In short: Here is how to open an MP2 account: get your Pag-IBIG MID number, then enroll on Virtual Pag-IBIG’s MP2 Enrollment page with one valid ID and a selfie holding it, and make your first deposit of at least ₱500 to activate the account. MP2 runs for 5 years, its dividends are free from the 20% withholding tax, and its 2025 dividend rate was 7.12%, a past rate that Pag-IBIG’s Board sets again every year.
The Modified Pag-IBIG 2 (MP2) program is Pag-IBIG Fund’s voluntary savings plan for members who want higher returns than regular Pag-IBIG savings. You can open it, and pay into it, entirely online. This guide uses Pag-IBIG’s Virtual Pag-IBIG terms and the Pag-IBIG Fund service desk at the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo.
Who Can Open an MP2 Account?
- Active Pag-IBIG members, whatever their income.
- Former members with other income, and pensioners, whatever their age, as long as they had at least 24 monthly savings before retirement.
- Former natural-born Filipinos who reacquired Filipino citizenship under RA 9225.
You need a Pag-IBIG MID number first. If you’ve never been a member, register for a MID on Virtual Pag-IBIG. You can also open more than one MP2 account; each one is enrolled and funded separately.
Requirements
Last checked: October 24, 2026, against Virtual Pag-IBIG’s MP2 reminders and terms.
- Your Pag-IBIG MID number.
- One valid ID (a scan or photo).
- A selfie holding that same ID, no larger than 3MB. No group photos or pets in the frame.
- Proof of income or source of funds if any single payment is over ₱100,000 (a payslip, bank statement, contract of sale, loan agreement or gift letter, for example).
- Former natural-born Filipinos: a Philippine passport plus the Certificate of Reacquisition or Retention.
How to Open an MP2 Account Online
- Open the MP2 Enrollment page. Go to Virtual Pag-IBIG MP2 Enrollment. Use only Pag-IBIG’s own sites and never pay anyone to enroll you.
- Pick your classification and validate your MID. Choose Active member, Pensioner, Former natural-born Filipino or Others, then click “Validate Pag-IBIG Membership ID.”
- Enter your details and choose a payout option. Fill in your MID, name and birthdate, then pick Annual payout or Compounded (paid at maturity). You choose this once, at enrollment.
- Upload your ID and selfie, then submit. You’ll get a 12-digit MP2 account number. Save it, because every deposit uses it.
- Make your first deposit. The account becomes active once you pay at least ₱500.
A full Virtual Pag-IBIG account isn’t required to enroll, but it helps you track your savings. You activate it online with your MID, mobile number and OTP, email and ID plus selfie. Pag-IBIG says the activation SMS can take a few days.
Deposits, Fees and Limits
Last checked: October 24, 2026, against Virtual Pag-IBIG’s MP2 terms and Pay Online page.
- Minimum: ₱500 per payment, counted as of the payment date.
- Pay online: on Virtual Pag-IBIG Pay Online, choose MP2, then pay by credit or debit card, Maya or GCash. You can pay up to 38 months in advance. A convenience fee is shown before you confirm, payments can’t be refunded, and any excess goes to your next due date.
- Other channels: GCash, Maya or any Pag-IBIG branch.
- Big deposits: one-time savings over ₱500,000 must be paid by personal or manager’s check, and anything over ₱100,000 needs proof of source of funds.
Pag-IBIG’s Japan service desk also describes a ₱20 million cap on total MP2 savings per member. That rule doesn’t appear in the Virtual Pag-IBIG terms yet, so check with Pag-IBIG if you plan to save near that level.
The 5-Year Term and the MP2 Dividend Rate
Each MP2 account runs for 5 years from your first payment. When it matures you claim your savings plus dividends. Matured savings you leave unclaimed earn regular Pag-IBIG rates for 2 years.
The 2025 MP2 dividend rate was 7.12% (regular Pag-IBIG savings earned 6.62%), announced in February 2026. MP2 rates aren’t fixed: the Pag-IBIG Board declares them every year based on the Fund’s earnings, so the next rate can be higher or lower. Pag-IBIG also says MP2 earnings are free from the 20% withholding tax.
Pag-IBIG’s Japan desk mentions a newer option to roll over a matured account once, for one more 5-year term. The Virtual Pag-IBIG terms still say to open a new account after maturity, so ask Pag-IBIG which rule applies to you.
Simple MP2 Earnings Example: ₱1,000 a Month for 5 Years
You deposit ₱60,000 in total. Here’s Pag-IBIG’s own published sample, which uses the 2021–2025 average MP2 rate of 6.86%:
| Payout option | Total dividends | Total you get back |
|---|---|---|
| Annual payout | ₱10,461.50 | ₱70,461.50 |
| Compounded (paid at maturity) | ₱11,395.51 | ₱71,395.51 |
What if 2025’s 7.12% held for all 5 years? By our approximate calculation, annual payout would earn about ₱10,858 in dividends and compounding about ₱11,800 to ₱11,900. This is an illustration, not a guarantee: past rates don’t predict future ones, and Pag-IBIG’s exact crediting method can shift the figure slightly.
Compounding pays a bit more because each year’s dividend earns dividends too. Annual payout gives you cash every year instead.
Can You Withdraw Early?
Yes, but it usually costs you. You can pre-terminate without penalty for these reasons:
- total disability or insanity
- death of the member or of an immediate family member
- critical illness of the member or an immediate family member, certified by a doctor and subject to approval
- permanent departure from the country
- (Pag-IBIG regular members only) separation from work for health reasons, retirement, layoff or company closure, or OFW repatriation
- other grounds the Board approves
For any other reason, you get your savings back plus only 50% of the dividends earned. If you chose annual payout, half of the dividends you already received is deducted from your savings.
MP2 vs a Digital Bank: Which Fits Your Money?
| Pag-IBIG MP2 | Digital bank savings | |
|---|---|---|
| Return | 7.12% for 2025, set yearly by the Board | About 3.00% to 4.00% p.a. base rates in our October 2026 check, and banks can change them anytime |
| Tax on earnings | Free from 20% withholding tax | Deposit interest is generally subject to 20% final tax |
| Access | Locked for 5 years, with a 50% dividend cut for most early withdrawals | Withdraw anytime |
| Best for | Money you won’t touch for 5 years | Emergency fund and short-term goals |
Many savers use both: they keep an emergency fund in a digital bank and put long-term money in MP2. Compare current rates in our digital bank rates guide.
