Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information The Philippines Web (thephilippinesweb.com, “we”, “us” or “the site”) collects when you visit, how that information is used, which third parties may collect data through the site, and the choices and rights you have. By using the site you agree to the practices described here.

What information do we collect?

Server logs

Like almost every website, our web host automatically records standard technical information whenever a page is requested. This includes your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, the page you requested, the referring page, and the date and time of the visit. These logs are used to keep the site secure, diagnose errors, block abusive traffic and understand overall load. They are kept only as long as needed for those purposes.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We and our partners use cookies, local storage and similar technologies to remember preferences, measure how the site is used, show advertising and track affiliate referrals. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; parts of the site may work differently if you do.

Analytics (Burst Statistics)

We use Burst Statistics, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that runs on our own server. It records aggregated information such as which pages are viewed, how long visitors stay, the referring site, device type and approximate country. Burst data is stored on our own hosting and is not sold or shared with advertisers. We use it only to understand which articles readers find useful.

Comments

If comments are enabled on an article and you leave one, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, the comment text, and your IP address and browser user agent to help detect spam. Your email address is never published. Comments and their metadata may be kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically.

Information you send us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in the message. We use it only to reply, act on a correction or tip, or keep a record of the exchange.

How do third-party advertisers use your data?

The site is funded partly by advertising. Third-party vendors may place and read cookies on your browser, or use web beacons and IP addresses, to serve and measure ads.

Google AdSense and the DoubleClick cookie

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.
  • To learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services, read How Google uses cookies in advertising.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland may be shown a consent message before personalized ads are served, as required by Google’s EU user consent policy.

Adsterra native ads

We display native advertising units supplied by Adsterra. Adsterra and its advertisers may use cookies, device identifiers and your IP address to select ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure clicks and prevent fraud. See Adsterra’s own privacy policy for details on how it handles that data.

Skimlinks affiliate link tracking

We use Skimlinks, a service that automatically turns some ordinary links to online merchants into affiliate links. When you click such a link, Skimlinks may set cookies and record information such as the page you came from, the link clicked, your IP address and browser type, so that the merchant can credit the site if you make a purchase. Skimlinks does not receive your name or payment details from us. You can read more and opt out at Skimlinks’ privacy policy page.

Do we earn money from links on this site?

Yes. Some links on The Philippines Web are affiliate or referral links. If you sign up for a service or make a purchase through one of them, we may earn a commission or referral bonus at no extra cost to you. Referral programs we currently take part in include Wise, MariBank, Coins.ph, UnionBank and Holo AI, along with merchant links handled through Skimlinks. Articles that contain referral links say so. Commissions never decide what we report, and we only recommend services we believe are relevant to our readers. Always check fees, terms and regulatory status yourself before opening any financial account.

How do we use the information we collect?

  • To run, secure and improve the site and fix technical problems.
  • To understand which articles and guides are most useful to readers.
  • To show advertising and track affiliate referrals that fund the site.
  • To moderate comments and reply to messages, corrections and tips.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as government ID numbers, health data or financial account details.

What are your rights under the Philippine Data Privacy Act?

If you are in the Philippines, the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) gives you, as a data subject, the right to:

  • be informed that your personal data is being collected and processed;
  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • object to processing, including processing for direct marketing;
  • have inaccurate data corrected (rectification);
  • have your data erased or blocked where it is incomplete, outdated, unlawfully obtained or no longer needed;
  • data portability, where applicable;
  • claim damages for inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, false or unlawfully obtained data; and
  • file a complaint with the National Privacy Commission.

What rights do visitors from the EU, UK and California have?

GDPR (EU/EEA and UK). We process data on the basis of our legitimate interest in running and securing the site, your consent for advertising cookies where consent is required, and legal obligations. You have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of your personal data, to object to processing, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

CCPA/CPRA (California). California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used and shared, to request deletion or correction, to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information for money; to limit ad-related sharing, use the Google Ads Settings and industry opt-out links above or your browser’s Global Privacy Control setting.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by applicable law.

How long do we keep data and how is it protected?

We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. The site is served over HTTPS, and access to the site’s administration is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable organizational and technical measures to protect the data we hold.

Is the site intended for children?

The Philippines Web is a general news and explainer site and is not directed at children under 13 (or under the minimum age set by law in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other websites

Our articles link to government sources, news outlets, banks and other third-party sites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please review their policies when you visit them.

Will this policy change?

We may update this Privacy Policy when our practices, partners or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top shows when it was last revised. Significant changes will be noted on this page. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
