With more than 12 million doses of vaccines administered throughout the country so far, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte encouraged more Filipinos to get vaccinated at the soonest possible time to prevent the further spread of the virus, as more than one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines from the Government of Japan arrived in the Philippines.
As the government continues to advocate for the safety and efficacy of the available vaccines, President Duterte assured his countrymen that his administration remains committed in acquiring sufficient supplies in order to inoculate majority of the Filipino population.
With the donation shipment from Japan, the President expressed his gratitude towards the Japanese government for working with the Philippines in ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines.
“Japan continues to be our strong partner in various development programs. Our cooperation in fighting the pandemic is truly an indication of the deep friendship between our two countries,” the Chief Executive said.
A total of 1,124,100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines were donated to the Philippines as part of Japan’s initiative to support Southeast Asian countries amid the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
Since last year, the Japanese government supported the country in its COVID-19 response through the Crisis Response Emergency Loan (CRESL), Post-Disaster Standby Loan Phase 2 (PDSL 2), procurement of medical equipment and laboratory surveillance sites, and a grant for cold chain facility development.
Likewise, President Duterte commended the efforts of the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 and the Department of Health (DOH) for ensuring the successful delivery, distribution and rollout of vaccines across the country.
As more supplies of COVID-19 vaccines continue to arrive, NTF Against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. said the country is expecting 47 million doses of vaccines by the end of August from different manufacturers.
