President Rodrigo Roa Duterte convenes several Cabinet members to discuss the latest developments in the government’s response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation in the country, as well as various pressing matters confronting the nation, in his weekly Talk to the People on COVID-19.
As government continues implementing the vaccination program, President Duterte once again advocates for the safety and effectiveness of the available vaccines, urging his kababayans to get vaccinated in order to control the spread and adverse effects of COVID-19. Negotiations are also ongoing for additional vaccine procurement, wherein millions of vaccines from different pharmaceutical companies are expected to arrive in the country this second quarter, majority of which will be supplied by June. In terms of vaccination, more than a million Filipinos have already been inoculated.
The President acknowledges the shortage of vaccine supply in the country due to an increase in global demand, but reassures the people that government is expediting negotiations with the pharmaceutical companies to fast track the procurement.
Furthermore, he instructs the concerned government agencies to continue monitoring the economic impact of the pandemic and various measures that government can implement to mitigate these.
The Chief Executive also addresses several areas of concerns such as the West Philippine Sea, updates on the Build, Build, Build program, and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), among others.
