Special Envoy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs (PAFA) Robert E.A. Borje, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Arriola and Ambassador Adnan Alonto of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia meet with His Excellency Ahmad Sulaiman Al Rahji, Minister of Human Resource and Social Development (MHRSD) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 20 June 2021.
During the meeting, PAFA Borje renews the commitment of the Philippine Government with Saudi Arabia to further improve its strong partnership with the Arab country. Likewise, he underscores the important role that migrant workers play, most especially the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Kingdom’s development.
The Special Envoy also conveys President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s positive response on the launching of labor reform initiatives as a significant move towards addressing the issues surrounding the current sponsorship system in the Kingdom.
Emphasizing the Philippines’ commitment in working with the Kingdom in implementing labor reform initiatives, PAFA Borje also discusses matters related to the advancement of the rights and welfare of migrant workers employed in the Kingdom. Furthermore, he expresses the Philippine Government’s optimism that the Kingdom will consider workers in the domestic labor sector in its labor reform initiatives in the future.
This meeting is part of the series of activities of PAFA Borje in his second assignment as Special Envoy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In 2019, he was also appointed by the President as Special Envoy to Bahrain and Tunisia.
