Fans were all giddy and excited at the thought of AlDub finally meeting in person. Then again, for Lola Nidora, not so fast. In fact, she addressed the elephant in the room. YayaDUB and Alden became a couple so fast to think that they have never met in person.
Lola Nidora then bewailed the days gone by. The days when virile Filipino men would work hard to win their beloved maiden’s hand in marriage. The days when virile Filipino men would fetch water by the community well in service to the maiden’s family. Those were the days when these men would go as far as chopping wood. Firewood is needed for cooking as stoves were not yet existent during Lola Nidora’s time. No faucets either. Hence the water-fetching job. In short, a true virile Filipino man would subject himself to servitude to prove his love for his one true love. And eventually win her hand in marriage. The AlDub vs Lola Nidora predicament is a travesty for her.
Sounds familiar? You may have heard from this from your most conservative grandmother. Or online. Social media gave rise to democracy that allowed even the fossilized conservatives to express their frustrations online. They are the first to react every time some wayward teens would post sweet nothings about their love lives when they barely finished high school. The kind of prudish matrons who would wail at how the youth today got everything so easy. No hard work. No rationality applied in relationships. Just hormones. The AlDub vs Lola Nidora feud summed all of those best in that brief commentary that Lola Nidora provided.
Did the millenials really had it too easy? Maybe. To an extent, it served as a contrast to the typical teleserye where not much social media is involved. Also in the point of view of Lola Nidora, Alden did not deserve YayaDUB. Well, not so fast. It may be one of her excuses to keep AlDub apart. But it’s the kind of commentary that only a few could manage to absorb. Not because it’s not true. But because it’s true. Burn!

In real life, after raging hormones are overtaken by reality during and after the eyeball, what then? Relationships reach a boiling point, that’s a fact. But what could be next? Will it fizzle out? Or will it stay warm albeit reduced to a simmer? Keeping the relationship hot without letting it fizzle out is one key to managing them. And most of the time, it sounds easier said than done.
