[Featured Image from Eat Bulaga Facebook Page.] The ALDUB Music of Love episode opens with the Kalye’s Angels sitting on a bench. A man plays guitar nearby. They sang an old song entitled “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (May You Remember). Yes, the same soundtrack used by one of ABS-CBN’s longest running drama anthologies of the same title. A song that listeners often forget to be sung as a duet with lines sung by the man and the woman respectively. Later, they shifted to the song “Magpakailanman” (Forever). It was the song used in the GMA drama anthology of the same title and a direct competitor of “Maalaala Mo Kaya”.
Lola Nidora was then asked by Divina at the ALDUB Music of Love episode if her suitors sung any song to her. “Lola, magaling po ba mag-gitara mga manliligaw nyo noon?” (Granny, do your suitors play the guitar well?) Lola Nidora said yes. She ended up singing a sample of a native Bicolano song that was once sung to her. Obviously they’ve been old enough to know if some songs sound a little similar to contemporary tunes. It resulted in a default mashup of “Diana” and “Baby”. Once it’s Donya Tinidora’s turn to share which song did her suitors sing to her, she gave a little hint. “Ang kinanta sa ‘kin yung pan-disco talaga. Santa Clara.” (They sang to me the “disco” tunes. Like Santa Clara.)
Bossing Vic then verified if it’s the same song that starts with “Ang sabi ng iba” (Other people said). Donya Tinidora confirmed it at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. She then started singing a sample. “Ang sabi ng iba. Maganda raw ako. Ang sabi ko naman. Hindi ko ‘to gusto.” (Other people said. That I am beautiful. But I said. I didn’t want this.) It’s only the chorus whose lyrics stay the same. “Santa Clarang pinong-pino. Kami po ay bigyan nyo. Ng asawa, labingtatlo. Na ang gusto walang reklamo.” (Very refined Saint Clare. Please grant us. 13 spouses. [Preferably] Those who don’t complain.)
The rest of the lyrics are interchangeable depending on how the singer(s) would like to tweak the lyrics. In short, a perfect OPM song for improv performances. Hence Allan K found ways to tweak this song at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ang sabi ng iba. Parang tao raw ako. Ang sabi ko naman. Baka totoong tao. Kasi nagsasalita. Pero ang mga totoong tao. Ito palang mga nasa tabi ko.” (Other people said. I look human. But I said. Maybe I am really human. Because I talk. But the real humans. Are these men beside me.)
Alden was seen at the other monitor practicing the ukulele. Allan K revealed who was teaching Alden at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Tinuturuan ni Pat.” (Pat is teaching him.) He was one of the crew that the Kalye’s Angels immediately recognized. Lola Nidora then asked how his lessons have been doing. Alden politely admitted. “Medyo mahirap po, lola.” (It’s a little hard, granny.)
Divina herself asked Alden. “Kaya mo pa ba, Alden?” (Can you still hang on?) Alden’s resilience then showed in his reply. “Walang ayawan. Kahit kailan, di kita aayawan.” (No giving up. I will never give up on you ever.) He then tried to play some tunes. Lola Nidora wasn’t so impressed at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Yan lang? Yan lang ang naituro sa yo ng very big mong tutor?” (That’s it? That’s the only thing taught by your very big tutor?)
Alden tried to play “Thinking Out Loud”. Donya Tinidora wasn’t so convinced either. “Parang nagli-lipsynch ka, Alden. Di sumasayad ang kamay mo.” (It’s like you’re lip-synching. Your hand is not strumming.) Alden’s hand is strumming. But the sound is not loud enough for the grannies to hear at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Medyo di pa po gamay, lola.” (I haven’t mastered it yet, granny.) Lola Nidora shared a sensible tip for Alden to remember. “Parang patay na yung kuko mo sa hinlalaki.” ([It should be] As if your thumbnail is dead.)
Alden then revealed that he has another teacher at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. It’s Baste that helps him play the keyboard. He would point out if Alden is not following certain plays. Since Baste is not heard well by the grannies. Alden would relay some things that Baste said at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Mali raw po.” (He said that I did it wrong.) Donya Tinidora’s sarcasm wasn’t so harsh though. “Lahat ng natutunan mo, mali.” (Everything that you learned is wrong.)
Baste then told him to play at least the chorus. Alden then played the chorus part of “Locked Away” by R City featuring Adam Levine. “If I got locked away. And we lost it all today. Tell me honestly. Would you still love me the same?” Baste was pleased with what he heard. “Perfect!” Donya Tinidora found Baste’s comment at the ALDUB Music of Love a little too gratuitous. “Pano naging perfect yun?” (How could that be perfect?)
Lola Nidora then remembered their Sugod Bahay duties at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. She reminded Divina. “Iwan muna natin si Alden at yung malalaki niyang tutor.” (Let’s leave Alden and his very big tutors for the meantime.) Donya Tidora remembered to leave a motivational tip for Alden. “Hijo, good luck!” Lola Nidora left some advice too. “Pag pagod na, iyak mo lang.” (If you’re tired, just cry it out.)
Alden took the opportunity to send one more message to Divina before they go to their Sugod Bahay errand at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Sana presyo na lang ako.” (I wish I’m just a price tag.) Divina then asked why. Alden replied. “Para matawag mo akong MAHAL.” (So that you can call me “MAHAL”.) [The Tagalog word “MAHAL” has 2 translations in English depending on usage. “MAHAL” that means “expensive”. And “MAHAL” that means “love”. That’s when “MAHAL” becomes a term of endearment.]
Divina then dished out a pickup line of her own. “Mahal, este, Alden, super bass ka ba?” (Are you a super bass?) Alden thought he heard something pleasant at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ano yun? Ano yun? Ano yung sabi mo?” (What? What? What did you say?) Divina repeated what she said. “Alden.” Alden insisted that Divina said something else. “Hindi. Naguumpisa sa M?” (No. It starts with the letter M.) Divina played it coy. “MAlden?” Anyway, Alden asked why. Divina replied. “Kasi you make my heartbeat running away.” Lola Nidora didn’t get the Nicki Minaj reference though.
As Divina and the Kalye’s Angels waited for Bossing Vic to pick the next winner. Alden tried playing a few notes from John Legend’s “All of Me” on the keyboard. Baste just looked on as Alden tapped the keys at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. He listened with the rest of the folks looking at him. If ever he played it wrong, he has enough room for improvement.
While Lola Nidora and the rest of the De Explorer entourage walked to their next Sugod Bahay winner. Boss Joey composed another potential Tough Hits’ ditty on the fly. He then started singing while playing the ukulele at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “May isang babae nagu-ukulele. At ang gamit niya, kanyang kilikili. Nang matapos na ang tugtog ng bastos na ale. Ang ginamit niya ay pabebe.” (There was a young lady playing ukulele. And she used her armpit. When the rude lady is done with playing her instrument. She used the “pabebe”.)
The grannies were almost done with their Sugod Bahay errand at the ALDUB Music of Love episode when they checked Alden’s practice. Divina herself asked Alden. Alden was halfway frustrated in his answer. “Eto na nga. Dami dami ko nang inaaral.” (Here I go. I’ve been studying so many of them.) Donya Tinidora was expecting Alden to quit at this point in the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ayawan na.” Alden had a decent alibi though. “Wala ngang melody eh. Gusto ko kasi yung tinutugtog ko, perfect.” (I can’t come up with any melody. I want the tunes that I play to be perfect.)
Divina had to remind him to take it easy. “Isa isa lang kasi.” (Do it one by one.) Alden appreciated the reminder. “Pero alam mo kung ano ang perfect sa kin? Yung tibok ng puso mo.” (But you know what’s perfect for me? It’s your heartbeat.) Divina’s heart fluttered again if her facial expressions at the ALDUB Music of Love episode would be used as basis.
Alden’s optimism hasn’t died though. “Don’t worry. Kagaya ng nasabi ko na dati, marami na tayong napagdaanan.” (Like what I have said before, we have endured so much now.) Divina liked it. “’Yan ang fighting spirit.” (That’s the fighting spirit.) That’s when Divina dished out some pickup line again. “Alden, marunong ka bang magbilang?” (Do you know how to count?) Alden said yes. Divina had threw her followup question at this point in the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Anong kasunod ng I LOVE YOU ONE?” (What comes after I LOVE YOU ONE?) Alden answered. “E di I LOVE YOU TWO.” It took awhile for Alden to realize what he said.
Alden liked Divina’s line. “May baon ka pala.” (You came prepared.) Divina found it helpful for Alden. “Siempre para ganahan ka lalo.” (Of course so that you would be motivated more.) Alden then test-played the instruments simultaneously from ukulele to the keyboard. He used keys from Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me”. Mostly intros. It made Donya Tinidora comment. “INTROVOYZ ka ba?” (Are you one of the INTROVOYZ?) [INTROVOYZ is actually a name of a Philippine alternative band. In time, it’s definition evolved into a slang term for musical instrument enthusiasts whose repertoire is limited to the intro notes of a song. So far, Alden is one of the INTROVOYZ. His improvement has yet to be seen though. Otherwise, he’d be stuck in INTROVOYZ mode.]
Divina liked the tunes that Alden learned playing on the instruments. “Okay naman eh. Kaya mo naman eh.” (It sounds okay. You can do it.) Lola Nidora appreciated the improvement as of the ALDUB Music of Love episode. “Ang pagmamahal, may kaakibat na sakripisyo. Kung wala ka nito, mahina ang pundasyon.” (Love comes with sacrifice. If you don’t have this, the foundation will be weak.)
Alden took the opportunity to tell Divina and her grannies some events in store for the next day. “Di muna ako magpa-practice bukad. Natatandaan mo kung ano bukas?” (I won’t practice for the meantime tomorrow. Do you remember what occasion is tomorrow?) Divina’s eyes lit up. “Oo nga pala. Bukas na po yung January 21.” (Oh yes. Tomorrow is January 21.) Donya Tinidora found Divina a little too excited at the ALDUB Music of Love episode. Lola Nidora had a slight guess about that Thursday. “No Practice Day.” Alden then reminded everyone about the ALDUB 27th Weeksary.
Divina then shared what she discussed with Alden at their ALDUB 6th Monthsary date. “Kasi po may napag-usapan po kami ni Alden nung may date kami last week. Balak po namin kayo isama.” (We discussed something of Alden during our date. We would like to include you.) Lola Nidora remembered something that made her say no. “Nung huli mo kaming sinama, di mo kami pinakain. Sabi mo manonood lang tayo ng mga bibi tapos binagsak tayo.” (The last time you tagged us along, you didn’t feed us. You said that we would just watch some swans only for you to drop us [literally].)
At the ALDUB Music of Love episode. Lola Nidora then remembered that she was referring to the Log Jam ride at the Enchanted Kingdom. It happened at the ALDUB Rendezvous episode. But Lola Nidora wasn’t shown on the camera because Dora was there. Just when Alden was about to reveal what is in store for the ALDUB 27th Weeksary, the truck horn sounded off. The ALDUB Music of Love episode ended on a cliffhanger again.
