At the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. Donya Tidora and Lola Nidora received a frantic call from YayaDUB. Lola Nidora didn’t know the place that YayaDUB mentioned. Donya Tidora then took her to the place that YayaDUB told her. Whether it was another abduction or some exaggerated mishap. Lola Nidora would then know. She’s quite used to the over-reactions of her nanny and her governess. And it takes a special kind of patience for the antics of Donya Tidora too. What more if Donya Tinidora has arrived?
Donya Tidora pointed the direction at an events’ hall. Lola Nidora found that odd. Why here? Donya Tidora convinced Lola Nidora to come in and check for YayaDUB’s situation. Lola Nidora hesitated. But since she wanted to see YayaDUB, she eventually relented. That’s when YayaDUB greeted Lola Nidora a happy birthday. She showed the grannies inside the set and the guests that awaited her. Lola Nidora was almost lost for words at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode.
After regaining her composure. Lola Nidora tried to speak. “Akala ko hindi nyo alam ang bday ko.” (I thought you didn’t know my birthday.) YayaDUB replied. “Puede ba naman naming makalimutan yun?” (Can we ever forget that?) Donya Tidora agreed. Then she pointed at Lola Nidora’s most awaited guest. “AY SI JAIME!” (It’s Jaime!) The man Lola Nidora called Jaime is Boss Jimmy Santos. He was present at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode without his baseball cap. In fact he dressed up for the occasion albeit semi-formal.
The party at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode reminded the audience of a children’s party. The KalyeSerye commentators at Broadway Centrum was surrounded with balloons. All four of them – Senator Tito, Bossing Vic, Boss Joey and Allan K – wore crowns in solidarity with the occasion. At the venue, Donya Tidora showed Lola Nidora her guests. Lola Nidora recognized them. “Yung mga kalaro natin sa agawang base.” (Our playmates at base games.)
Lola Nidora can really tell that the party is Donya Tidora’s concept. Not because of the children’s party feel at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. “Ramdam na ramdam ko ang pakana ni Donya Tidora na party. Ang daming guapo.” (I can feel so much that Donya Tidora planned this party. So many handsome hunks.) Donya Tidora didn’t defend herself. But she gave credit to YayaDUB too. “Kaming dalawa ni YayaDUB.” (We of YayaDUB did this.)
Later, Donya Tidora directed Lola Nidora to their special guest. It was their family friend, Ms Helen. [Ms. Helen Gamboa-Sotto herself. Senator Tito’s shock was so obvious at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. He dropped his jaw.] Ms. Helen happily greeted her friend Lola Nidora. “Pinagdala kita mga paborito mong pagkain.” (I brought you your favorite dishes.) Lola Nidora was so happy at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. She wished that the KalyeSerye commentators were on location too. “Naku, Vicente, Marvic, Joey, sana nandito kayo.” (Oh, Vicente, Marvic, Joey, I wish you were here.) Bossing Vic answered in behalf of the commentary panel. “Oo. Kami lobo at tubig lang.” (Yeah. All we have now are the balloons and some water.)
Senator Tito was very happy to see Ms. Helen at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. “Siya pala ninang ni YayaDUB ha? Tanong mo kung may asawa siya, Lola.” (So she is YayaDUB’s godmother right? Ask her if she’s married.) Ms. Helen had a simple answer to Senator Tito’s question. “Negotiable.” Senator Tito chided. “Aba eh, matagal na kong diborsiyado.” (Well, I’ve been divorced for quite some time.) Lola Nidora chimed in too. “Eto na siguro ang tamang panahon nyo.” (Maybe this is the right time for you.)
Later a song from The Platters was heard from the background. It was Alden DUBsmashing to The Platters’ “Only You”. Since he already helped in assembling a “pabitin” set. Alden came with a cake for Lola Nidora. It was sent by the ALDUB Nation. Lola Nidora thanked the ALDUB Nation for the cake. With Alden around, YayaDUB introduced him to Ms. Helen. “Si Alden po pala. Kaibigan ko po.” (This is Alden. My friend.) Why friend? Because Lola Nidora still has her restriction at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode.
Alden politely greeted Ms. Helen. “Kinagagalak ko po kayong makilala. Balita ko po masarap ang tinapa rice nyo.” (I am glad to meet you. I was told that your tinapa rice tastes great.) When was the last time a gentleman said “Kinagagalak ko po kayong makilala”? It feels great to hear it at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. Ms. Helen was pleased to meet him too. Alden made a minor comment upon knowing she is YayaDUB’s godmother. “Baka po pagdating ng Pasko puede ko na rin po kayong tawaging ninang.” (Maybe by Christmas I may call you godmother too.)
A car horn was heard again. Lola Nidora then asked who else did Donya Tidora invite in the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. Donya Tidora lost track of the invitations sent though. The sight of a white gown and bodyguards with Justin Bieber wigs gave viewers a hint. It was Donya Babah. She talked to Alden the moment she saw him. “Blezzurski. Alden, hinahanap kita sa Broadwi. Andito ka pala sa bday.” (I’ve been looking for you at the Broadway Centrum. Turns out that you were at the birthday party.) Lola Nidora quickly told YayaDUB to fetch for her best dress. The last event where she planned to get upstaged is at her own birthday party.
Donya Babah greeted Lola Nidora a happy birthday. She immediately expressed that the feeling is not mutual. “Bakit ka andito?” (Why are you here?) Donya Babah didn’t feel like raining on Lola Nidora’s parade. But she is blunt enough. “Kailangan ba masungit tayo? Magplastikan muna tayo.” (Do we have to be bitchy? Let’s have a Tupperware party for the meantime.) They exchanged air kisses. Lola Nidora got pricked with Donya Babah’s gown ornaments. She then greeted Lola Nidora a happy birthday in Russian gibberish. Alden translated it to Lola Nidora at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode.
Lola Nidora tried to be nice. “Salamat at napaligaya mo ako. Maligayang maligaya ako.” (Thank you very much for making me happy. I am very happy.) Lola Nidora can’t suppress a snicker though. Donya Babah didn’t see Lola Nidora snicker at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. But she dished out some snappy remarks just the same. “Maganda naman pala sa personal si Lola Nidora. Nung makita ko sa monitor, parang naiwan sa kotse ang ganda niya.” (Lola Nidora is beautiful in person after all. When I saw her at the monitor, it’s like her beauty got left in the car.)
Donya Babah’s snide remarks did not sit well with Lola Nidora at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. She had some snappy remarks of her own. “Hindi ko pinang-araw-araw ang ganda. Lalo kung hindi rin naman kagandahan ang haharapin ko.” (My beauty is not on an everyday basis. Especially when I am not facing anyone beautiful.) Donya Babah’s face was stiff as a frozen margarita when she replied. “Kaya pala pang-undas ganda mo, Nidora.” (No wonder your beauty is perfect for the Day of the Dead.) Lola Nidora felt better to having been called beautiful. Even just once a year. “At least. Once a year, maganda ako. What about you?” Donya Babah relented. “Sapat na ito. Marami lang namang nagmamahal sa mukhang ito.” (I’m fine. Many people love this face.) Lola Nidora 1. Donya Babah 0.
Donya Babah won’t immediately let go of this bitch fest. “Pangit ka ba?” (Are you ugly?) Lola Nidora took forever to answer. With some coaching from YayaDUB and Donya Tidora, she safely replied. “Bakit?” (Why?) Donya Babah pressed further “Tinatanong pa ba?” (Do you really have to ask?) Lola Nidora tried to keep her composure. Not only because it’s the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. But also because the mansion is mortgaged to Donya Babah’s family. She didn’t want a bad situation to go worse.
Before Donya Babah would push forward with raining on Lola Nidora’s parade, she let the celebrant enjoy her day. “Hindi ako makikipagaway sa yo. Gusto ko lang makasama si Alden.” (I won’t argue with you. I just want to be with Alden.) She went on to greet Ms. Helen too. Alden tried to break the ice at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. He introduced YayaDUB to Donya Babah. “Yung kai-bigan este kaibigan ko. Divina Ursula Bocbocoba Smash po.” (My beloved, er, my friend.)
Donya Babah addressed YayaDUB as “Ursula”. She also noticed that she wore a dress with the same color as that of Alden’s jacket. The KalyeSerye commentators asked if Donya Babah’s dress is for some parade. Donya Babah didn’t feel over-dressed for the occasion. “This is my normal outfit.” She then thanked for the set of cupcakes that YayaDUB assembled for her birthday.
Donya Babah didn’t express her dislike for YayaDUB. But she pulled Alden aside. She compared her to that model studying in Harvard. Lola Nidora got paranoid again at the ALDUB Happy Bday Lola episode. “Ano ba sinasabi? Kahit bday ko, bibigwasan ko yan.” (What is she saying? Even if it’s my birthday, I’d smack her down.) Donya Tidora and YayaDUB calmed her down. And of all the complaints that Donya Babah had about YayaDUB, it was her body frame that she voiced out as unpleasant. “Very thin, my grandson.” She favored that model from Harvard then complain about YayaDUB’s thinness?
Alden defended YayaDUB. “Lahat po sa kanya, gusto ko lalo na yung ngiti niya.” (I like everything about her especially her smile.) YayaDUB ended up smiling bigger because of that. She was so happy. Alden supported his stance by DUBsmashing “Ngiti”. Donya Babah got perplexed at YayaDUB’s facial expressions. “Yung mukha niya naggaganito. Gusto mo na? Sira ulo ka ano?” (Her face was like this and this. And you like her? Are you crazy?)
It took awhile for Donya Tidora to remember the mortgaged mansion. She then asked Lola Nidora. “Pakiusapan na natin yung tungkol sa mansion.” (Let’s ask her about the mansion.) Lola Nidora had to set aside her ill feelings to introduce Donya Babah to the rest of the guests. She even found time to slightly flirt with Bossing Vic Sotto. She then asked to sit beside Lola Nidora at one condition. “Wag mong hihilahin ang upuan. Sasapukin kita.” (Don’t pull the chair before I sit. I’d smack you on the head.) Donya Tinidora may not be around at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. But Lola Nidora is just as capable of mischief and sarcasm to people like Donya Babah.
If not for Donya Babah’s observation about the lack of things to do at the party other than eat. Donya Tidora wouldn’t think of starting the games. She revealed that there will be a newspaper dance game. Of course, participants in the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode were pairs. So Alden and YayaDUB paired themselves. As the newspaper got folded smaller. Alden and YayaDUB got closer. It worried Lola Nidora. She complained to Donya Tidora. “Masyadong dikit.” (They’re too close.) Donya Tidora reminded her of the rules. “Newspaper dance nga eh!” (That’s why it’s the newspaper dance!) Donya Babah even checked if they pair really got too close. She seemed fine with it.
For starters, the newspaper dance is like musical chairs except that you step on the newspaper every time the music stops. And each pair is assigned a sheet of used newspaper to play with. So participants only had to worry about their partners. Every time the music stops, both partners step on the newspaper laid out on the floor for them. Then they fold the newspaper before the music resumes. Whoever lasts on the game longest wins. So viewers of the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode were excited to see how close Alden and YayaDUB can get in this game.
One of the first pairs to get booted out of the game in the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode was Baste and Ryzza Mae. Baste understood the game differently. So he ended up stepping on the folded newspaper without Ryzza Mae. Lola Nidora and Donya Tidora had to explain that it’s not how the game works. Since they are the only kids in the game, Donya Tidora and Lola Nidora let it pass.
On the other hand, Alden carried YayaDUB and stepped on the folded newspaper. Looks like it can only fit in a pair of feet. So Alden decided on carrying YayaDUB. Lola Nidora trembled upon seeing this. “Bakit kailangang kargahin?” Donya Tidora told Lola Nidora to let it go. Senator Tito supported Alden’s move. “Hindi na kasya. Kailangan na talagang kargahin.” (They won’t fit. She needs to be carried.) Donya Babah agreed with Senator Tito. Lola Nidora let it go just like that of Baste and Ryzza Mae.
The newspaper was folded at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode to prepare for the next song. The music played and stopped just in time for Alden to carry YayaDUB. This time, he let YayaDUB piggyback on him. Donya Tidora eliminated several pairs including Baste and Ryzza Mae. Alden and YayaDUB were now left with one pair to contend with. After seeing how small the newspaper had gotten. Lola Nidora begged Donya Tidora. “Palitan mo yung game.” (Change the game.) She wasn’t angry. Just nervous. Donya Tidora told her that it would be more fun this way. Donya Babah pulled Lola Nidora aside to let the kids be.
Alden then strategized for the win. The newspaper got folded small enough to accommodate only one foot. So when the music stopped, he removed his shoes and carried YayaDUB like a bride. He then let his foot go on top of the other to fit in the folded newspaper. And so Alden and YayaDUB were declared winners at the newspaper game.
Both grannies from both sides were happy. Lola Nidora said that YayaDUB did great. Donya Babah said that Alden (or “Aldren”) did great. Before another bitch fest ensues at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode, a car horn was heard again. Donya Tidora thought that it’s the end of the episode. But it’s still early. Lola Nidora asked her if there is anyone else that she invited at the party.
The camera showed the unexpected guest. Alden greeted him. “Lolo Ed!” (Granny Ed!) He didn’t have bodyguards. So the Rogelio Rogelio Rogelio escorted him in the party at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. Donya Babah and Alden went to the entrance to personally welcome him. “Hello, my brother! How are you today?” He replied. “Fine. Thank you. Alam mo, kanina pa kita tinatawagan sa cellphone. Hindi ka sumasagot. Hindi ka ba nagbayad?” (I’ve been calling you on the mobile phone. You’re not taking my calls. Haven’t you paid your bills?) Donya Babah didn’t answer the question directly. “Bakit hindi mo na lang ako hinintay?” (Why didn’t you wait for me instead?)
Donya Babah then called the celebrant Lola Nidora to introduce him. “Nidora, this is my brother. Don Eduardro Rockefeller.” Don Eduardo had trouble pronouncing Lola Nidora’s name. Alden corrected him. Don Eduardo’s tone was apologetic when he talked to Lola Nidora. Unlike Donya Babah. Don Eduardo spoke Spanish. After greeting Lola Nidora, he said. “Con su permiso.” (If you please.) Lola Nidora just said “Si.” (Yes.)
Alden is proud of his grand-uncle Don Eduardo. “Lola, hindi nyo po natatanong. Artista po itong si Lolo.” (Granny, in case you may ask. Grand-uncle is an actor.) It was somewhat reminiscent of the time that he introduced himself as an actor to Donya Bebeng. Lola Nidora excitedly asked what project is he into. Don Eduardo cut to the chase. “Isang teleserye. Ang title ay Little Nanay.” (I have an upcoming TV series entitled Little Nanay. ) He then mentioned his project “Little Nanay” (Little Mother). [This guest appearance by veteran actor Eddie Garcia is to promote the said TV series featuring Kris Bernal. He also mentioned Ms. Nora Aunor and Mr. Bembol Roco among his fellow cast members.] Lola Nidora promised to watch Little Nanay at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode.
Donya Babah started talking to Don Eduardo in Russian gibberish. Don Eduardo then asked Lola Nidora. “Quien esas señorita?” (Who is this young miss?) Lola Nidora then introduced YayaDUB as “Yaya Divina”. YayaDUB paid her respects to Don Eduardo. “Magandang hapon po.” (Good afternoon.) Don Eduardo replied while doing the pabebe wave. “Magandang hapon.” (Good afternoon.) Alden mentioned to Don Eduardo that she is his friend. “Kaibigan ko po.” (My friend.) Don Eduardo asked for a clarification. “Kaibigan o kasintahan?” (Friend or beloved?) Alden got confused with his answer. He ended up mixing the words “kaibigan” and “kasintahan”. “Kasin … bigan po.”
The ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode showed VTRs of birthday greetings to Lola Nidora. Rihanna sent her birthday message to her employer complete with a reminder for her 13th month pay. Ms. Helen personally gave her birthday message to Lola Nidora. Lola Nidora is thankful for the shower of attention to her. “Salamat sa mga bumati dito sa surprise party nina Yaya at TIdora. Ang totoo, kala ko nakalimutan na nila yung bday ko.” (Thank you to everyone who greeted at the surprise party by nanny and Tidora. Truth be told, I thought they have forgotten my birthday.)
Lola Nidora thanked Donya Tinidora too. She learned from Donya Tidora that she contributed funds too. Ms. Helen and Don Eduardo got special mention at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. Don Eduardo thanked Lola Nidora in Spanish. “Muchisimas gracias.” Lola Nidora’s proficiency in Spanish is limited. So she asked Donya Babah. “Ano raw?” (What did he say?) Donya Babah duped Lola Nidora about the translation. “Muchacha ka raw.” (He said you’re a maid servant.) They only corrected it later. Lola Nidora reminded everyone to love one another.
By this time in the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. Lola Nidora has remembered even her sisters’ birthdays. “Gusto kong tawagin si Tidora. Happy birthday. Birthday niya sa Lunes. Birthday naman bukas ni Tinidora bukas. Sanggol pa lang ako, may attitude na ako. May kanya kanya kaming moment.” (I’d like to greet Tidora. Happy birthday. It’s her birthday on Monday. Tomorrow is Tinidora’s birthday. As early as infancy, I already have an attitude problem. Each of us has a moment.) This clarified why is she the eldest. She was born November 14. Donya Tinidora was born November 15. And Donya Tidora was born November 16. So she did not blow the candle alone. She shared this birthday with Donya Tidora.
It was a brief celebration at the ALDUB Happy Bday Lola episode. Either that or Donya Babah can’t take the Tupperware party anymore. And so she reminded Lola Nidora of their conversation at the ALDUB Last Chance episode. It’s payback time. “Eto na ang inyong pa-birthday. Bibigyan natin kayo ng palugit sa mansion. Bibigyan namin kayo ng time makabayad.” (This is my birthday treat in return. We will give you additional time for the mansion. We will give you enough time to pay.)
Lola Nidora is very thankful for the birthday treat. “Maraming salamat. Maganda pala ang iyong kalooban. Kalooban lang.” (Thank you very much. You have a lovely gesture. Just the gesture.) Donya Babah pretended not to hear. “Maliit na bagay lang yun! P20 million. Di ba, Alden?” (It’s just a little thing! Php20 million. Right, Alden?) Before Alden could answer in the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. Lola Nidora reminded him of the lost ring. “Pero hindi ko rin nakakalimutan ang singsing na nawala ni Alden.” (But I have not forgotten the ring that Alden lost.)
Donya Babah heard of the lost ring again. She’s willing to pay in behalf of her grand-son at the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode. “Magkano nga ba ang singsing? Pag hindi natin nakita, Alden, gusto naming bayaran na lang ang The Ring. Tama, Alden?” (How much is the ring? If not found, Alden, we would like to pay for the ring instead. Right, Alden?) She had to press Lola Nidora for this info. Lola Nidora then revealed it. “Mura lang naman. Ang singsing ay nagkakahalaga ng P21million.” (Not that much. The ring costs Php21 million.) The truck horn honked to declare the ALDUB Happy BDay Lola episode over.
Lola Nidora’s debt to Donya Babah is Php20 million. The ring that Alden lost is Php21 million. Whether it’s an accurate appraisal of the lost ring has yet to be determined. With a clash of obligations in place, how can the debt be settled? It’s an excellent way to parody the economic fluctuations often seen in primetime soaps.
