episode.

ALDUB Nation Ready
Source: @dondelarea1969

Di naman puedeng si Alden, may mundo. Tapos itong si Divina, ikakandado natin. Pag-isipan muna mabuti. Pag walang basehan, parang anay yan. Hindi nyo namamalayan, may bukbok na.

(It can’t be that Alden has his world. And Divina would be locked up here [with us]. Think carefully. You judge Divina without seeing any evidence. Bigtime! You are harsh on her! Divina goes to school. Is that a bad thing? You should not stunt Divina’s progress. Her life does not revolve around Alden alone. How will she progress if all you ever did is judge her? Because I am hurt whenever you claim that Divina is flirting around. I was strict with Divina because I didn’t know where [the relationship] will go. If you can’t trust, it’s not called love. Love comes with trust. If there is no basis [for the prejudicial behavior], it’s like a termite [that eats up on the foundation of the relationship]. The foundation has gone hollow before you know it.)

ALDUB Nation Ready

Is the ALDUB Nation ready when some overzealous fans [and haters, too] interpret this message negatively? No. How can the ALDUB Nation be ready when judgments occur before the evidences surface? Take note. Everyone including those who consider themselves “thinking ALDUB fans” are miffed with this speech. As if there is some sacred cow to consider before opening your mouth. Or posting status updates on social media. It’s not just Twitter anymore even if Twitter has become the battleground for the social media wars that erupted due to Jake’s impending arrival.

The ALDUB Nation is not ready for Jake. Frankly, I was harsh on Cindy. [Sorry, Cindy.] It was only in due time that it was revealed that all that brazen attitude is done under the orders of Donya Babah. But is the ALDUB Nation ready for her in case she is not acting under the orders of Donya Babah? Again no. If some overzealous fans of the ALDUB Nation went batsh*t crazy at Jake’s calls to Divina even before Alden has left for Dubai, who else will be ready for the realistic storyline? The slapstick-free storyline that Prof. Randy David once proposed in his column?

That’s when the purpose of the KalyeSerye proved its purpose to mainstream media. To raise the question again. Is the ALDUB Nation ready for a third wheel that is more Vince-Kath level than teleserye level complete with canceled weddings? No. Why? Because ALDUB was placed on a pedestal where the fans expect them to be with each other and each other only. The lines between real and reel are blurred. And most of us would want the ALDUB tandem to evolve into the MAIDEN (Maine and Alden) tandem. Some even went to the extent of comparing them to DongYan (Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera). Not realizing that it took 7 years and various team-ups with other actors and actresses before The DongYan Wedding.

ALDUB Nation Ready
Source: @EB_HagdanKS

Lola Nidora may not have mentioned the DongYan wedding in comparison to ALDUB. But she mentioned career growth – the possibility of YayaDUB and Alden having careers outside the relationship. The need for career growth was already addressed in the EB Dabarkads Pa More episode. Especially now that Maine Mendoza is still under attack for the Best Supporting Actress Award. [Anong petsa na ba? Hindi na sila natapos.]

Alden has proven his acting mettle long before the ALDUB phenomenon. Maine Mendoza on the other hand just celebrated her 6th month in the entertainment industry recently. So the pressure on her to prove her worth after the win was immense. Overzealous fans that demand for better projects for ALDUB just made the pressure more intense.

Is the ALDUB Nation ready to stay together and be strong for the rest of the inhabitants who wished nothing but the best for ALDUB? I can see that it can. Great civilizations get destroyed from within if the influencers, movers and shakers let them. This is why I consider one of the best moves ever to see Maine Mendoza apologize to Julie Ann San Jose.

ALDUB Nation Ready
Source: PhilStar.com

It is Maine Mendoza’s proof that a few overzealous fans’ erratic behavior does not represent the ALDUB Nation as a whole. And of course, such negative behavior is not tolerated by her. Surely, she tweets without tagging anyone lately. But she didn’t have to explain herself to anyone when they already have judged you in their minds. Prejudice brings the worst out in some people.

Alden already had it worse. He’s been in the industry for 7 years. Or more if you include the years when he did the beauty pageant rounds. And he has survived his share of haters. From viewers skeptical of his versatility to certain fan clubs accusing him of being a user and a bandwagon rider. To users themselves that capitalize on his newfound fame as of late. Practically that has been anyone toxic to his career and personal life. And the ALDUB phenomenon only fueled his workaholic ethic even more. He’s striking while the iron is hot knowing that his 15 minutes of fame might get used up again. For now, it’s a far-fetched idea. But this recent Twitter war proved how some overzealous fans are making it harder for Jenny Ferre et al to extend the 15 minutes of fame further.

Is the ALDUB Nation ready for career growth? What do I mean? Is the ALDUB Nation ready for a storyline that features Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza plus a third wheel who’s not a villain but an actual option for either of them? That’s when the maturity of a fandom is tested. Because we simply need to remember something about Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza outside the KalyeSerye universe. He is an actor. She is an actress. Alden is playing the fictional version of himself at the KalyeSerye. While Maine plays YayaDUB in the KalyeSerye. What if Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB discovers the world outside now that the mansion is gone?

ALDUB Nation Ready
Source: @MaineAlden16

Applying realism in TV series can be scary. People watch you because it’s the closest thing they have to their ideal definition of love. Is the ALDUB Nation ready to breakaway from that make-believe world? [Aktingan lang ‘to uy!] Because in real life, not all of them have their own “Alden” and “YayaDUB” in tow. Sometimes, they’re like Jake. Others are like Frankie [for girls] and Cindy [for guys]. Each one has its own set of overprotective parents like Lola Nidora and supportive relatives and friends like Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora. But for the most part, having your own Alden or YayaDUB is not a guarantee in real life. So when art via KalyeSerye starts imitating life, everybody loses their minds. Why? Because a realistic relationship is disappointing. Especially when you set yourself up for high expectations.

So if some inhabitants of the ALDUB Nation are in a relationship with cheaters, they don’t want that kind of drama at the KalyeSerye too. It becomes awkward and difficult to face. Because if you don’t like what you see on TV, you simply shut if off. In real life, if you catch your boyfriend or girlfriend in the arms of another, you can’t shut that thing off your head. Would the prominent inhabitants of ALDUB Nation ready to face that harsh reality?

It’s painful. It drives you deeper down in the abyss of depression. You lose the “kilig”. Realism takes over. And the inconvenient truth prevails. This is why some netizens end up tweeting [rephrased] “I don’t want this kind of drama. If I do, I’d watch Pangako Sa Yo or On The Wings of Love.” So in other words, the writers headed by Ms. Jenny Ferre end up getting stuck in a rut of a FANarchy-based creativity. Is ALDUB Nation ready to see their frustrations in relationships in the KalyeSerye itself?

ALDUB Nation Ready

On the other hand, is the ALDUB Nation ready for “realistic storylines” and “better character development”? Yes. This is why some inhabitants of the ALDUB Nation end up writing better stories on Wattpad or Facebook Notes. Because there are times when they have these plots in mind to make the story extra interesting and it doesn’t happen. It’s like what caused all of these Star Wars fan fiction and fan edit movies because in their mind, they have better concepts for the Star Wars franchise. In case some fan fiction writers in the ALDUB Nation thought about writing about ALDUB, is it a guarantee that Ms. Jenny Ferre et al would snap these concepts up? No. But no doubt that ALDUB spurned the creative juices of everyone that saw it. ALDUB Nation Ready Now?

Interested to know what Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza had to say on this? Is the ALDUB Nation ready in case they already saw it. Try not to overread their tweets in case you follow them at @aldenrichards02 and @mainedcm. Also, tune in to Eat Bulaga. Mondays to Saturdays at noontime. Like Eat Bulaga’s official Facebook page to catch last week’s ALDUB Kalyeserye episode replays.

There are episodes that I still plan to recap alongside the newer ones. But you never know when. So might as well like our official Facebook page, The Philippines Web. And follow us on Twitter @pinasamazing. Why do I still have to look back at them once in awhile? Because I realized that I end up covering even the little details. Namely side comments by the Kalye’s Angels that often get ignored. Feedback, comments and violent reactions are more than welcome at the aforementioned social media accounts. We’d be expecting you.

ALDUB Complicated: Respeto Naman

[ALDUB Complicated Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] The ALDUB Complicated episode  resumes with the PKA – Pasisikatin Kita Agency. Donya Tinidora clearly knew what needs to be done to differentiate her talents from the SPOGIFY finalists. And this is through PKA’s talent search  SFRANKIEFY. Named after their patron, YayaDUB’s ex-fiance Frankie Arenolli. [Click here to read why.]

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

Most of the PKA recruits have questionable appearances. Personality? Not sure if being compared to one of the members of [in]famous local boyband Hasht5 is what you may call personality. Then again it’s consistent with PKA’s subtext. And it was reiterated at the ALDUB Complicated episode. “Hindi sigurado. Subukan mo. Walang mawawala sa yo.” (Not sure. Try it. There is nothing to lose.) So as long as you have the guts and the talent, never mind the looks. Donya Tidora reiterated how singing would make the audience give these contestants a second look only to look away again.

The appearances also unleashed Donya Tinidora’s sarcasm again. “Pag mahal yung bag, agawin mo agad ha?” (If the bag is pricey, snatch it away quickly.) Their goal at the ALDUB Complicated episode is to establish a talent agency. But their recruits looked like thieves and robbers from gangster movies. Also, Donya Tinidora reminded them to be ready for Frankie. “Ang producer namin dito ay si Frankie. Kaya dapat pag-uwi nun, handa kayo.” (Our producer is Frankie. So once he returns, you’d be ready.)

The SFRANKIEFY is a subliminal approach to plugging the Grand Finals for Eat Bulaga’s SPOGIFY. As of the ALDUB Complicated episode, Donya Tinidora’s antihero approach to recruiting talents started on the wrong foot. But he’s optimistic. “Ang kailangan ay tibay ng loob at merong kapal ng mukha.” (You need guts and a thick face.) Bossing Vic tried to be neutral in his observations on this new batch of recruits. “Ano ‘to? Parang nahihiya.” (What gives? As if they’re embarrassed.) Donya Tinidora and Donya Tidora knew that once PKA gains full steam, one of their first clients is Bossing Vic Sotto’s company, M-Zet Productions.

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

The PKA recruits for the ALDUB Complicated episode were already briefed for the telecast. Donya Tinidora asked one of them of his dream role. He introduced himself as Ruben. He then mentioned how he’d like to be an action star. When Donya Tinidora asked him of his talent, he said. “Kakanta po.” (I will sing.) He didn’t bring his own mic though. Neither Donya Tidora nor Donya Tinidora would like to lend their mics. [One of the backstage crew handed them an extra mic.] How many days would the PKA talent search go if they don’t even have enough mics on hand?

The song Ruben sang was also the same song he sang at the ALDUB New Journey episode. James Ingram’s “Just Once”. This time, they had a minus one track playing in the background. So perhaps there’s hope in ALDUB Complicated episode. Also, Ruben can sing well. Way better than some of the SPOGIFY contestants, truth be told. That’s when Donya Tinidora’s game plan was solidified. “Clap your hands and close your eyes.”

Donya Tinidora is proud of the first performer. “Pan-TV kayo. Pang-radio kami. Mina-manage ito para sa radyo.” (You [SPOGIFY finalists] are for TV. We [SFRANKIEFY talents] are for radio. We’re managing them for radio.) Indeed the perfect face for radio. It led to a minor sing-off between the SPOGIFY finalists and the SFRANKIEFY recruits at the ALDUB Complicated episode. Too bad the contestants that followed Ruben aren’t as talented as him. Since Lola Nidora and YayaDUB hasn’t arrived yet, the ALDUB Complicated episode cut to a commercial break.

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

In between the commercial break and resuming to the ALDUB Complicated episode. Eat Bulaga showed an update of the beneficiaries of the fund-raising event entitled ALDUB EB Tamang Panahon. Several schools were showed finally getting their ALDUB Library buildings constructed.

The PKA talent search at the ALDUB Complicated episode resumed. Donya Tinidora and Donya Tidora encountered audio problems. Bossing Vic was scrutinizing the next talent when an SUV horn was heard on the background. It was Lola Nidora, YayaDUB and the Rogelio Rogelio Rogelio. One of the Rogelio pushed the pedal on the pedicab. One Rogelio was behind hanging on. And YayaDUB hung on the side. Lola Nidora came out to complain about the noise.

Divina a.k.a. YayaDUB didn’t think the PKA talent search at the ALDUB Complicated episode was necessary. “Wag na po kayong maghanap, lola. Meron naman po tayong Rogelio eh.” (No need to look, granny. We already have Rogelio.) Donya Tinidora found Rogelio too big of a mouth to feed as a talent. “Lakas lumamon ni Rogelio.” (Rogelio ate too much.) Also, his singing repertoire is limited to Freddie Aguilar’s “Ipaglalaban Ko” (I Will Fight For You).

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

The ALDUB New Journey episode ended on a bad note. Lola Nidora got concerned and asked Divina. “Okay na ba kayo ni Alden?” (Are okay of Alden now?) Divina hasn’t patched things up with Alden. “Di pa po eh.” (Not yet.) The grannies then asked how does Jake look like. Divina compared Jake’s appearance with the SPOGIFY finalists. “Pogi po yun, matalino.” (He’s handsome, intelligent.) She liked Jake’s business-minded attitude. Donya Tinidora didn’t think of as good. “Delikado tayo diyan.” (This is awkward.)

Divina also liked how considerate Jake is. “Pag may bahay na tayo, baka puede na tayong pahatid.” (Once we got our own house, maybe he can drive us home.) Donya Tinidora tried changing the topic. “Naku! Si Alden kahapon, iba ang pakiramdam ha?” (Oh my! Yesterday, Alden felt strange.) Divina then appealed to Alden at the ALDUB Complicated episode. “Alden? Alden, wag ka nang magalit. Kaklase ko lang yun.” (Please don’t be upset. He’s just my classmate.) Sam YG was still trying to knock inside the CR. He locked himself there at the ALDUB New Journey episode.

Divina was still calling out to Alden when Donya Tinidora tried to resume the PKA talent search at the ALDUB Complicated episode. Divina turned around and saw Alden with his gifts. It was unexpected for him to show up in person. It was only Tuesday. Donya Tinidora then suspected if there’s a shortcut from the CR to their current barangay assignment. “May connecting flight ba? Teka. Baka may daan sa host room ‘to ha?” (Is there a connecting flight? Wait. This might have a path from the host room.) Alden brought flowers and a box of cake to them.

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

Divina then asked the obvious to Alden. “Hindi mo naman sinabing pupunta ka? Tatampo ka?” (You didn’t say that you’d come over. Are you upset?) Alden had a different reason for locking himself up at the CR. “Hindi ibig sabihin nun, nagtatampo na ko. Di ba puedeng nasira lang ang tiyan ko? Ipapakita ko on national TV?” (It doesn’t mean, that I am upset. Can it be simply because of an upset stomach? You want me show that on national TV?) He explained further at the ALDUB Complicated episode. “Gusto ko pong humabol. Kaso bumusina na.” (I’d like to catch up on you. But the horn already sounded off.)

Lola Nidora felt relieved. “Kala namin, Alden, lumayas ka na. Ito naman kasing si Tinidora, asyumera.” (We thought you have ran away. The problem with Tinidora is that she assumes too quickly.) Divina tried to know how Alden felt. “Hindi ka nagselos?” (Didn’t you get jealous?) Alden can’t lie to Divina at the ALDUB Complicated episode. “Nagselos. Siempre. Kung kausapin mo yung lalaking yun, parang special.” (I got jealous. Of course. You talk to that guy as if he’s special.)

Divina insisted that Jake is just a classmate. Alden then went asking Divina. “Binibigyan ka ba ng flowers? Binibigyan ka ba ng cake?” (Does he give you flowers? Does he give you cake?)Donya Tinidora even told Alden what Divina said about driving them home. It made Alden hesitate on telling Divina about the reason behind the sudden visit. But he sent out a message to Jake. “Kung nanonood ka ngayon, Jake. Abangan mo ako ha?” (If you are watching now, Jake. Watch out for me, alright?)

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

But Alden went on to tell her anyway. “Wag kang magagalit ha? Wala ako sa Thursday.” (Please don’t be angry. I won’t be around by Thursday.) Divina was shocked. But at least Alden had time to tell her he’s leaving for an out-of-town gig as early as the ALDUB Complicated episode. [An obvious solution to the negative reaction brought by Alden’s trip to Japan. He missed several episodes including the EB Dabarkads Pa More episode.]

Alden continued. “Kahit Tuesday pa lang makapag-usap tayo.” (I want us to talk as early as Tuesday.) Donya Tinidora asked Alden. “Puede buksan yung cake?” (May we open the cake now?) Food really had been hard to come by for the Kalye’s Angels. They were almost oblivious to the simmering awkwardness between Alden and Divina. Alden let them so he can talk to Divina in private at the ALDUB Complicated episode.

Alden invited Divina to a cart of street food to share with her. He really prepared the advanced weeksary celebration at the ALDUB Complicated episode. Divina then asked Alden. “Tusukin ko yung gusto ko ha?” (I’d poke what I want, okay?) Alden agreed. Divina did what she said. She poked Alden with the fishball stick. The Kalye’s Angels, on the other hand, ate the “chocolate mouse”. [Not everyone can say the cake’s name right, hihihi.] Soon even Bossing Vic is in the joke. He asked the next Sugod Bahay winner. “Hello? Andyan ba si Jake? Joke lang!” (Is Jake there? [Alden’s eyes go fierce.] Just kidding. [Alden’s face ends up copying Lola Nidora’s expression at the ALDUB Complicated episode upon saying ‘Joke lang’.])

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

After the Sugod-Bahay errand, the Kalye’s Angels found Alden and Divina having a heart-to-heart talk off the record. Alden let everyone hear a part of it though. “Lunes babalik ako.” (I’d be back by Monday.) Divina couldn’t believe it. “Lunes? Ang tagal nun, Alden!” (Monday? That’s a long time!) Alden justified his almost-week-long absence. “Mga ilang araw lang yun. Yung ngang ibang nagmamahalan …?” (It would only be a few days. Other lovers …)

Allan K can’t help but react upon hearing this. “Nagmamahalan na ba?” (Are you now lovers?) They still have difficulty answering the question “Kayo na ba? Ba’t di kayo makasagot?” (Are you an item now? How come you can’t answer?) It was a retort to Alden’s earlier statement that got cut off. “Kaya ka ba niyang mahal ….?” (Can he [Jake] love …. ?) So it’s still a case of “Are they or aren’t they?” hence the official hashtag of ALDUB Complicated.

ALDUB Complicated
Source: Eat Bulaga YouTube Channel

Of course, Lola Nidora heard it when Allan K pointed it out. “Anong mahal?” (What love?) Alden backtracked. “Lola, joke lang.” (Granny, it’s just a joke.) It appeased Lola Nidora all over again at the ALDUB Complicated episode. Divina expressed her concern. “Baka makalimutan mo na ko ah? Kapag nandun ka na.” (You might forget me once you get there.) Alden made a promise to Divina though. “Hindi mangyayari yun. Gagawa ako ng paraang magkasama tayo.” (It won’t happen. I’d make a way for us to be together.)

With Lola Nidora’s sudden mood swings. Bossing Vic Sotto has suspected her mental health. “Si Lola, parang nagfi-flip na.” (Granny’s starting to lose it.) Alden made Divina promise one thing. “Basta wag mo akong kakalimutan.” (Just don’t forget me.) Divina found Alden so sweet. While the relationship is not yet official at the ALDUB Complicated episode. Alden has started saving up for their future.

Divina agreed on that future as she prepared for it too. “Tingnan mo naman ang mga regalo ko sa yo. Pitsel tapos pan.” (Look at my gifts for you. A pitcher and a frying pan.) Donya Tidora thought of what Divina’s next gift should be. “Susunod na iregalo mo, plantsa.” (Your next gift should be a flat iron.) Donya Tinidora and Lola Nidora just made requests to Alden. “Ikumusta mo rin ako sa mga dabarkads natin dun. Mag-iingat ka dun, Alden. Uwian mo ko ng bonsai cactus.” (Send my regard to our dabarkads there. Be safe. And take home a bonsai cactus for me.)

ALDUB Complicated

Later at the ALDUB Complicated episode. Lola Nidora’s phone rang. “Hello? Di ito si Divina. Yung Jake.” (This is not Divina. [Passes the phone to Divina.] That guy Jake.) Allan K can’t help but exclaim. “Respeto naman oh!” (Some damn respect please!) Bossing Vic felt a little miffed himself in behalf of Alden. Alden himself is on the brink of going beast mode. Divina talked to Jake over the phone with half her back turned to Alden.

Supposedly, they are just talking about schoolwork. Later, Alden overheard what Divina told Jake. “Pareho tayo ng taste sa music.” (We have the same taste in music.) Incidents like these are really ill-timed at the ALDUB Complicated episode. It made Alden worry more about leaving. He didn’t interrupt them. Divina then apologized. “Alden, sorry. Sa school yun.” (That’s for school.)

Alden didn’t snap. But he ended up saying “Wow” in Lola Nidora’s Babalu impression. “Wow, school!” Since Alden is set to leave, he made sure to leave her a message. “Maine, sana pagbalik ko, ako pa rin ha? Pero ako pa rin ba?” (I hope when I come back, it’s still me. But is it really still me?) Before she could answer Alden’s question, the truck horn honked off. Leaving the ALDUB Complicated episode to a cliffhanger.

Has boredom finally crept in the relationship? It’s the most underrated reason why some couples end up cheating. But can this analogy be applicable to a couple that has yet to admit the real score? Be careful what you wish for. That was what I told myself when I started getting bored with the weeksary specials. Perhaps because it has become routine. It made the weeksary episodes less special. What more for  daily episodes? I have to admit that the ALDUB Complicated episode was a shot in the arm. ALDUB has started entering the touchy territory. How durable is the road to forever? More episode recaps to come. Make sure that you like our official Facebook page, The Philippines Web. And follow us on Twitter @pinasamazing. We’d be expecting you.
