The Philippines Web is an independent Philippine news and explainer site. We publish clear, sourced reporting and practical guides for Filipinos at home and for OFWs and their families abroad, covering the stories that shape daily life, from the courts and Congress to prices, remittances and benefits.
What is our mission?
Our mission is simple: explain what is happening and what it means for you, in plain language, with the sources to back it up. We want a jeepney driver in Cebu, a nurse in Riyadh and a student in Quezon City to finish an article knowing more than when they started, and knowing where the facts came from.
What do we cover?
- Nation: national government, Congress, local issues and the news that affects Filipinos across the archipelago.
- Justice & Order: courts, impeachment and high-profile trials, law enforcement and plain-English legal explainers and glossaries.
- Defense: the West Philippine Sea, the Armed Forces, alliances and national security.
- International: world events and how they affect the Philippines and Filipinos overseas.
- Economy: prices, wages, holiday pay rules, remittances, exchange rates and personal finance for OFWs and families.
- Opinion: commentary and analysis, always clearly labeled as opinion.
- Smart Shopper: practical buying guides and money-saving tips.
What are our editorial standards?
- Sourced facts. Factual claims are based on official documents, court records, government agencies, data releases and credible reporting, and we link to sources wherever we can. We do not publish invented quotes, figures or events.
- Opinion is labeled. News and explainers report what is known. Commentary appears in the Opinion desk and is marked as opinion so readers can tell the difference.
- Corrections. When we get something wrong, we fix it. Significant corrections are noted in the article with the date of the change. To report an error, use our Contact page.
- Updates. Rules, rates and figures change. Practical guides carry a date or “checked on” note, and we revise them when official numbers change.
- Independence. Advertisers and affiliate partners have no say in what we cover or how we cover it.
How is The Philippines Web funded?
The site is free to read. It is funded by display advertising and by affiliate and referral links. When you sign up for a service or buy something through some links, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Articles that contain referral links disclose it, and our Privacy Policy explains how advertising and affiliate partners use cookies.
