Steps and cost
It should be simple if there are no hiccups.
1 – Smoke Emission Test – Motorcycle LTO renewal
Cost 470php
Time 2 – 4 hours wait
How? Go to any Smoke Emission center with a photocopy of your OR / CR, and plate verification document (if you have a temporary plate).
Possible problem: if you have a temporary plate, but have no official permission to use it then step 1.1: get temporary authorization from the LTO.
1.1 – Plate Verification Document – Motorcycle LTO renewal
You need to go to the original LTO of the vehicle, not to any LTO.
So call or visit an LTO near you and they can tell you where to get your plate (it could be at the brand dealership where you bought the motor) or the temporary authorization (Plate Verification document).
Time: half-day investigation and travels.
Cost: free.
Bring a photocopy of your OR / CR.
2. TPL Insurance – Motorcycle LTO renewal
You need TPL insurance, many times sold in the same venue as any LTO (talk about conflict of interest).
Cost for small motor: 690php.
Time: 1 hour.
3. Final paperwork – Motorcycle LTO renewal
Go to any LTO with: a photocopy and original OR / CR, insurance, smoke emission papers, and driver’s license too just in case.
Cost: 255 PHP
Time: 1-2 hour
Total cost like half a day and 1,500 PHP including some tips.
Next year repeat the process.
