It seems as if everything went to a screeching halt in The #AlDubMaybeThisTime Episode. There was less than usual traffic on the streets. Everyone’s plugged on their accounts online. The internet even slowed down with all that activity going on Facebook, Twitter and, of course, Instagram. Instagram is where YayaDUB first established her reign as the Queen of Dubsmash. And her territory has extended over to Eat Bulaga. Yet, she was so close to finally meeting Alden Richards.
And everyone is upset! Congratulations, Eat Bulaga! You have created the new villain to reckon with – Lola Nidora. And her underhanded tactics to keep AlDub a reality are as stinky as her name. The #AlDubMaybeThisTime Episode could have been the one event. It could have broken the internet. Here’s the thing. AlDub has yet to meet in person. But they already broke the internet.
The hashtag #HopiaPaMore almost trended. If not for the #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode’s main hasthag #AlDubMaybeThisTime. As of 2:38pm Philippine time, it was trending worldwide at 728K tweets. It was a long stretch from the next trending topic. You can easily imagine teens and yuppies complaining about the internet freezing or slowing down. This much anticipation and … and … another “could have been”.
Could the wanting indeed be better than the having? What really happened in the #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode? Everyone can see the euphoria dying down much much later. From boiling point to a simmer, that is. Most fans would need to go to the washroom and wipe off some tears. Some were just “Ugh! I’ve been had!” The running joke is that some high school and college students really skipped class. They wanted to witness this “salubong”. We can’t call it a reunion. They’ve never met. And the commentary provided by Lola Nidora is a nice topic to discuss in another article.
In case you have been living under a rock, Maine Mendoza a.k.a. YayaDUB was already discussed here. She was mentioned in our Top 10 Philippine Hot Women. She was also referred to as the Filipino Dubsmash Queen in this article. She and her better half of the AlDub tandem, Alden Richards, have been hogging the trending topics worldwide for several days now. For someone who started out in Dubsmash just for kicks, she has gone a long way, baby. The psychedelia that raptured online was evident in the #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode.
The major social media accounts are abuzz. The techies and nerds are secretly wishing that even Meerkat and Periscope managed to record some snippets of the meeting that never was. Those who missed the #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode were secretly thankful that no meeting occurred yet. Because they want to be there LIVE! Even some fans of Eat Bulaga’s rival noontime program Showtime would switch channels the moment it’s KiligSerye time. As resident “dabarkads” Joey de Leon himself said, to rephrase, it’s like Pacquiao all over again.
The unpredictability in the #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode is paradoxically expected. If there is one soap opera that survived without a script, the AlDub soap would be it. Improv acting is one of the keys behind the survival of Eat Bulaga as a noontime program. But that also meant putting in a cast of characters that would know what to do. They should know how to get a story going based not on a script but a story format. And even if Wally Bayola would occasionally switch between staying in character and breaking character, he did not let his “mali-mali” tendencies forget his role. Because every riveting soap opera needs a villain, no matter how stereotypical. The delaying tactics should have served as a hint to fans. But NO!!!!!!!!!!!
Everybody’s brains are conflicted in the #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode. They know that they MIGHT not meet because it’s Wednesday. But they wanted the couple badly to meet NOW. They can’t wait for Saturday anymore! And most special episodes occur on a Saturday. When did you see a couple not meet and get everyone else to root for them to meet finally? Everyone is in the moment and then YayaDUB ran away to avoid some curse.
Who wrote this? This is way better than most soaps today. Then again, the magic of AlDub as presented here in the #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode is in the anticipation. Hopeless romantics would often preach that the wanting is sweeter than the having. Emotional wrecks often have to live with that reality. And for a story that captured the world (not just the nation), the anticipation is just too much. Some fans might end up looking for some valium now to calm themselves the soonest.
So when would ALDUB finally meet. The #AlDubMaybeThisTime episode left everyone hanging. There are more questions left for everyone to ponder. Send your queries to the Eat Bulaga Facebook Page. Don’t forget to click “Like” in case you haven’t. There would be a world awaiting for that “tamang panahon” (right time).
