President Rodrigo Roa Duterte talked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India in a phone call at the Presidential Guest House in Davao City.
In their conversation, both leaders discussed the continuity of dialogue between the two nations especially during this period of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). President Duterte expressed the readiness of the Philippines to work closely with India in overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic.
With India’s exceptional global leadership in generic pharmaceuticals, President Duterte also expressed his interest in sourcing medical supplies from India, especially the vaccine for COVID-19, once it becomes available.
Prime Minister Modi reminisced his visit to the Philippines in 2017 and conveyed his gratitude to President Duterte for the warm hospitality extended to him and the Indian delegation during his stay. He assured the President of India’s willingness to provide assistance to the country in its battle against COVID-19.
The Prime Minister also thanked the President for protecting the welfare of Indian nationals staying in the country.
