#AlDubHihintayinKita – The AlDub You MaAlden Kita #HappyALDUBDAY exchange on Eat Bulaga yesterday broke the internet all over again. Everyone’s fighting the urge to go to the bathroom. Because too much “kilig” (giddiness) can cause bladders to fill up and break. And perhaps a few imploded ovaries too. Either way, the world (not just the Philippines) is overjoyed that despite Lola Nidora’s schemes (more like antics) YayaDUB refuses to give up on Alden Richards.
About midnight of August 14, 2015, the faithful AlDub devotees have prepared the hashtag #AlDubHihintayinKita. This shows the kind of devotion and loyalty that the new love team has earned in just a short period of time. Analyzing the popularity that this worldwide trendsetter, why was it so successful?
5. Very minimal drama
The closest that this AlDub KalyeSerye could get to a drama are provided by Lola Nidora and Frankie Arenolli. And they still come across as parodies of overused tropes in soap operas. Well, soap operas in the Philippines get called “teleserye” now because sponsorship is no longer limited to laundry detergent soap. But most tropes still exist in daily programs like teleseryes. This caused the skeptics to claim that there isn’t anything special about AlDub. Either they are in denial that they were moved with the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange or they refuse to get off their high horse.
Then again, that is why most people watch light-hearted fare like AlDub. There is too much drama already happening in life now. Philippine entertainment exists because people need a break from their stressful lives. And not everyone has a healthy way of reacting to stress either. Not that they deny that their lives occasionally attract stress. It’s just that managing stress should include amusing yourself with heartwarming segments. The AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange made the world forget about their problems for awhile. Just awhile. No need to forget them entirely. Everyone needs a break. Even just 15 or 20 minutes. It’s usually the time that AlDub gets on air to exchange sweet gestures to one another.
4. Immunity to negative vibes
No matter how happy you are online, there would still be people out there planning to rain on your parade. They are affected with the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange. But it produced the opposite effect. They reacted in a way that would make them even more resentful about their lives. And they want to take everyone else into the abyss of negativity that they are wallowing into. And it didn’t work. Actually it’s too late for them to realize that any negativity would work on the faithful AlDub devotees.
We have 2 people here who fell for one another. They express their love and admiration for each other. This despite all efforts by Lola Nidora to keep them separated. Technically, they are still separated. But technology made them communicate with each other through monitors. The AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange is born! This brings us to our next point.
3. Falling for someone you never met in person
Not that it’s a bad thing. The AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange proved how some relationships blossom with the help of technology. And people feel good about it particularly the young. If ever Lola Nidora considered it a bad thing. It is because she thought that Alden had it too easy with YayaDUB. She knew that much about AlDub today is because of YayaDUB flirting on camera every time the main Eat Bulaga studio monitor shifts to Alden. Also, most viewers that have been watching YayaDUB saw her as Lola Nidora’s equally snobbish assistant. She learned to smile and be happy the moment she saw Alden.
And Alden is respondent to YayaDUB’s affections. Every teenybopper knew the feeling of exhilaration whenever their crushes respond to their flirtations. It happens leading up to the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange. Nothing too special. Just the right emotions to get everyone rooting for the couple because it strikes a nerve on their dating lifestyles. Social media often takes the blame for that. Then again, unlike couples who have met in person through Tinder or WhatsApp, AlDub has yet to meet in person. And the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange just added fuel to the fire of excitement.
2. The Dubsmash Exchange
In the early days of the AlDub story, the only way Alden responds to the barrage of Dubsmash digs that YayaDUB did is through “Twerk It Like Miley”. This was one of the first instances where Lola Nidora got annoyed with Alden. It’s as if “Twerk It Like Miley” is his one-size-fits-all reply to practically anything that YayaDUB said. Eventually, he had to switch to more romantic fare. The kind that led to the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange.
Whoever is in charge of the spinner knew that a good mix of Top 40 pop fare and OPM love songs would do the trick. Before the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange, playlists were already assembled. Some of YayaDUB’s Dubsmash hits were “Because of You” by Kyla, “Para Sa Yo” by Aiza Seguerra and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship. Alden’s hit Dubsmash responses were “Always Be My Baby” by David Cook, “God Gave Me You” by Brian White and “Makita Kang Muli” by Sugarfree. But since not all lyrics could express best what YayaDUB and Alden felt for real, signboards had to take over. This brings us to our next point in the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange.
1. Signboards, signboards, signboards!!!!!!!!
And even more signboards showing AlDubYou MaAlden Kita! These signboards gave birth to a new way to express love, affection and loyalty: AlDub You MaAlden Kita. No song recorded on Dubsmash can ever duplicate the uniqueness and sincerity. Unlike the AlDub You MaAlden Kita exchange. If love is true, even if the voice is non-existent, there would always be ways to express true love. It’s cute gestures like these that made AlDub the kind of couple everyone would like to be. It’s the kind of relationship that teenyboppers, yuppies and even middle-aged professionals would like to find themselves in. It’s the kind of hope that keeps the romantic in the Philippine audience alive.
