President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined his fellow Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders for a Special ASEAN Summit on the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) via video conferencing at 9:00 AM on April 14, 2020 (Manila time).
The ASEAN Leaders tackled the different issues concerning COVID-19 and shared collaborative efforts to address the pandemic currently threatening the whole region. The Leaders are expected to adopt the Joint Statement issued by the ASEAN Health Ministers in a video conferencing last April 7, 2020.
It called for an enhanced regional cooperation between the ASEAN Member States in terms of information sharing for the prevention of COVID-19, as well as strengthened the provisions for an effective national healthcare system throughout the region.
