Short answer: If your cat eats treats daily, price per gram matters more than the sticker price, and an 80g pack of fish-shaped cat biscuits at ₱55 works out to about ₱0.69 per gram, roughly half of what popular branded treats cost per gram at the stores we checked. Branded packs like Temptations and Friskies Party Mix ran ₱1.35 to ₱2.15 per gram on October 27, 2026, so the cheaper pack only makes sense if your cat actually likes it and you stick to the 10% treat rule.
Ang pusa mo, may sariling budget line na. Treats look cheap per pack, pero kapag araw-araw, it adds up fast. This guide does the per-gram math, then covers how to choose, how many to give, how to store them in our humidity, and who a budget biscuit pack is (and isn’t) for.
How much do cat treats cost per gram in the Philippines?
We checked online listings on October 27, 2026 and divided the price by the pack weight. Prices change by store and branch, so treat this as a snapshot, not a promise.
| Treat | Pack | Price seen | Price per gram | Where |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yaho Cat Biscuits, Mixed Flavor | 80g | ₱55 | about ₱0.69 | Bulk Bayan (plus courier fee) |
| Temptations (Chicken) | 85g | ₱115 | about ₱1.35 | Pet Express SM Makati via Pickaroo |
| Temptations Mix Up | 85g | ₱129 | about ₱1.52 | Pet Kingdom |
| Friskies Party Mix (Mixed Grill) | 60g | ₱95 | about ₱1.58 | Savemore Acacia via Pickaroo |
| Friskies Party Mix (Beachside) | 60g | ₱95.30 | about ₱1.59 | Ace Market |
| Friskies Party Mix (Beachside) | 60g | ₱129 | about ₱2.15 | Pet Express online |
Quick math: 100g of treats at ₱0.69 per gram is about ₱69, versus about ₱135 to ₱215 for the branded packs above. The catch is that these are not the same product. Temptations are crunchy outside with a soft center, and the Pet Express listing says they meet AAFCO nutrient levels. The Yaho biscuits are a simple crunchy fish-shaped snack, and the listing does not state calories per piece. So compare price first, then check whether your cat agrees.
How do you choose a cat treat that’s worth the money?
- Divide price by grams. A ₱55 pack can be cheaper or pricier than a ₱95 pack depending on weight. Always do the per-gram check.
- Read the age line. The Yaho listing says the biscuits suit all cats over 1 month old. For young kittens, ask your vet first, since growing kittens need their calories from complete kitten food.
- Look for calorie info. If the pack doesn’t list calories, WSAVA suggests asking the manufacturer. Until then, measure by weight and keep portions small.
- Be careful with health claims. The Yaho listing says the snack helps prevent hairballs. We couldn’t verify that, so buy it as a snack, not as a remedy.
- Start with one pack. Cats are picky. Test one pack before you stock up on several.
- Size and shape matter. WSAVA advises choosing a treat size and shape that lowers choking risk, and supervising your cat with chews and treats.
How many cat treats can you give a day?
The common vet rule is that treats should be no more than about 10% of your cat’s daily calories. VCA Animal Hospitals uses 10%, and the Cornell Feline Health Center says 10 to 15%. The rest should come from a complete and balanced cat food, because most treats are not complete.
For a sense of scale, WSAVA’s treat guide puts the treat allowance for an average healthy adult cat at about 20 calories a day at 3 kg and about 22 calories at 4 kg. That’s not a lot. Temptations, for example, are listed at fewer than 2 calories per piece, so a handful adds up quickly. If your cat is chubby, on a vet diet or has a medical condition, ask your vet before adding treats.
Skip milk as a treat too. Cornell notes many cats are lactose-intolerant. If you really want a milk treat, see our lactose-free pet milk buyer’s guide.
How should you store cat treats in humid weather?
Dry treats go soft and stale fast in our weather once the bag is open. Guidance from the US FDA and the AVMA boils down to this:
- Keep the original bag. It has the lot number and best-by date you need if there’s ever a problem.
- Seal it, then box it. Fold and clip the bag, then put the whole bag in a clean, dry container with a tight lid.
- Keep it cool and dry, below 80°F (about 27°C), away from the stove and direct sun.
- Hide it from the cat. The FDA warns that pets who get into the stash can eat too much at once.
- Wash your hands after handling pet food and treats, and use the oldest pack first.
Who is a ₱55 bulk biscuit pack for?
- Multi-cat homes where treats disappear in a week and the per-gram savings actually show.
- Owners training a cat to use a carrier, come when called or sit still for nail trims, since small rewards add up.
- Budget-minded fur parents who want a simple crunchy snack, not a premium one.
It’s probably not for cats on a prescription diet, cats with food allergies, or owners who want listed calories and detailed nutrition claims on the pack. Bulk Bayan ships orders by courier from Quezon City, so add a few other pet staples to the same cart to spread the delivery fee. You can check the 80g cat biscuit pack here. Got a dog too? See our guide to bulk dog treats for training.
What should you watch out for after giving treats?
Introduce any new treat slowly and watch for vomiting or loose stool. On hairballs, Cornell says bringing one up every week or two is not unusual, but a cat that is lethargic, refuses food for more than a day or two, or keeps retching without bringing anything up should see a vet without delay (Cornell: The Danger of Hairballs). Cats that vomit more than once a week should also be checked (Cornell: Vomiting). For fur control, Cornell’s tips start with regular brushing and combing, not snacks (Cornell: A Hairy Dilemma).
Frequently asked questions
What is the cheapest cat treat per gram in the Philippines?
Of the packs we checked on October 27, 2026, an 80g pack of fish-shaped cat biscuits at ₱55 from Bulk Bayan came out cheapest at about ₱0.69 per gram, before the courier fee. Friskies Party Mix 60g cost about ₱1.58 to ₱2.15 per gram and Temptations 85g about ₱1.35 to ₱1.52 per gram at the stores we checked.
How many treats can I give my cat a day?
Keep treats to about 10% of your cat’s daily calories, says VCA Animal Hospitals. Cornell’s Feline Health Center puts the ceiling at 10 to 15%. WSAVA’s chart puts that at roughly 22 calories a day from treats for an average healthy 4 kg adult cat. Ask your vet for your own cat’s number.
Can cat treats replace cat food?
No. Most treats are not complete and balanced, so they should stay a small extra on top of a complete cat food.
How do I keep cat treats from going stale in humid weather?
Keep them in the original bag, squeeze out the air and seal it, then put the whole bag in a clean, dry container with a tight lid. The FDA and AVMA say to store dry pet food in a cool, dry place below 80°F, or about 27°C.
