President Rodrigo Roa Duterte conferred the Order of Lapu-Lapu to several personnel of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) in a ceremony at the Malacañang Golf (MALAGO) Clubhouse in Malacañang Park, Manila.
These brave men and women of the PGH first led the evacuation of patients and newborn babies when fire broke out on the third floor of the government-run hospital on the wee hours of May 16, 2021: Dr. Rodney Dofitas, Safety Officer Joel Santiago, Security Officer Ramil Ranoa, Nurse Quintin Bagay, Jr., Dr. Alexandra Lee, Dr. Earle Ceo Abrenica, Nurse Jomar Mallari, Nurse Kathrina Bianca Macababbad, Nurse Phoebe Rose Malabanan and Nurse Esmeralda Ninto.
Aside from the conferment, Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go filed Senate Resolution No. 733 on May 24, 2021 to honor the heroism and bravery that the PGH medical staff had shown during the incident.
