The storm stayed outside the Broadway Centrum building as the Kalye’s Angels arrived at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora are in the complaining mood again. “Ano ba ginagawa natin dito?” (What are we doing here?) They didn’t consider themselves prepped up to face the KalyeSerye commentary panel. Lola Nidora scolded them. “Wag nga kayong reklamo nang reklamo!” (Stop complaining!)
Donya Tidora emphasized the point though at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. “Tatlong araw na tayong hindi naliligo. Nagpapalit lang tayo ng mga damit.” (We haven’t taken a bath for 3 days. We just change outfits.) Donya Tinidora thought it was worse for her though. “Buti nga kayo, nagpapalit ng damit! Ako nga hindi ako nagpapalit ng ano eh. Ng medyas ko eh.” (At least you change your outfits! I haven’t changed my …. My socks.) Lola Nidora tried to calm down her sisters. “Hayaan nyo. Kahit tatlong araw na tayong hindi naliligo, nagpapalit naman tayo ng damit at nagtatawas naman tayo.” (Never mind. Even if we haven’t bathed in 3 days, we change our clothes and we use deodorant.)
Donya Tinidora still hasn’t accepted their newfound poverty status. She appreciated the vehicle service. But it was way below her expectations. “Bakit naka-tricycle pa tayo?” (Why use a tricycle?) Donya Tidora went into further detail in complaining at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. “Oo nga. Sabi ni Alden, may service siya. Tapos ayaw ko pang sumakay sa service. Ang hirap-hirap sumakay sa tricycle.” (Yes indeed. Alden said that he has vehicle service. And I don’t like the service [that Alden sent over to pick them up]. It’s hard to get on the tricycle.)
Lola Nidora insisted on accepting their current status to her sisters. “Kayong dalawa! Nang masanay naman tayo na mag-commute!” (The two of you! We need to get used to commuting!) Donya Tinidora was defiant at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. “Pues! Hindi ako masasanay!” (Well! I will never get used to this!) Donya Tidora explained it better than Donya Tinidora though. “Pano kami masasanay? Nakasakay kami dun sa harapan ng driver?” (How will we get used to this? We rode in front of the driver!) Lola Nidora tried to put sense in Donya Tidora though. “Bakit dun ka kasi naupo?” (Then why did you sit there?) Apparently, the Rogelio Rogelio Rogelio occupied the space inside the tricycle that could have been the sisters’ spot.
Lola Nidora then prodded Donya Tinidora to start climbing the ladder. As the Kalye’s Angels entered the premises, the Broadway Centrum crowd was shown wearing head ornaments similar to the grannies’ floral head pieces. Alden himself welcomed them at the top of the stairs and paid his respects. “Salamat sa pagpunta.” (Thank you for coming.) The ladders helped in keeping Donya Tinidora distracted from her complaints for the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. Lola Nidora chastised her for her fetish.“Akyat ka nang akyat pag nakakakita ka ng hagdan eh. Wala nang tugtog.” (You keep climbing every time you see ladders. The music has stopped.)
Alden then asked as he assisted the grannies on their way in. “Bakit po kasi ayaw nyong magpasundo?” (Why don’t you want to be fetched by our vehicle service?) It was Lola Nidora’s decision at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. So Alden asked the question directly to her. Lola Nidora is too tired to explain to Alden and snapped back at her sisters. “Bakit ako?” (Why me?) Donya Tidora sensed that Lola Nidora didn’t like being the scapegoat again. She answered in behalf of Lola Nidora. “Bayaan mo na yun. Mainam na yun para masanay kaming mag-commute.” (Never mind. It would be better for us to get used to commuting.)
Donya Tinidora then diverted her question to Alden. “Bakit nga kami nandito?” (As I said, why are we here?) Alden had to ask them first where is YayaDUB. Lola Nidora answered. “Nasa ekswelahan, Alden. Ang sabi ko, dito na dumirecho sa Broadway. Wag kang mag-alala. Parating na yun.” (Alden, she’s at school. I told her to go straight here to Broadway [Centrum]. Don’t worry. She’s on her way.) In a minute, Big Bang’s “Fantastic Baby” played in the background confirming YayaDUB’s arrival at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode.
YayaDUB took the front route and ran straight to the stage. The ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode showed more obviously how going to the stage can be done 2 ways. And YayaDUB took the shortcut. She immediately went onstage and greeted the audience. She then paid her respects to the present KalyeSerye commentators Allan K, Bossing Vic and Boss Joey de Leon. Then she asked them. “Nakita nyo po ba si Alden?” (Have you seen Alden?
Boss Joey didn’t answer the question. But he looked at Bossing Vic instead. Bossing Vic then answered. “Si Alden? Kaaalis lang. Hindi mo ba nakasalubong?” (He just left. Didn’t you meet him on your way?) Somewhat disappointed. YayaDUB decided to leave. “Sige po. Uwi na po ako. Hindi po eh.” (Okay. I’d go home. I didn’t [meet him on my way here].) She was about to leave when Bossing Vic told her that he had seen the grannies instead. So YayaDUB asked the audience present at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode.
Overwhelmed with sadness, YayaDUB then decided to stay onstage. “Matutulog na lang po ako dito.” (I will just sleep here instead.) The KalyeSerye commentary panel felt bad for her. Before YayaDUB dozes off. Boss Joey called out to Alden. Alden’s voice was then heard at the background. “Meng, andito ako, Meng.” (Meng, I’m here.) YayaDUB quickly got up and asked. “Asan ka?” (Where are you?) Alden answered. “Dito sa likod.” (I’m at backstage.) YayaDUB then bid the KalyeSerye commentary panel goodbye.
YayaDUB ran backstage to find Alden. Alden then surprised her. “Andito ako!” (I’m here!) YayaDUB screamed in shock. Allan K then sensed how the shock was real based on YayaDUB’s scream at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. She then paid her respects to the grannies and complained to Alden. “Nakapagod ako kakatakbo. Ikaw naman! Ginulat mo pa ako! Pagod na nga ako eh!” (I got tired from running. And you! You shocked me!) Alden then asked the obvious to YayaDUB. “Nagulat ka ba?” (Did I surprise you?) YayaDUB’s sarcasm kicked in at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. “Hindi. Hindi ako nagulat.” (No. I wasn’t surprised at all.)
It was then YayaDUB’s turn to ask what’s up. Alden shot back with the question as to what is the day’s occasion. YayaDUB answered based on what she remembered. “Wednesday ngayon. Baclaran Day.” (It’s a Wednesday. Baclaran Day.) [Baclaran is the more known name of the Redemptorist Church in Metro Manila. It is packed to the rafters with Catholics attending the Holy Mass every Wednesday.] Alden then emphasized the date – 16 December 2015. YayaDUB knew something about every 16th of December though. “Simula nung Simbang Gabi.” (First Day of the Rooster Masses.) [She referred to the 9 Novena Masses before the Christmas Eve Mass at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode.] Alden again said no.
YayaDUB tried to remember. And she thought that it’s only 9 days before Christmas. Alden looked a little annoyed. “Wala. Ayoko na.” (Enough of this.) Before Alden could walk farther away, YayaDUB caught up to him and finally let down her act. “Saka, siempre. 5th monthsary natin. Eto naman o. Makakalimutan ko ba yun?” (And of course, it’s our 5th Monthsary. Come on. Will I ever forget that? ) Donya Tinidora gave Alden a soft nudge towards YayaDUB. Albeit distracted with Donya Tinidora’s antics. YayaDUB greeted Alden a Happy ALDUB 5th Monthsary. Alden thanked her for finally recognizing the occasion.
YayaDUB then gave Alden her for their ALDUB 5th Monthsary. Instead of the usual letter, it was a pink card. Alden responded by giving her a blue card. It was a cute exchange. But Alden reminded YayaDUB that the contents are “For your eyes only”. Before the BFF couple gets carried away. Donya Tidora then asked Alden. “Hijo, ano bang ginagawa namin dito? Hindi naman kami kasali dun sa monthsary nyo.” (Son, what are we doing here? We’re not included into your monthsary.) Lola Nidora thought of paying respects to the KalyeSerye commentary panel first. “Magbigay pugay muna tayo kina Marvic.” Donya Tinidora is happy again at the thought of meeting 2 of the founding fathers of Eat Bulaga. Donya Tidora went along despite the embarrassment of being unbathed for days.
And so the grannies met again the KalyeSerye commentary panel. Donya Tinidora is so fond of Bossing Vic. A kiss on the hand is not enough. Lola Nidora is more than happy to see an audience wearing lacy head ornaments too. “May mga amiga tayo doon.” (We have friends there.) Donya Tidora went with her to join the audience for some photo-op with the fans. YayaDUB and Alden were then left on Alden’s den talking. [It’s one of the episodes that showed Alden and Maine finally having their own world to share hence the adage “May sariling mundo”.]
Donya Tidora called out to Donya Tinidora. The audience present at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode were fond of her too. Donya Tinidora didn’t feel like joining them though. “Hindi ako basta-basta nakikipagkaibigan.” (I don’t make friends that easily.) Soon, Donya Tinidora joined her sisters in selfie opportunities with the ALDUB Nation. With the grannies preoccupied. YayaDUB and Alden found ways to DUBsmash and talk to each other in between tracks. Sorry, ALDUB Nation. They have their own world now. So whatever they discussed might remain off the record.
Bossing Vic can’t help but comment. “Ito namang dalawang ‘to! Magkatabi na. Nagda-DUBSmash-an pa!” (These two. They’re already beside each other. And they’re still exchanging DUBsmash tracks.) Lola Nidora agreed. Now even Bossing Vic is intrigued. “Ano ba talaga ang ginagawa nyo rito, mga lola?” (What are you really doing here, grannies?) The triplets were clueless. Alden sent them over at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode without any idea what their participation will be.
Alden and YayaDUB then went out onstage to clear the mystery. Bossing Vic had to say his mind about something obvious though. “Bat’t parang amoy baul dito?” (How come it smelled like some old chest box here?) Donya Tinidora somewhat chastised Bossing Vic. “Wag mong anuhin yun! Ganun talaga! Hindi kami naliligo!” (Stop paying attention to that! It’s how it is! We don’t bathe!) Lola Nidora then prodded Alden to answer since it’s already Bossing Vic himself asking at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode.
Alden then explained. “Meron po akong sorpresa sa inyo, mga lola. Since na-stress po kayo these past few days, nakita ko po kung gaano yung paghihirap nyo nung pinaalis po kayo sa mansion. Saka naghanap po kayo ng mga bahay. May treat po ako sa inyo ngayon.” (I have a surprise for you, grannies. Since you were stressed these past few days, I saw how hard it was for you when you were kicked out of the mansion. And you’re still looking for a house. I have a treat for you today.) He then asked the grannies to close their eyes to guide them to his surprise at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode.
Donya Tinidora’s sarcasm kicked in. She is willing to close her eyes. But it reminded her of something else. “Parang sasali kami sa fraternity naman.” (It’s like we’re getting into some fraternity initiation.) Lola Nidora got Donya Tinidora’s drift. “Baka hazing ito ha?” (This might be some hazing stint.) Alden said no. YayaDUB guided the grannies as Lola Nidora held her arm. She guaranteed them that they will like this treat at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. Upon reaching the spot backstage, Alden prodded the grannies to open their eyes.
It was a spa treat for Lola Nidora, Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. Lola Nidora was so happy at the treat. She hugged Alden. “Alden, maraming salamat. Mabuti na lang at hindi ka talaga nagmana sa lola mo ano? Napakabait mo sa amin.” (Thank you very much. It’s really good that you did not inherit your grandmother’s attributes. You were so nice to us.) Donya Tidora and Donya Tinidora were just as thankful. Alden used this opportunity to apologize for what his grandmother, Donya Babah, did. He then reiterated how his love extended to her immediate family. “Lahat po ng mahal ni Yaya, mahal ko rin.” (Everyone that nanny loves, I love them too.) As the grannies sat down, Alden excused himself with YayaDUB.
Alden and YayaDUB then sat on the spot where YayaDUB smiled at Alden. This time they did it together. There wasn’t much on the reminiscing side at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary though. [Besides, the height of Lola Nidora’s most evil days are found at the KalyeSerye’s first month on Eat Bulaga.] YayaDUB asked for Alden’s permission to lay her head on his shoulder. Of course, Alden allowed her. It didn’t even last a minute as Alden DUBsmashed Brian White’s “God Gave Me You”.
Later Alden led YayaDUB on stage to relive that “God Gave Me You Waltz” that they performed at the ALDUB EB Tamang Panahon special episode. It was followed by the almost hip hop dance that they shared at the aforementioned episode. And since they are reminiscing on the things that happened at the ALDUB EB Tamang Panahon special episode. Alden then asked YayaDUB to stand in the middle of the stage to see what else does she remember as of the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode.
YayaDUB then corrected Alden nicely. She shifted to a different spot onstage. Alden then emphasized the importance of the days involving Maine Mendoza at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. “Alam mo actually. Mahalaga yung July 16. Pero ang pinakamahalaga yung June 19. Yung araw na nag-audition ka for Eat Bulaga.” (Actually 16 July 2015 is important. But the most important is 19 June 2015. The day you auditioned for Eat Bulaga.) YayaDUB felt touched. “Naiiyak tuloy ako.” (I feel like crying.)
Alden explained the importance of 19 June 2015. “Naalala mo? Kasi hindi naman mangyayari lahat ng ito kung hindi ka nagpunta dito para mag-audition. Tama?” (You remember? Because all of these events won’t happen if you didn’t come over to audition. Right?) When asked how does she feel, [Maine] was at a loss for words. “Hindi ako makapaniwala na … Ayun! Naiiyak na ako!” (I can’t believe that … There! I feel like crying!) She had mixed emotions at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. Until now, everything still felt overwhelming. Alden then approached her for a big hug.
Alden then shifted to a role-playing session with [Maine] for the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. He pretended to be the Eat Bulaga executive Jenny Ferre in charge of auditioning Maine Mendoza.
“Pangalan?” (Name?)
“Nicomaine Mendoza po.”
“Tagasaan?” (From where?)
“Taga-Bulacan po.” (From Bulacan.)
“Ilang taon?” (Age?)
“Twenty po.”
“Marunong ka bang kumanta?” (Can you sing?)
“Hindi po.” (No.)
“Marunong ka bang sumayaw?” (Can you dance?)
“Hindi rin po.” (Neither.)
“Marunong ka bang umarte?” (Can you act?)
“Hindi ko po alam eh.” (I don’t know.)
“Ano alam mong gawin?” (What can you do?)
“Magpapangit po at saka mag-DUBsmash.” (Make myself ugly and DUBsmash.)
Alden then revealed one of the tasks that Ms. Ferre asked [Maine] to do at her audition. “May ipapagawa ako sa yo. Kunwari walang audience. Magsisa-sisahan ka nga?” (I would ask you to do something. Pretend there is no audience. Try acting like Sisa.) [Sisa is a literary character from the socio-political novel “Noli Me Tangere” known for the psychotic fits.] Her answer surprised Alden. “Nahihiya ako.” (I’m shy.) Alden didn’t hide his shock at her remark.“Wow! Ngayon ka pa nahiya? (You now feel shy?) Alden then boosted her confidence at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode by pumping up the crowd.
Alden knew it would be easy for [Maine] to do. “Sisa lang. Mag-improvise ka.” (Just Sisa. Improvise.) She revealed that the only lines she made in doing it then were limited. “Eh Crispin Basilio lang ang sinasabi ko nun eh.” (All I ever said was ‘Crispin Basilio’) [Crispin and Basilio are Sisa’s sons. Losing them pushed her to schizophrenic psychosis.] Alden then realized that [Maine] still remembered. “Naalala mo.” (You remember.) With this, [Maine] rehashed her audition piece last 19 June 2015 for the audience to witness at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. After her impromptu performance, Alden pumped up the crowd again to applaud her.
Alden then approached [Maine] for a hug. He can’t help but comment. “Grabe! Sabi nila, ako daw yung iyakin. Ikaw pala yun.” (Damn! They said I cry easily. It turned out to be you who cries easily.) She explained the tears. “Eto naman. Siempre. Yun ang nagpabago ng buhay ko ano?” (Come on. Of course. That day changed my life.) Alden assured her that it’s not a bad thing. “Alam mo. Wag kang magalala. Parehas naman tayo eh.” (You know. Don’t worry. That makes us two.) She then focused on the 16th. “Kaso nga lang nangyari yun nung July 16.” (The thing is it all happened on July 16.) She then revealed at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode the bracelet she wore. It has the number 16 engraved on it.
Alden invited her back to their spot. [Maine] somewhat protested. Alden assured her that everything will be fine. “Hindi na kita papaiyakin.” (I won’t make you cry.) Alden and [Maine] then returned to where they sat. Allan K used this opportunity in the ALDUB 5th Monthsary to ask them. “Dalawa kayong sasagot nito ha? Bahala kayo kung sino mauna sa inyo. Ano ba ang naramdaman mo nung una kayong magkita sa split screen?” (Both of you should answer this, okay? It’s up to you who answers first. What did you feel when you first saw each other on split screen?)
The first ALDUB episode was then replayed right where YayaDUB did the Malaysian DUBsmash. It was also where she forgot that her character is supposed to be meaner/bitchier than Lola Nidora. And it was Allan K who really pointed out how YayaDUB felt conscious at Alden’s presence. Allan K then told Alden to answer first at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. “Kasi before, natutuwa talaga ako sa DUBsmash nung sumikat siya. Nagda-DUBsmash na rin ako before. So naghahanap talaga ako ng mga tao na nagda-DUBsmash dito sa Pilipinas.” (It’s because even before [July 16], I am really entertained at DUBsmash when it got famous. I DUBsmash too. So I really looked for personalities that are into DUBsmash here in the Philippines.)
In this part of the ALDUB 5t Monthsary episode, Alden addressed Maine’s DUBsmash origins. “Just so happened, nakita ko yung kay Maine. Hindi ko naman akalain na ganun siya kagaling mag-DUBsmash. So natutuwa ako kapag pinapanood ko siya. And then hindi ko in-expect na darating siya dito sa Eat Bulaga. So nagulat ako. Kasi bago pa rin ako. Bago pa rin siya nun. Natuwa po ako.” (Just so happened that I saw Maine’s clips. I didn’t expect her to be that good at DUBsmash. So I was entertained watching her. And then I didn’t expect her to come over here at Eat Bulaga. I was shocked. Because I’m still new here. And she’s also new. I was happy.)
[Alden was referring to his stint at Eat Bulaga as a regular host or “dabarkads”. He was months ahead of Maine Mendoza. While he has been in showbiz for more than 5 years now, most of it was spent in soap operas and GMA-produced variety shows. He may have stopped appearing in soaps. But he wasn’t jobless for so long. Fast forward to the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode. And he has found his most successful team-up so far.]
Allan K then turned to YayaDUB. By this point in the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode, it has become obvious that Maine Mendoza is the toast of the episode. She then answered the question as Maine. “Gulat po. Kitang kita naman po di po ba? Tapos siempre kinilig ako. Kaya po hindi ko mapigilan ang ngumiti.” (I was shocked. Isn’t it obvious? The of course I felt giddy. So I failed to suppress my smile.)
Allan K then addressed how the gesture broke the character of YayaDUB. “Hindi ka man lang ba nag-isip na parang ang layo nito sa character ko? Ang yaya, mas mataray sa lola.” (Haven’t you thought how far it would be from the character? The nanny is supposed to be bitchier than the granny.) Maine admitted the adjustments made for what turned out to be the first ALDUB episode. “Hindi ko nga po napigilan eh. Kaya tinatakpan ko po ng abaniko.” (As I said, I failed to suppress it. So I covered myself with my folding fan.)
Alden then addressed what everyone present at the ALDUB 5th Monthsary episode as the main force behind ALDUB. Allan K himself according to Alden. “Actually kundi mo naman kami tinukso. Ikaw din eh. Promotor ka rin.” (If you weren’t chiding us [we will not be a love team]. You wanted it too. You pushed for this.) Allan K had to speak for himself. “Eh kinilig din ako. Anong magagawa ko?” (I felt giddy too. What can I do?) The ALDUB 5th Monthsary ended up looking like a fans day be default since even fans threw in their questions to the couple.
