ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us: No Letting Go

The ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode shows YayaDUB packing her things. Donya Tidora and Lola Nidora noticed that her baggage is quite too big for a 2-day orientation. Both of them then tried to entertain her. Lola Nidora invited YayaDUB for their usual “Pabebe DUBsmash”. YayaDUB is really not in the mood to DUBsmash. She hasn’t even talked in the first minutes of the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. So since she wouldn’t, Donya Tidora thought of taking YayaDUB’s place for the meantime in their usual DUBsmash routine. YayaDUB is really not herself these past few days.

YayaDUB was already coping with a major depressive episode in her life when Cindy arrived. Cindy was still in her usual routine of trying to win the grannies over at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. Donya Tidora tried to be polite with her though and asked what was she there for. Cindy replied. “I just came here to say hello. And Frankie said that we will see each other. And he wants me to try balut and isaw.” Lola Nidora had trouble understanding Cindy due to her thick Russian accent. It took Senator Tito of the KalyeSerye commentary panel to tell them what’s going on. Donya Tidora was amused since “isaw” (grilled chicken intestines) was also YayaDUB’s favorite snack.

Lola Nidora then pulled Cindy aside for an honest question. “Do you like Frankie?” Cindy somewhat gave Lola Nidora the run around at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “You know, Lola? I’m getting married to this Alden. But Frankie is so nice and so handsome. He looked better than Alden. He is a unique guy then funny. But I’m getting married with Alden. So late.” Lola Nidora asked a clarification from Donya Tidora. The latter can understand Cindy’s answer despite the Russian accent.

Listening to Cindy gave Lola Nidora an upset stomach. Lola Nidora then asked Cindy if she has talked about it to Donya Babah. “If you don’t love Alden, you should not get married. You know, Cindy. Love is not a game. You should be sure about it.” It was a stark contrast to how Frankie genuinely loved YayaDUB. He even had to exploit Lola Nidora’s financial situation then as portrayed in the ALDUB Against All Odds episode. Cindy explained herself at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “Yes. But we can always get divorced.” So Cindy would push through with the wedding only to proceed with divorce later?

The mere mention of divorce was enough to snap Lola Nidora. “Divorce? No! No! No! No! No! No! No! That’s not how it should be. We don’t believe in divorce. Marriage is sacred. It’s a promise to love each other forever.” Cindy then came clean with the real reason behind the wedding plans. “But I have to do it for my family’s business. If I will not do it, we will go bankrupt.” This is in contrast to Lola Nidora’s situation. It was Cindy’s family who needed the money. Lola Nidora minced no words at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “Ipa-bankrupt mo!” (Then let it go bankrupt!) It was easy for her to say this as she got away with almost pimping YayaDUB then. Also, she retrieved her diary in time for the end of the KalyeSerye Book 1.

Frankie Arenolli then arrived with pants by Swarovski, polo shirt by Godiva and jacket by Lamborghini. In short, all brands where they should not be. He carried a bouquet of flowers and a dish of “isaw” at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. And so there was no more bad blood between Lola Nidora and Frankie Arenolli. All because of YayaDUB. Only YayaDUB was not happy to see her ex-fiance. Frankie went straight to business and gave his gifts to Cindy. Cindy was so happy. “You’re so cute.” Frankie agreed. “I know I’m cute.”

Frankie used the Filipino hospitality in being nice to Cindy. He almost forgot to pay his respects to Lola Nidora and Donya Tidora. Donya Tinidora still wasn’t around as of the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. And this time, Frankie DUBsmashes too. He must have been smitten with Cindy enough to use this technique to attract. But he DUBsmashed “It’s Too Late” by Fra Lippo Lippi. It was clearly a case of attraction in the wrong time. Cindy may not have acquired Frankie’s accent yet. But Frankie clearly has acquired Cindy’s accent.

In the middle of the sweetness between the what-could-have-been couple at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. Frankie offered some “isaw” to YayaDUB too. The KalyeSerye commentary panel found it a little awkward to even remind YayaDUB about the “isaw”. YayaDUB is still not talking. Lola Nidora suggested some tricks to dupe YayaDUB into eating again. Frankie suggested against it as it might prick YayaDUB at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. Both were convincing YayaDUB to eat when an SUV horn honked outside.

It was Alden arriving on the spot at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. He arrived to stop YayaDUB from leaving. He promised days ago that he will fix this situation. But he wanted it solved with YayaDUB just close by. Alden DUBsmashed a cover of Yeng Constantino’s “Ikaw”. YayaDUB then replied by DUBsmashing Tootsie Guevarra’s “Nang Dahil sa Pag-Ibig”. Alden hasn’t entered the house yet. But he already got into a DUBsmash exchange with YayaDUB. So Alden was clearly the only one that could get YayaDUB to function again. Even just in DUBsmash mode.

Alden coughed up enough courage to enter the house where Lola Nidora’s entourage settled for the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. YayaDUB stayed close to Lola Nidora to avoid breaking down. After paying his respects to Donya Tidora and Lola Nidora. Alden directly addressed YayaDUB. “Kausapin mo naman ako.” (Please talk to me.) YayaDUB claimed that she has told Alden what he needed to know. “Alden, nasabi ko na lahat.” (Alden, I’ve told you everything.) Alden wanted none of it. “Ang labo naman.” (That’s complicated.)

YayaDUB snapped at Alden’s remark at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “Ako pa ngayon ang malabo. Nilinaw ko na nga sa yo lahat kahapon tapos ako pa yung malabo. Para hindi ka na mahirapan di ba? Lola mo na lang yung piliin mo, Alden.” (So I am complicated now. I already clarified everything to you yesterday and I am the one who’s complicated. So that it won’t be difficult on you right? Choose your grandmother instead, Alden.) Alden moved closer to YayaDUB to insist his stance at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. YayaDUB used Lola Nidora as buffer instead.

Alden retorted YayaDUB’s other plans though. “Yun ba talaga ang problema? O yung kagustuhan mong mag-aral ulit?” (Is that really the problem? Or your plans to study again?) Lola Nidora sensed that Alden was furious beneath the cool exterior at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “Sandali ha? Baka mabigwasan ako dito.” (Wait a minute. I might get hit here.) Donya Tidora just told her to calm down. Lola Nidora convinced them to talk in a calm manner. YayaDUB was defensive and Alden was aggressive. “Alden, Yaya, nakukuha naman ang lahat sa magandang usapan.” (Everything can be settled in a nice manner.)

Frankie tried to intervene at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “Hi, Alden. You know I don’t want fight okay? Maybe I can help you. I can marry Cindy if you want.” Frankie’s suggestion shocked Cindy. Cindy had to speak for herself. “But it’s not so easy.” Frankie nipped any perceptions Cindy had about the wedding. “No. It isn’t easy for me. It’s really hard for me.” Then Frankie faced Lola Nidora’s entourage about his true feelings about the possibility of marrying Cindy. “Kahit lugi ako. akakasalan ko ito.” (Even if I’m at a loss. I’d marry her.) Donya Tidora was perplexed in asking Frankie. “Ikaw pa yung lugi?” (You’re at a loss?) The KalyeSerye commentary panel can’t suppress their laughter at Frankie’s claim.

Cindy had to clarify herself to Frankie.“I like you too. But you know I have committed to Lola Babah.” Frankie justified his intention to marry Cindy right there and then. “But I’m starting to like you.” Cindy insisted on going through the wedding even after it’s clear why she agreed to it. “But it’s impossible. It can’t be.” Frankie then asked Cindy herself. “You want to marry me?” Cindy’s reply further implicated her at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “I can’t think about it. It’s already tomorrow.” Cindy herself announced the wedding date at the ALDUB Runaway episode. 28 November 2015.

Frankie gave Cindy time to think about it. Cindy had to admit it. “I don’t know.” Frankie was exasperated at Cindy’s indecisiveness. “Ikaw pa magiisip? Ano ito?” (You even had to think about it? What the heck?) Just like in the days when he wanted to marry YayaDUB. Frankie still considered himself to be quite a catch. With Frankie unable to convince Cindy, Alden found time to beg YayaDUB to talk to him. Lola Nidora thought it best to go to their Sugod Bahay errand for the meantime at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. .

Lola Nidora gave the “friends” some advice at the ALDUB Dont Give Us On Us episode. “Sana pagbalik namin ay magkaroon na ng linaw ang usapan nyo. Kung anuman yung decision nyo. Bahala kayo. Basta Yaya, andito lang kami para sa inyo. Sabihin nyo lang. Hindi naman ako puedeng mangialam. Kasi buhay ni Alden yan. Alam mo yan. Matapang ako. Pero hindi ako puedeng mangialam kasi eh.” (I hope once we return, everything may be clarified in your discussion. Whatever your decision it. It’s your call. Just remember, nanny, we are just here for you. Just say so. I can’t intervene. Because it’s Alden’s life. You know that. I am usually brave. But I really can’t intervene.)

Lola Nidora and the rest of the entourage were praising Frankie’s generosity. But Alden and YayaDUB still hasn’t talked after all those minutes. It was YayaDUB though who broke the ice. “Ano ba tong nangyayari sa atin ngayon? Kasi hindi pa tayo, hindi ganun kasakit.” (What has happened to us now? We’re not yet a couple; it should not be that painful.) Alden easily understood that conundrum at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. “Naghahanda pa lang naman tayo papunta dun eh. Nagsisimula pa lang, sumusuko ka na.” (We are just preparing ourselves towards a relationship. It has just begun and you’re quitting.)

YayaDUB justified her decision. “Alden, para naman sa yo itong ginagawa ko eh. Sana naiintindihan mo.” (I am only doing this for you. I hope you understand.) Alden cannot accept YayaDUB’s logic. “Pakinggan mo ko ha? Paano ako lalaban kung wala akong pinaglalaban?” (Listen to me okay? How will I fight for love if what I am fighting for is gone?) Alden broke down at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode.

Alden knew that YayaDUB had dreams too. “Alam mo naiintindihan naman kita eh. Naiintindihan ko ang mga pangarap mo. Alam ko namang gusto mo ring bumalik sa pagaaral. Pero yun ba talaga ang dahilan? Yun ba talaga? Sabihin mo sa akin.” (You know that I understand you. I understand that you have dreams. I know that you wanted to study again. But is that really the reason? Is that really it? Tell me.) YayaDUB still can’t answer his questions at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. Alden hugged YayaDUB when he can’t elicit an answer from her.

Alden was persistent at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode.“Tumingin ka sa akin. Alam mo, nung sinabi mo nang hindi mo na ako mahal at may mahal kang iba, dun pa lang, nadurog na ako eh. Ngayon tumingin ka sa akin, please. Ngayon sabihin mo sa akin na wala na. Sabihin mo sa akin na tapos na. Titigil na ako. Susundin ko na ang gusto ng lola ko. Sabihin mo kung wala na.” (Look at me. When you told me that you don’t love me anymore and you love someone else, that alone crushed me. Now look at me, please. Now tell me that it’s gone. Tell me that it’s over. I will stop. I will obey my grandmother. Tell me that it’s gone.) YayaDUB hugged Alden instead. Both of them were teary-eyed.

Alden would still press YayaDUB for an answer. “Ngayon sabihin mo sa akin kung wala na ba kong dapat hintayin. Titigil na ako.” (Now tell me that I don’t have anything else to wait for. I will stop.) The grannies were just watching from the door. Donya Tidora’s mascara and eyeliner ran over. A stark contrast to Lola Nidora’s calm demeanor at the ALDUB Dont Give Up On Us episode. YayaDUB tried to speak. “Alden, wala na. Ayoko na. Ayoko na.” (Alden, it’s gone. I want none of it. I want none of it.)

Alden knelt down to beg YayaDUB. YayaDUB helped him stand up. She even tried to wipe the tears off his face. But she was steadfast in her decision. “Alden, salamat sa lahat ng sakripisyo mo. Maraming salamat. Hindi ko makakalimutan lahat yun. Sana maging masaya ka.” (Thank you for all of your sacrifice. Thank you very much. I will never forget all of it. I hope you will find happiness.) After hearing YayaDUB, Alden thanked YayaDUB and walked away.

YayaDUB was left distraught in her decision. Donya Tidora and Lola Nidora tried to comfort her. But it was Lola Nidora who was seen as trying to be strong. Alden then drove away in defeat. What kind of wedding are we expecting then? Cindy is clearly just after the alimony. Would this mean missing a bigger pot of gold in Frankie Arenolli?
